  1. I'm on record for wanting to pay Betts large and long. I still am. If someone goes absurdly high, then fine, but I'd go all out. He's that good!
  2. Yes, I hesitated to include Epstein's regime, but by the end of it, we'd lost the magic of finding and developing pitchers. Plus, Pedro and Schilling were from out of the system. Point well taken, though.
  3. It's been super frustrating. 4+ GMs and not one of them could get the right people in the right places.
  4. We have one of the weakest bottom of the 40 man roster I've seen in recent Sox history. I wouldn't even blink if we had to DFA anyone of these players, but if we can trade one or two for something useful or for a promising player not needing to be on the 40 man roster, then go for it. (Not in any particular order) Phillips Valdez Matt Hall Jeffrey Springs Austin Brice Chris Mazza Kyle Hart Yoan Aybar Mike Shawaryn Josh Osich (Or return Jose Arauz) Trading Lin, Hembree, Brasier or Brewer would not bother me, either. Selling "high" on Walden & Chavis might work, too.
  5. Any data to support "consistency in the line-up?" I get the whole "the line-up makes little difference" position, but if putting your best hitter second is shown to help a little, I can't see why figuring their splits into the equation wouldn't matter, also, especially with the massive split differentials between Devers and JD. I've never seen any studies done on players in a consistent batting slot vs being moved around. Most players have been moved around their whole baseball lives- just less and less as they advance to the majors. Even once in the majors, all but the very best players get jacked all over the place, and even many of the best of the best move between 2-3 slots over a season. Prove me wrong.
  6. Well, some guys and some organizations have a much better track record with young pitchers. You'd think it has something to do with the people in the organization, but maybe it's all just a crap shoot, and we keep getting crap shot at us.
  7. We lose 60-70% of the games is my guess.
  8. I disagree. If batting your best player 2nd matters, and you seem to imply it does, then why wouldn't these numbers matter, even if just a little? Career OPS vs RHP .871 Devers (.996 in 2019) .861 JD M (.793 in 2019) Career OPS vs LHP .995 JD M (1.381 in 2019) .750 Devers (.744 in 2019) The 2019 differentials are huge! The differential vs LHPs is monumental. Numbers when a righty or lefty starts: Career: Devers: .871/.737 JDM: .873/.948 2019: Devers: 1.004/.728 JD M .853/1.116 I understand those who feel players get "comfortable" batting in just one slot, but I've never agreed with that.
  9. Why hasn't the organization gone out and outbid for the best pitching scouting and developing people in the business? It can't cost more than a low or mid level FA.
  10. We have a solid base to work with going forward. Spend wisely, draft well, sign well. See you in '21.
  11. We won't have to tank to suck.
  12. They both have some pretty wide splits.
  13. Maybe Devers 2nd vs RHPs and JD 2nd vs RHPs (flip them)? I might try Bogey 2nd, but 4th or 5th is fine, too. Verdugo 3rd sounds just about right. 1. Beni 2. Devers/JD 3. Verdugo 4. JD/Devers 5. Bogey 6. Moreland 7. Chavis/Peraza 8. Vazquez 9. JBJ/Pillar
  14. Washington Redskins owner agrees to change name. https://www.huffpost.com/entry/washington-redskins-nfl-change-racist-name_n_5eff6a62c5b6acab28500fd6
  15. I wasn't really thinking about "tanking." My top draft pick idea came to me after looking at our projected rotation.
  16. Well, with our record in recent drafts, throwing a dart may help us.
  17. Maybe we can get the number one draft pick, next year.
  18. I don't think he will either, but I do think there's a better chance with Betts. (I also think we did have a chance with Lester had we outbid the Cubs.)
  19. I don't think Betts will come back, but it would be a shocking boost to this team.
  20. Hard to disagree, but I'll put a spin on it. We've never let a top FA go, then re-sign him right away, so wouldn't that be a "break from the past?" (I know; I'm reaching.)
  21. Me, too. Let's sign him, this winter, and with this messed up season, we'll hardly even know he was gone. Plus, we'll have 2 young players, too.
  22. I'm not sure they'd think it's enough. Also, there is no one voice or opinion by a large group of people. Probably some have no problem, and maybe even some like the names and logos. IMO, which certainly is not meant to speak for Native Americans, if Washington changed their name to the Americans but kept what I think is a cool logo, they might be okay with that. I'm not sure just taking the Guardians logo away would be enough. Braves & Chiefs? I don't know. BTW, on a side note, I read somewhere the land around Mt Rushmore is apparently Native American by a treaty that has never been revoked or nullified, yet some where arrested for blocking the roads (apparently on their own land) before T Rump's speech there.
  23. I can understand their positions, and whn you look at the Indian's logo, I'd be offended, too. The Redskins logo has always looked distinguished, to me, but yeah, the name is a clear no-no. Chiefs and Braves seem kind of neutral, but I can see how their names are being used to instill thoughts of brave warriors in battle, and that's a stereotype they feel has been overused for long enough. My guess is, with all that is going on now, these names will be changed within a year or two. Hell, the Lincoln Memorial may be next, after all, he did sign off on the biggest gov't sanctioned lynching of Native Americans in US history. https://www.history.com/this-day-in-history/300-santee-sioux-sentenced-to-hang-in-minnesota
  24. Rockers would work great. Think of the mascots, logos, and more!
