  1. Sadly, the plan is almost certainly going to be Story back to SS, at least for the rest of this season. Changing managers doesn't look like it's changed that philosophy.
  2. This is why I find the Brez bashing as ringing hollow, since our ideas of signings and additions have done worse than his big 3 moves (Contreras, Suarez & Gray.) I do not think E Suarez was a top 5 discussed addition. I mentioned him a lot, but not many others, except to say "No." 1. Bregman & Alonso 3. Schwarber 4. Marte & Paredes 6. T Shaw or Hoerner? Since Gray was added so early, the talk of pitchers like Joe Ryan, Lodolo, Alcantara and others went largely silent.
  3. I do think changing positions can be a distraction, but if he is clearly the best defensive SS on the team, which I'm not certain he is, then it does make sense. Arias is likely 1.5 to 2 years away.
  4. Well said. I really enjoy watching good defense and pitching, but this team's offense and mental mistakes make it hard to enjoy as much as I could be. I'm sure the pitching will go through some tough stretches, and expecting this offense to pick up the slack appears to be fantasy.
  5. I remember Merloni raving about how Crawford was a really good pitcher and could bust out, this year.
  6. Last year, we were 23-25 on May 18th, ironically right after playing the Braves. This year, we have one more loss and 4 less wins. While I see not even one hint that this team can and will turn it around, we weren't all that hopeful last May, either. In 2025, we were 4 games under .500 on May 31st and also on June 9th. No, I'm not projecting an 8 out of 9 game winning streak, this June 10th. As well as things looked after that stretch, we dipped to 43-45 on July 2nd. No, I'm not projecting a 10 game win streak like we had starting July 3rd not a 7 game streak later that month, but the plus side is that we play crappier teams, this year. We ended the 2025 season 16 games over .500. We basically played way under .500 ball for the whole season, other than those three stretches of 25-2. Again, there are no hints we can have 2-3 stretches like that, but baseball has a history of teams that turn their seasons around- for the good or bad.
  7. I said the team sucks. I'm not optimistic we stop sucking, but making the playoffs is a possible and something that could happen. There is no glory in maybe being the worst team to make the playoffs.
  8. The AL is so bad that the CWS and A's are tied for the 4th best record at 23-22. Two teams are tied for the last WC slot and are 3 games below .500! SEA (22-25) and TEX (21-24) Although the Sox have 6 teams to jump over the reach #6, they are just 2 GB the WC. We still suck, but the league does, too, so maybe we can become the worst team to ever make the playoffs! Something to play for! We are -13 in run differential. 5 teams are worse and 9 better in the AL. We've played 23 games vs teams at .500 or better (9-14.) The Yanks have played 9, the CWS 17 and Athletics 18. The Yanks are 1-8 Athletics 7-11 CWS 6-11
  9. With all the losses piling up, it's been largely ignored, but yes indeed! 2.05 Tolle 5 GS/31 IP 2.44 Suarez 8 GS/44 IP 3.18 Gray 7 GS/ 34 IP 3.21 Early 9 GS/48 IP Bello has allowed only 2 ER in his last 13.1 IP (1.35 ERA)
  10. GRE lost it's 14th game in 15! Winnay hit 2 dingers, Cespedes (.922) and Gonzales (.913) had 4 hits each. Godbout had a rough night (0-5 w 3 Ks) Sal had 12 hits, 7 BBs and scored 9 runs, but lost. The farm went 0-4, but the big team WON!
  11. That was the closest I could find. It kinda supports your point.
  12. That is the right question.
  13. Not red hot--True. The hottest streaks have been 3-4 days long... hardly long enough to call it one. The best I could find (14+ games) 1.078 Contreras (14 gms: game 7-20) 1.033 Abreu (15 gms: gm 2-16) .963 Rafaela last 17 games (He had an earlier 10 gm stretch at .970) .889 Yoshida (first 14 games played)
  14. How crazy is this? Sox are the 3rd worst team in the AL and 5 GB the 3rd best team! The Sox are 3 GM the 5th spot. There is a thread called "The Lost Season," but maybe there should be one called "The Lost League."
  15. Watch: they'll win a couple games 28-2, and their stats will be mid pack.
  16. Pipeline was a poor choice of words, as it means their own farm system. Whatever you want to call it, they keep a steady flow of good to great pitching.
  17. Sox Rankings and DRS by position: C (47 catchers with 140 innings) 16 Wong +1 31 Narvaez -1 _______________ 1B 3 Contreras +4 (1st in OAA at +5) ________________ 2B 13 Mayer +1 (7th in OAA at +7) __________________ 3B 1st Durbin +7 (2nd OAA at +4) ___________________ SS 18-24th Story -1 (23rd in OAA at -2) _____________________ LF 3rd Duran +4 (4th in OAA at +) _______________________ CF 6th Rafaela +3 (3rd in OAA +4) _________________________ RF 1st Abreu +11 (The next guy is +6!) 2nd in OAA at +5 _____________________________________ Team 1st in DRS at +11 (STL is at +7 & 3 teams are at +4) Our team DRS equals the next two teams combined. We are second in OAA at +4 (HOU is at +6)
  18. Another point on dealing away IKF: if Story no longer starting (big if) we might not really need infield defense on the bench. Durbin is real good on D at 3B and Mayer is fine at 2B. I guess Monasterio at SS could use a defensive replacement late in games, and Sogard does not really fit that mold.
  19. My expectation for offense was very low on IKF, so he's not the big difference maker, especially with his low playing time. Hell, Monasterio has played more. To me, Durbin offers more hope of recovery than Duran & Story, but that's not to say I think he can hit over .650 for the rest of the season. Trading Story, even if we pay 90-95% of his contract might be tough. Trading Duran to someone who thinks they can fix him might be possible, but the return will be meager. It might be worth keeping him and hope he snaps out of it.
  20. Maybe we need to take some notes on what the Brewers are doing with their pitching pipeline... 2.12 Misiorowski 9 GS 2.09 Harrison 8 GS 3.06 Chad Patrick 5 GS 2.17 Aaron Ashby (8 wins and 0 Losses in 1 GS and 19 RP games) 2.61 Coleman Crow 2 GS 3.24 Shane Drohan 1GS and 6 RP
  21. Woo lost 2-0 in a 5 inning game. Gamboa 2 ER in 4IP Ward 1-2 w BB and 0 SBs
  22. So, Story joins Crochet, Coulombe and Anthony on the short IL. (Crawford my move to the 60 Day at any moment.) 60 Day: Houck, Casas, Sandoval, Romy & Oviedo Updates: Houck- will be lucky to return in SEPT. Casas and Oviedo- will see doctors soon to gauge their progress and determine where they are at. (LOL) Romy- Has been playing catch in recent days and hopes to start swinging on May 15. Sandoval- Threw a side session for first time in several weeks on May 15 Crawford- Has been playing catch out to 90 feet and will continue to increase volume of throws and distance as he goes. Anthony- Hopes to grip, swing a bat soon. Coulombe- Started a Minor League rehab assignment for Double-A Portland, last night Crochet- Took an important step on May 13, throwing a 20-pitch bullpen session, marking his first trip to the mound since he went on the injured list.
  23. Berrios broke his elbow. Fried to IL.
