  1. Assuming we will be straddling the line or going over, this year, yes, mostly.
  2. Yes, overpaid while having a very good year that looks like it might have been an outlier. He's not getting younger and has already seen his defense slip.
  3. Yes, we save $2.2M on the Lux tax, but $3.8M in actual dollars. His contract is $6.6M, so KC is paying $3.8M. The $5M is the lux tax cost, which doesn't affect KC.
  4. I still don't see a JBJ signing, here. Too much money. Too many years.
  5. Thanks for the long list. Some of these names might work out. The higher priced ones would need some cash included or a prospect thrown in to sweeten the deal. I'm thinking Bloom would be looking for long term solutions on the younger side.
  6. In theory, there was no reason the 2019 team should have sucked so badly. The window DD built should have been from 2016 to 2019 or even 2020, even with a reset in there somewhere.
  7. What about all this happening and Codero out-hitting Beni's 2018?
  8. Who are some rather low cost CF'er or 2Bmen available via trade, at this point? Someone that won't take a decent prospect to acquire and will not bite into the budget too much? We could maybe afford another Ottavino type deal, but maybe not that much cash. I'm thinking Adam Frasier (2B-Pitt) is one name that has been floated. I'm thinking with no more moves made, these players will see the most time at these positions (2nd most): C: Vaz (Plawecki) 1B: Dalbec (Chavis) 2B: Hernandez (Arroyo) 3B: Devers (Arroyo) SS: Bogaerts (Arroyo) LF: Renfroe (JD in NL parks-Cordero) CF: Cordero (EHern-Verdugo) RF: Verdugo (Renfroe) DH: JD (Chavis)
  9. Well, in a sense, some may view us at a point where we're at the tail end stage of trading everyone away, if you count letting FS go. Here are the PA & IP leaders of the 2018 team: PA 661 Beni 649 JD 614 Betts 580 Bogey 535 JBJ 502 Nunez 490 Devers 459 Moreland 367 Holt 288 Leon 269 Vaz 207 Swihart 195 HRam 165 Pearce 143 Kinsler 73 Lin, 38 Travis, 27 Philips, 13 Pedey IP 191 Porcello 176 Price 158 Sale (will not be on opening day roster) 130 ERod 99 Johnson 85 Velazquez 74 Pomeranz 66 Kelly 62 Kimbrel 62 Barnes (last year of control) 60 Hembree 54 Eovaldi 54 Wright 41 Workman 34 Brasier 24 Thornburg 22 Poyner, 17 Cuevas, 15 Walden, 14 C Smith
  10. I never bought into that kind of thinking. Had Bloom liked Beni and/or not been looking beyond 2022, Beni would still be here.
  11. Had the Royals sent Duffy to the Mets, it would all have come out pretty even, assuming the Sox get some value from the 3 PTBNLs. Had we gone by BTV, we'd have just trade Beni for Lee and 2 PTBNLs and got a big plus rating.
  12. 100%. Vaz might be next on the list after all the one year players have been shopped. Bogey is the tough call.
  13. Isn't that assuming Marisnick steals no bases and not counting Hamilton's caught stealings?
  14. Agreed. Sale stays- as does Devers. If I had to project the next big name to be dealt away, I'd say Vaz.
  15. Marisnick was the guy I thought fit within our budget. I didn't expect him to play FT, and I'm pulling for EHern to get more time in CF than 2B, but the Marisnick ship has sailed. I'd be okay with not signing Pillar. Maybe trade for Adam Frasier.
  16. I never said he was a good hitter, but 178 points on OPS is a substantial differential... certainly enough to make up for a few extra SBs by Hamilton.
  17. Maybe just start with the players with just 1-2 years of team control, whci could include Bogey due to his opt out. I do not see our rebuild being a 3-5 year plan. I'm looking at 2022 as being fairly competitive and 2023 as trying to be a top contender.
  18. I know this feeling is not just about Beni, but to me, of all the players we have lost, Beni is one of the least of my worries.
  19. No love for Winckowski? The guy has a +0.3 value on BTV!
  20. Exactly! That was my point. All along, I've been thinking our bottom roster guys were not even at replacement level value or maybe just barely at it. The Jays must be worse!
  21. Marisnick did not cheat from 2019-2010 (.726 OPS). Hamilton from 2019-2020? .548. That's the same difference between a .700 OPS and an .878 OPS! Hamilton was at .629 his previous 5 seasons- never getting above .664. I'll take a much better bat over a few more SBs from a guy who never gets on base (.278 OBP since 2019).
  22. I've suggested dozens of trades involving Beni on the BTV site- several were 3 team deals that had one competitive team give prospects to the third team, while we give Beini to the playoff bound team and get some ML player from the other team- usually a CF'er, 2Bman or pitcher. It seemed weird that Beni went to the Royals, and the playoff bound team, the Mets traded and received only prospects. Also, am I in the minority for thinking Cordero was acquired to play CF? (His brief time there produced some pretty bad defensive metrics, but he seems to have the tools (speed) to be better there than having Renfroe in RF and Verdugo in CF. Did we get him to just replace Beni in a LF platoon with Renfroe? I'm thinking Renfroe's numbers vs RHPs (.717) may not be all that bad and could improve in Fenway and in his prime years.
  23. The word "contend" is a bit relative. I'm not sure anybody thought Beni was going to lead us to the wild card slot, but of course it is about more than just Beni. I do still think we may make a serious push for the wild card, so does that mean we are "competitive" during the rebuild?
  24. Agrred. I just mentioned his name, because we can now afford him, and CF is a position of need.
  25. All the best dominoes are falling fast!
