    Yes! This could be a major blow to our rebuilding plan. Let’s hope any penalties do not involve draft or bonus pool penalties.

    ERod could keep getting better. We basically had no Sale last year and still finished over .500. No Porcello & Price may hurt, but it’s not like we won a lot when they pitched last year. I’m expecting close to .500, but with a short season, anything can happen. There is a reason baseball plays 162 not 82, and we may see why this year.

    I doubt a new stadium helps much. They should move to Sacremento.

    It's the breaking balls that are harder to call. As the ball leaves the site of the umps due to the catcher being in the way, he has to guess if the breaking ball caught a sliver of the strike zone or not.

    If your assumption is the K zone is not completely accurate, of course it will help some look better by making a bad call look correct- maybe as often or more so than vice versa. It's time for robo balls and strikes. It will bring consistency to that aspect of the game, and both hitters and pitchers will learn what is a ball and what is a strike and never have to react by guessing what the ump might call or who the ump is, today.

    The Red Sox announced Monday that they’ve acquired minor league catcher Jhonny Pereda from the Cubs as the player to be named later in the January trade that sent righty Travis Lakins from Boston to Chicago. Lakins, oddly enough, is no longer even in the Cubs organization; he was claimed off waivers by the Orioles just 10 days after the Cubs acquired him. Pereda is not on the 40-man roster, so a corresponding move isn’t necessary for the Sox. Pereda, 24 next month, had a rough year in Double-A this past season, slashing .241/.336/.305 with just two home runs and 16 doubles in 398 plate appearances. Pereda caught a third of the runners who attempted to steal against him and won a minor league Gold Glove Award, but he also turned in poor framing metrics... -MLBTR
