  1. Well, they did choose to spend way more on pitching than a big bat, and we still have an OF/DH logjam that has nothing to do with the budget.
  2. I'm not sold either. Initially, I liked the idea, but once we got Contreras, others seemed like much better fits. I like Durbin, but we needed more.
  3. Agreed. Ideally, Durbin would be "that guy," but he has started slowly, and I know how much tiny sample sizes matter to you. 🤣
  4. Weissert pitched pretty well, last season. He's off to a bad start, but he may end up being a needed plus in our pen, this season. That was a horrible pitch, especially when 0-2 on a high K guy.
  5. We could have had Durbin (3B) & Suarez (1B/DH) or Suarez (3B) and Durbin/Mayer (2B). Better yet, KMarte, Neto or Paredes.
  6. We had chances to score more. I hope this doesn't become a pattern.
  7. Saying someone had a good game is not being "giddy" or projecting they will keep having good games. The fact that you think my giddiness leads to future outcomes says more about your "curse" than mine.
  8. I'm 67. I miss the "good ole days," too, but this is the way of the game, now. Within this context, I was actually surprised Early came out for the 6th, and when he let up the line drive single, I thought the hook was coming then & there. If Weissert gets the out, nothing would have been mentioned.
  9. Other than Weissert, our pen has a 0.00 ERA 10.1 IP O ER (1 unearned run) 4 Hits 7 BB 11 Ks
  10. After one series, and a tiny sample size, here are the Sox OPS numbers: 1.539 Abreu Our catchers are 5 for 10, combined .889 Mayer .746 Anthony .629 Duran .600 Rafaela .540 Willson .438 Story 0.77 Durbin Our SP ERAs: 0.00 Crochet 1.69 Early 6.75 Gray
  11. Nobody- not you or I know that answer to this. He was at 96 pitches, and has let up a line shot single. One could argue, he shouldn't have come out for the 6th. (BTW, someone actually did reach base on him in the 6th, so you answered your own question.) He came up to the bigs in SEPT 2025 and never went over 90 pitches. That was 4 regular season starts plus 1 playoff start. Now, in March, in his first start of the season he pitches more than ever before, and you want to say he was babied? It's the age old question and criticism. Should the starter been left in longer or yanked earlier. Anyone who thinks they know the answer is kidding themselves.
  12. Greenville & Salem open the season April 2nd and Portland April 3rd.
  13. WOO lost 10-8 as Tolle got shelled (5 hits, 2BB and 4 ER in 4IP. 2 unearned runs didn't help.) Still, the Sox had the lead 7-6 going into the 8th. Gasper 3-4 w 2B Ward 2-4 w BB Romero 1-3 w 2B Lloyd 1-2 w 3 BB
  14. Not going long into games on a pitchers first start of the season has been around for over 55 years.
  15. I could have stomached Suarez at 3B for a season, but yes, 1B or DH would have been a better placement. I'd much rather have gotten KMarte, Neto or Paredes than Suarez.
  16. We intentionally put ourselves into this bind. While I'm fine with the Durbin trade and the Mayer as a starter (platoon) choice, I'd much rather have gotten Neto or KMarte or even Paredes by forking over one of the OF'er. We'd have Yoshida at DH, Neto/KMarte/Paredes over Mayer or Durbin (Hell, those two could platoon) and be minus Duran, Abreu or Ceddanne.
  17. Maybe the idea is to not give Anthony (m)any days off but to rest him as the DH for 20-30 games.
  18. I'm not sure why you distrust Durbin. He has a decent rookie year and is a plus on defense. .721 OPS in 2025 beats Rafaela's .708, and Rafaela is not a great defensive 2Bman. All this to get Yoshida some ABs?
  19. That's a hard way to lose a game and a series. Suarez $15M/1 was too expensive for the Sox and "K's too much," people said.
  20. One of your biggest flip-flops ever, and there have been so many.
  21. I think you might be giving too much credit to other teams. When you look at numbers like fWAR and FIP, Gray is a top 30 or 60 pitcher, going back one year, 2 years or 3 years. ERA- Gray was 77th in 2025 among all SP'ers with 100+ IP. That's like a #3, but when you go back 2 years, he's #63. Go back 3 years and he's #28, which can show he's been a #1. This is his "bad stat," and it still shows he's been a #2 over the past 3 years, but moving towards or into the #3 range as he ages. FIP, he's #10 since 2023! He's #13 since 2024. He was #21 in 2025. All these support the idea that he's a #1, but I won't agree with that. By fWAR, he was the #21 in 2025. How many teams have 2 guys above that?
  22. Yoshida in LF, today! Geeesh! (I take no joy in saying he'd play some OF, this year.) Anthony at DH with Rafaela on the bench. Wong is catching Early.
