I'm sure many pitchers could say some what ifs like Pivetta can, but had Cora pulled him after 5 innings in game 2 and 4, his numbers would be: IP H ER BB 5.0 2 0 4 5.0 5 1 2 3.2 4 2 4 5.0 0 0 1 Total 18.2 IP 11 hits 3 ERs 11 BB The BB rate is still really bad, but 11 hits in 18.2 is better than decent, and his ERA might have been 1.45.

Same as his second start. He let up a 3 run HR after going 5.1 IP allowing 1 ER. (He ended up with 6 IP and 4 ER.)

At this moment, I do think sending Taylor packing is more important than finding someone else to lead off or take the rotation slot held by Richards. I also think Renfroe should just face lefties. The way Arroyo, Marwin and Cordero are playing, there's no reason for him to start ve a righty. I don't drink beer at the ballpark, and part of the reason is just what you pointed out- it has melted candle wax finish.

Yes, his last 5 starts were not long, except 1: IP ER 2.0 1 0.2 6 3.2 0 7.0 3 4.1 1 but only one was bad. Remember, this guy has barely pitched since 2015, and didn't start pitching in 2020 until late July. He's kind of a hard guy to figure out what he can do and for how long. He was a very fine pitcher from 2014-2017, although he did not pitch much in '16 & '17 (3.06 ERA, 123 ERA+, 1.15 WHIP, 3.25 FIP) We paid him $10M on the hopes he can return to that form. I think he's going to get a chance to show he can. It may not be 8 straight starts out of the gate, but unless he gets hurt, he's getting a longer look than 4 starts.
