  1. I think MLB changed the rules, so if we traded for Yordan, the tax hit would be $26M, since he'll be owed $52M/2 after 2026. That's still a good deal, but unless JH spends more in 2027 and beyond, trading for Yordan would mean not adding another key piece or two. I'm not against trading for Yordan, but the return will be high and the budget hit is not $19M as his whole contract AAV is. Getting Yordan and Paredes would be very nice. Paredes has a club option for 2027 at $13.3M. This would not be a trade for the long term. It would strengthen a 1-2 year window and possibly weaken the long term one. If we could extend one or both, that dynamic changes, as does the budget numbers. HOU will not want Yoshida or Story, but we could "help" the budget hit by including (forcing upon HOU) KC and or Bello, and of course other high value players/prospects would be needed. BTV accepets: Arias, Witherspoon, Phillips & Bennett for Alvarez, Paredes & Janek (nice catching prospect) I seriously doubt HOU accepts this. Sub Tolle or Early for Phillips and maybe still a no.
  2. Mayer is hitting just .616, so it's not like he's earned anything. Now, when you look at Durbin & IKF, he looks like Ted Williams, but still. Last 14 days: .704 Yoshida (.369 last week) .690 Monasterio (2-3 in last week) .652 Story (.816 last week) .451 Mayer (.269 last week) .371 Durbin (.192 last week) 0-4 IKF (n/a) No choice looks very good. Thanks Brez!
  3. I'm not so sure there is a wide variety of viewpoints between managers and maybe most managers would have trotted out very similar line-up cards night after night. To me, the main "quirks" Cora had was an overly obsessive need for the L-R-L line-up formation and his unyielding loyalty to veteran players keeping their slot in the line-up and position on the field, despite prolonged slumps or clear drops in defensive skills. He apparently never even talked to Devers about just the idea of grabbing a 1Bman's mitt and working out there some over a winter or in ST'ing. Now, to be fair, he might have not seen a need to move him, but if that's the case, then I'd have a bigger issue with his thoughts and non actions.
  4. The change of manager did offer a chance to think maybe a few things might change, even if slight or near inconsequential. I guess if Mayer is to get a day off, it makes sense vs a LHP, and yes, his usage has increased. Although Mayer's offense has not been good, it's bee a hell of a lot better than Story, Durbin and IKF. (I mentioned Story, despite Mayer not really being the back -up SS.) Monasterio does have a higher 2026 OPS than Mayer, and his career splits favor LHPs, so it makes sense. I was kinda surprised seeing him up 2nd, but when you look at the other choices, it's not as major as it seems.
  5. I don't think so. Who was added to the 26 that necessitates a demotion?
  6. Sox top prospects by ETAs (from soxprospects.com) Now: 1.Tolle 2026: 6. Bennett 2027: 2. Arias & 3. Eyanson (early) 4. Witherspoon & 11. Holobetz (late) 2028: 5 Phillips, 7 Gonzales, 10. Godbout. 12. Azocar 2029: 8. Valera, 9. Soto ___________________________ Others... 2026: 14 Uberstine, 17 Samaniego, 19 Bastardo, 21 Rivera 2027: 13 Romero, 18 Wehunt, 22 Mullins, 23 Paez & 24 Castro 2028: 20 Cespedes & 27 Monegro 2029: 15 Ramos, 17 Rivas & 25 Delzine 2030 Silverio & Brito
  7. Brannon has 6 HRs in just 14 games!
  8. Monasterio at DH, tonight AND batting second! 1. Duran LF 2. Monasterio DH 3. Abreu RF 4. Contreras 1B 5. Rafaela CF 6. Story SS 7. Narvaez C 8. Durbin 3B 9. IKF 2B Again, no Mayer vs the lefty. Cora would never put so many RHBs back to back, so maybe more changes are possible/coming.
  9. No, they won't demand Durbin, but Correa is out for the year, and losing Paredes leaves a hole. (He's a throw in. Sub Romero, if you prefer.)
  10. If HOU is looking for a quick rebuild, they may want more immediate value, but that looks like a formidable starting offer. Pena will be a FA, soon, so maybe they'd want Mayer or Arias. I know they really like Abreu, but I think he only adds one more year of control to what Yordan has, so maybe that's not a big demand. I'm sure they'd start with Anthony and Tolle/Early and Mayer/Arias, but I think they'd take less. I'm thinking more about Paredes and what they may take, now vs their winter demands... Durbin, Witherspoon and Bennett?
  11. Monasterio at DH, tonight AND batting second! 1. Duran LF 2. Monasterio DH 3. Abreu RF 4. Contreras 1B 5. Rafaela CF 6. Story SS 7. Narvaez C 8. Durbin 3B 9. IKF 2B Again, no Mayer vs the lefty. Cora would never put so many RHBs back to back, so maybe more changes are possible/coming.
  12. I get your point, but I'm not sure anyone made more winter trades than Brez, so somebody was answering phones.
  13. I was actually thinking the same thing the other day. Yordan is the closest thing to Papi as anybody else. I'd love to get him. The cost will be high, but HOU might be okay with mostly prospects. (I think they'd demand Abreu and Arias- maybe Tolle or Early, too.
  14. MLB.com's new top 100 prospects list... 11. Arias 72 Eyanson 88 Witherspoon 98 Gonzales
  15. Yordan is the guy most talked about, but the feeling seems to be more about building around him, which would mean the expectation is a short rebuild or a Yordan extension. HOU really likes Abreu, so he'd likely be the first guy they ask for. Paredes is the most likely guy we get, especially if it happens, this year. IMO, I think we are not going to be buyers, this summer, and talk of trades now is a long shot. Now, Devers was traded way before the deadline, but those deal types are unique.
  16. Agreed. I even mentioned he might end up on the IL a week or so before he did.
  17. Word is he will stop tipping pitches, after tonight's game. 🤪
  18. Yup, and Bello's recent two games is a little encouraging. Bennett looked okay, which helps, since Oviedo, Crawford and Sandoval are all pretty much crossed off my 2026 help list. Getting back a healthy and strong Crochet could give a big boost and also help the pen out (no more pen games.)
