  1. By your chosen metric, maybe not. I use OPS and he declined, and as I clearly pointed out, his two, good half seasons saved his ass. OPS+ 127 ('22-'23) to 122 ('23-'24) is a decline, right? wRC+ 131 ('22-'23) to 121 ("24-'25) is not decline? Okay, he happened to have a worse 2 years from '20-'21 (116) although 2020 was less than half a season and only 91 games in 2021. That's your proof he didn't decline? It was 132 games combined and he had an injury. The guy had a couple great seasons and the two before those were better than any 2 afterwards. He declined. I pointed out he had an uptick after '20-'21, but then declined by a lesser amount after that. Both OPS+ and wRC+ show that to be a fact. Of course, you will never admit you were wrong, so let's just agree to disagree.
  2. I'm hoping for the best, but coming down to this is not a good sign. I remember soxprospects.com had Bennett projected in AA back in December. We traded away some extended rotation depth to try and add more quality. While the Perales for Bennett trade was sort of sideways, many felt it was due to Perales needing to be on the 40 and Bennet not, yet here we are. This might have been the all healthy rotation depth chart, this year: 1 Crochet IL 2 Suarez 3 Gray IL 4 Houck IL (known to be out for the season) 5/6 Bello & Oviedo IL 60 Days 7/8 Crawford IL & Sandoval IL 9/10 Early IL & Tolle IL 11 Uberstine IL 12/13... Bennett, Rivera, Anderson _____________________________ SP'ers traded/let loose last winter/summer: Giolito, Buehler, DMay, Newcomb, Fulmer & Priester Dobbins, Fitts, Harrison, Criswell Sandlin & Winckowski Not MLB depth: Clarke, Travieso, Fajardo & Aita
  3. I most certainly read you post, and there was most certainly a big decline after 2019- expected or not. There was a lesser decline after 2023, and again, not unexpected but for real.
  4. More supporting evidence on why Duran should lead off.
  5. Indeed, same with all sports we really enjoy watching.
  6. I specifically gave the numbers. He clearly declined from 2018-2019>> and then again from 2022-2023>> I'm not saying he's the only guy to ever decline after age 25, but he has declined and is now at the age where nearly everyone declines- some drastically. Not sure what Betts has to do with it. I wouldn't pay Betts this money either, at this point in his career.
  7. True. Wasn't watching baseball as a kid and teen funner for all of us?
  8. Correct, but the bottom line is the first to final offers to Bregman were both massive overpays for a guy who had shown decline over several seasons. If it wasn't for two half-seasons for doing well (first half 2025 and second half 2024) his overall trend line would have been plain for all to see. After a tremendous 2018-2019 stretch of 157 OPS+ batting and near GG defense, he drop off pretty steadily and dramatically, except for an uptick in '22-'23. (He has a 144 OPS over his first 4 seasons.) 114 OPS+ '20-'21 127 from '22-'23 (still closer to 114 than 157 or 111) 122 from '24-'25 at ages 30 & 31. Most players drop off after 30-31, so a continuing downward trend should have been expected. Granted, he helped in the clubhouse and played plus defense, but he wasn't worth even the "insulting first offer."
  9. I totally agree, but unless the overall budget was allowed to go higher, if you spend more on Schwarber and or Swanson, you choose to leave other slots neglected.
  10. Good point, and $3M is much less than we spent on guys like Sandoval, Buehler, Hendriks, Paxton, Kluber, Richards...
  11. Assuming he was healthy, I thought he might be our 4 or 5, yes. Thought Crawford might do something, too.
  12. True, *you forgot Narvaez .726>.617 but also... 2025>2026 Durbin .721>.524 IKF .625>.499 Monasterio .755>.678
  13. We also traded Harrison and got rid of Criswell, who started a game last year and 18 in 2024. Also gone are Giolito, Buehler, May & Newcomb who started 58 games last year.
  14. Rotation: 1. Crochet IL 3. Gray IL 5. Oviedo 60 Day IL 6. Crawford IL (June?) 7. Sandoval IL (May/June?) Add to this #2 Bello sucking.
  15. The 2020 team opened the season with a rotation of Eovaldi, Perez, Weber, Springs & Hall. Our closer was Workman, who was traded at the deadline for Pivetta and promptly messed the bed. (Barnes, Brasier, Walden, Hembree, Brice & Brewer filled the rest of the pen.) OKay, ERod was out all year. Perez led the tean in IP, Ryan Weber 3rd, Phillips valdez 4th, Mazza 5th, Godley 6th, Brewer 7th, Brasier 8th, Barnes 9th, Springs 10th, Brice 11th, Osich, Kickham & Covey not far behind. We started Jose Peraza at 2B w Beni, JBJ and Verdugo as our OF. Yes, Devers, Bogey & JD were still around. Vaz had a .689 career OPS going into 2020. Chavis finished 7th in PAs, Pillar 8th despite being traded. The bench was Dalbec, Plawecki, Arauz & Lin.
  16. I'm as frustrated as everyone else, and I'm not telling people they cant be frustrated, but when I blame the GM for not adding someone I liked better and they are sucking, too, it kinda rings hollow.
  17. I don't disagree, but we went decades having great bats, but we won our first and following rings when... we added Schilling to Pedro (Lowe/Wake/Arroyo/Foulke) we added Beckett, DiceK & Papelbon to Schilling we added Lackey, Dempster & Uehara to Lester we added Sale, Price & Kimbrel (Nate mid season) to ERod & Porcello
  18. These were the pitchers on the Sox to end the 2023 season, before Breslow was hired: Sale, Houck, Pivetta, Crawford, Bello (Paxton IL) Jansen, Martin (IL) Whitlock, Schreiber, Winckowski, Benardino, Murphy, Joely R (IL) N Robertson, Llovera AAA: Drohan, Walter, Barraclough, Van Belle, Gambrell, Rio Gomez/ Ort, Mata, Booser, Weiss, Jacques, Garza, Gillaspie, Politi, L Guerrero, R Fernandez, Hagenman, Mosqueda, German, Shugart, Santo (IL) AA notables: Wikelman, Dobbins, Bastardo, Hoppe, Troye A+: Penrod, Monegro, Perales, Rogers, Song, Sena A-: ERod, Mullins, Early, Paez Pitching Prospects Rankings: 7 Perales, 9 Wikelman, 15 Drohan, 20 Monegro, 23 Dobbins, 24 ERC, 25 Guerrero, 26 Bastardo, 27 Mata, 28 Hoppe
