    Getting any of these was just money not players PLUS FA money. Alonso is a year younger and has not really declined.

    Yup. I was done with Chris "FreaKin'" Sale. I even though Grissom might end up the second base solution this team has not solved in over a decade. It's still not solved. I include myself among those raining down the wrath, although I try to stay level-headed as much as possible. I realize when you make moves to improve the team, some will end up being bad or begin looking bad. Vice versa, too- like the Crochet looking great last year, so nobody thought twice about Teel, Monty and others. (Now, they do.)

    Agreed, and they should want a lot for a power hitting catcher with 3 arbs left.

    They do, but many teams are not wanting Rule 5 guys due to their own roster crunches. Our Rule 5 would have to hold way more value than theirs to want him. Granted, some teams might like 2-3 of our Rule 5 guys more than their worst 3 guys on their pending 40 man roster. I think we need to look at prospects between 1 and 13 to get real value back.

    Many additions talked about aren't close to the adjusted Lindor numbers. Abrams, Goodman and Neto are arbs. Jeffers is a cheap rental. Adames is costly ($28M x 5) That's close to Lindor money, but his name has not been mentioned much. Marte is owed $12M, $20M, $22M & $22M. That's $76M/4 and an AAV of $19M.

    Goodman has 3 arbs left. He's cheap, and he's a real good hitter. They might take Eyanson, Witherspoon, Narvaez & Godbout

    Agreed, trading for FA paid players at or near the point of decline hurts the budget and the roster by giving up players to get them. I remember bringing this argument up when we traded for Kimbrel, but he was not that old, and the market for closers took off shortly after that trade and changed the dynamics or what top FA closers cost was.

    That's $40M AAV - $10M for the cash back, so $30M. JH says no.

    We have no way of knowing how they value Mayer, KC or Bello. The Story and Bello additions were to lessen the cash they'd have to send back to us. I doubt they do Mayer, Story & Bello (or KC) for Lindor + $20-30M, but they would save significant money and have some players.

    That's a great point, as we are down to two eligible far arms, now: Uberstine & Samaniego, neither of whom are SP'ers. That being said, I'm not counting on Early to return or Eyanson to pitch in the bigs, this season, so trading one of them or Witherspoon would only affect the future. The future is important, but we can add pitchers, this winter or next to replace who we trade.

    Suarez replaces Rivera. That's easy. Rivera goes to AAA and then maybe is called up for the pen? Uberstine and Samaniego are the only farm pitchers on the 40 and not on the IL. (That's a bit unnerving.) If and when Early returns or some other SP'er like Crochet, Oviedo, Crawford or Houck, my guess is Sandoval goes to the pen. This day off helps, but we already have more games to play than everyone else, so add one more. The staff will be taxed later this season. We need to add someone or pray we get some decent returns from our IL group of pitchers.

    I see we've all but signed 2 non draftees. Do they count towards the bonus pool? I assume we stayed under the penalty mark.

    The 8 could be this, but your point is well made. Eyanson, Arias, Witherspoon are all 1-2 years away. Mayer is ML level. That's 4 close to or at ML level. (Sogard and Romero are, but they wouldnt be part of the 8 I'd choose.) Azocar or Gonzales have value but may be 2-3 years away. Ziehl or Phillips are nice adds, but not what might land Witt. We'd probbbly need to add Valera or both Azocar and Gonzales (or Godbout.)

    Gray may be back, but he will be a FA, so we can't count on him, until he signs.

    Yes. I'd be adding a prospect like Mayer, of course. I was speaking to the money aspect of the deal.

    I think the lefty unbalanced nature of our staff may be overblown, but we do lose RHP Gray, this winter, so it makes sense. We're looking at a 5man LH'd rotation to start 2027.

    To me, Neto or Langeliers would be the top prizes. They would be very costly, in terms of the return, but they have control years beyond 2027. Abrams or Goodman would be very helpful for our current needs and would also be very costly. Francisco Alvarez might be too costly, too. Jeffers is a rental so would be cheaper. Lots of other more moderate or minor deals are being mentioned, and that is likely what Brez ends up doing, but maybe he goes bold this time.
