  1. How about giving us your opinion?
  2. So, if Mayer does not work out, of this "knee soreness" turns into something long term, what's the plan? Durbin at 2B and IKF/Monasterio at 3B Does Eaton get a chance? (All 3 are RHBs.) I doubt we move KC back to 2B.
  3. I'm not sure who is worse: Mayer or China Doll Casas.
  4. Actually, someone did say it was a major issue, and it sparked this commentary. I disagree that Narvaez is a bigger risk of failure. He had decent AAA numbers and looks pretty good on defense. There is a reason he is viewed as the starter.
  5. Certainly, Narvaez is no sure bet .725 to .750 batter. One season proves nothing. Wong has had several pretty bad hitting stretches, and his one stretch of good numbers was not supported by underlying metrics. Some called 2024 "lucky." .663 2022-2023 (459 PAs) .758 2024 (487) .500 2025 (188) It's a larger sample size than Narvaez. Wong is a career .680 batter, which is not bad for a back-up catcher with good results working with most of our pitchers. I don't think it's a major issue, and I'm not sure Thaiss or Delay offer any better hopes on offense or defense.
  6. While career MiLB numbers do show Narvaez was "far worse," he had some pretty decent numbers and was much closer with the AAA numbers. AAA: .247/.371/.400/.772 Narvaez (21 HRs in 627 PAs) .278/.329/.477/.806 Wong (24 HRs in 577 PAs) Narvaez had a much higher OBP, which is widely viewed as more important than SLG. One could argue they were pretty close to even in AAA numbers.
  7. Again, I'm fine with replacing Wong, especially with someone who has a good defensive profile. Oh, and by the way, Wong got very nice results from more than just Bello. His top 5 pitchers by PAs: .643 Bello (575 PAs) w Narvaez .790 .597 Crochet (126) w Narvaez .620 .581 Whitlock (101) w Narvaez .528 .715 Buehler (95) w Narvaez .845 .509 Weissert (92) w Narvaez .729 The year before our pitchers did better with Wong, too. I'm not arguing for keeping him, and I don't see the lovefest you speak of, but he does have some good qulaities.
  8. Yup. We've traded for more than we signed, as I'd add Sale. In system? Betts and _____?
  9. Bello looked very sharp, today. I'm psyched about this rotation!
  10. I said "one good season." Wacha started 23 games in '22 and missed time when we needed him most. Rich Hill started 26 games with a 4.27 ERA. Nate had one of 5 seasons with over 20 starts. It was a damn good one, but these three don't really change the narrative.
  11. 2024-2025 SP'er fWAR leaders (300+ IP) 4. Crochet 10.4 11. Suarez 7.5 12. Gray 7.4 36. Bello 4.0 (only 30 pitchers had more IP and a higher FWAR)
  12. Indeed. How many "elite" players have the Sox signed, this century? I count two: Manny & Price.
  13. I'm happy about how both handle our staff, but the Wong offense has been putrid, of late. I think Thaiss is known for defense, and I guess I'd be okay with him taking Wong's slot on the 26. We could stash Wong in AAA.
  14. I'd add Whitlock as the leagues highest fWAR #2 RP'er. I really like Slaten, too. Our SP'er depth looks very nice, as well.
  15. It was shocking how much we focused on SP'ers. Even Oviedo might become a surprise.
  16. .799 at AAA is not the end of the world, but certainly he didn't move himself any closer to getting another look. I'm not sure I'd use the word "wasted," but it wasn't a good year. He sucks on defense, so it makes sense to try and find out where he sucks the least. He may be a DH.
  17. He did play in a 140 games and get 580 PAs between MLB & AAA, last year. (Plus 6s PAs in the PRWL.)
  18. He certainly has a ways to go to even be considered for another MLB look-see. Maybe that gamble is a loss. It's $60M- about the same as Buehler+ Sandoval+Kluber+Richards gambles.
  19. Having depth is not a problem, and if we had a gaping hole somewhere else, one could argue there is a problem, but I don't see one anymore. I wish we'd have gotten a better infielder than Durbin, but he's pretty good. I wish we got a bigger bat than Contreras, but he is pretty good, too. We did better than I ever expected on improving the rotation, so hopefully that makes up for the possible shortcomings I mentioned. I think our roster looks pretty solid. We have no major weak areas. We might have the best rotation in MLB along with a top five 1-2 or 1-2-3 RP'er punch. We balanced the left-righty issue a little bit, despite losing Refsnyder. I think our overall infield defense will be better. The OF defense is A #1.
  20. Where is all this Wong love you speak of? Okay, Kimmi has said she likes him as the back-up catcher and others have said he's prtty good on defense and knows our staff, but I'm not seeing any "love."
  21. What do you think Bello would get as a FA? Have you seen what some pitchers with way worse records than Bello have gotten, recently? He's owed $50M/4 or $70M/5: 26:$6M, 27:$8.5M, 28:$16M, 29:$19M, 30:$21M club option ($1M buyout) I know the arb equation is vastly different than the FA equation, but many GMs would love to have Bello at this cost. Yes, some of the low budget teams would not want him at this cost but would take him for a couple arb years, then maybe trade him, assuming he gets to expensive.
