  1. This report said it was "walked back..." https://www.masslive.com/redsox/2026/03/alex-cora-red-sox-will-mix-and-match-with-marcelo-mayers-platoon-partner-at-second-base.html
  2. He kinda walked it back some and said it might be a "mix and match" type set-up. (I took that to mean, maybe not a strict platoon.)
  3. Anthony should lead the team in OBP, as he did last year (not counting Devers.) My guess is Contreras finishes 2nd in OBP, so batting him 3rd might work better than 4th, especially vs LHPs over Duran. To me: Anthony 1st or second is the #1 priority. Contreras, Duran and Abreu should bat 3rd, 4th or 5th. A RHB should take the other 1 or 2 slot, and that can be Durbin or Story.
  4. If you have two .350 OBP guys up 1 and 2, the 3rd batter should get up with a man or two on base, more often than not. Maybe I'm wrong, and because two get on base sometimes, the chances of zero on base is higher than 50%. Anyway, I used to think the 3 batter should be the best batter. Now, I think the #2, with #1 and 4 close to it. The #4 should have more power, and the #1 a better OPB. One key is that the 5 should be better than the #3, but it's close.
  5. So, Mayer might be on a platoon set-up with IKF. Maybe it's just a one time thing. Cora did flip Narvaez to 8th and Rafaela to 9th. (Good move, IMO.)
  6. Anthony should lead the team in OBP, as he did last year (not counting Devers.) 7. With Abreu being given the chance to play FT, Refsnyder gone and Romy on the IL, it looks like there will be less platoons and more defined roles among the everyday players. Catcher: Narvaez looks to start in 4 out of 5 games with Wong catching Bello. 1B: looks as steady as it has been in many years. (Moreland in 2018?) 2B: is still a bit unknown, as Mayer's health and production, especially vs LHPs is up in the air. 3B: Durbin looks like a lock, here. SS: It's all about Story's health. LF: Anthony is the FT'er with Duran giving him a spell, here and there. CF: Hopefully, Rafaela plays CF only. RF: Abreu has been given the chance to play FT. DH: Duran looks like the near FT DH. When an OF'er needs a break, he should slide into LF. Bench: Yoshida PH'er vs RHPs, Wong (Bello's binky), IKF the defensive utility infielder & Monasterio to keep Romy's seat warm.
  8. The 3 slot is not as important as we used to think. I would not put Anthony there. Roman should bat 1 or 2. Once he gets more power, maybe think about the 4 slot. I'd put Durbin- the contact hitter-up second. L Anthony R Durbin L Duran R Contreras L Abreu (flip Story & Abreu v LH'd SP'ers) R Story L Mayer R Narvaez R Rafaela (Yes, Rafaela 9th)
  9. Agreed. It looks like Early will play enough on the big club, this year, that his clock will start. We may gain one more year for Tolle, if he stays in AAA long enough. Of course, either could be extended, anytime. As of now, we have these guys under control until age... 32 Campbell (2034) & Crawford (2028) 31 Crochet (2031), Rafaela (2031) & Narvaez (2031) 30 Bello (2030) 29 Anthony (2034) & Abreu (2029) 28 Early (2030) & Tolle (2031)
  10. This is the K era. I don't love it, but it is what it is. I think we'll be fine on offense, better on defense and the pitching should be great.
  11. When Sandoval and or Crawford get healthy, a choice may need to be made on Watson (Rule 5) and Moran (out of options,) but maybe some other pitcher hitting the IL can prolong the choice. When Casas gets healthy and assuming he looks good enough to warrant a promotion, I can't see us carrying Yoshida & Casas as bench pieces. If and when Romy returns, I'd guess Monasterio is demoted.
  12. soxprospects.com projected farm rotations: Worcester: Tolle, Sandoval, Crawford, Uberstine, Sikkema Portland: Bennett, Mullins, Holobetz, Rivera, Wehunt/Ziehl Greenville: Valera, Witherspoon, Phillips, Eyanson, Neely/Finley Salem: Patton, Brown, Walker, Bouchard, Morgan/Foutch FCL: Bido, Chirino, Fisher, Frias, Gilman, Rasmussen, Reyes, Veraza, Wilson
  13. After three major graduations, plus Narvaez, MLB.com has these Sox ranked highly: 19. Tolle (18th on fangraphs) 31. Arias (14th on fangraphs) 56. Early (38th) 84 Witherspoon (96th)
  14. MLBTR breaks down the Sox Off Season: https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2026/03/offseason-in-review-boston-red-sox-18.html 71% of readers gave the Sox an A or B 22% gave them a C 7% an F or D
  15. We used 35 pitchers, last season, including Toro & Eaton. 31 pitchers got 4+ IP. 27 pitchers 11+ IP. 18 had 21+ IP. 13 had 41+ IP. After the top 13, we had a total of about 330 innings. Anybody that pitches well enough to get a look, will get a chance.
  16. I think BA had KC 4th to start the 2025 season. Anthony was BA's #1 prospect in Sept 2024 and stayed there for most of 2025. Mayer was #10 before the 2023 and 2024 seasons.
  17. Going against a lefty, I wonder if Cora makes any adjustments. This seemed to be his template during this spring: 1. Anthony LF 2. Story SS 3. Duran DH 4. Contreras 1B 5. Abreu RF 6. Durbin 3B 7. Mayer 2B 8. Rafaela CF 9. Narvaez C Does he bat Duran 3rd? (What RHB fits? I doubt it's Durbin 3rd and 3 straight RHBs.) Maybe Durbin 5th and Abreu 6th? I kinda like Rafaela 9th.
  18. Potential assets, and yes, the more the better. The higher ranked, the better, too. Of course, not all prospects or even top prospects work out, but every star was one a prospect.
