  1. I'm not sure Wikelman ever had a line like this.
  2. Some happenings in MLB: The Tigers were swept by MIN and are in last place. Seattle has the worst record in MLB. The Cubs are in last place, despite spending a ton, this winter. All three teams were picked to win their divisions. The Marlins are in first place, and PHI in 4th place. Cincy is a half GB MIL. The Angels, O's and Twins are also in second place. Isn't baseball a wonderful sport?
  3. How about Jack Anderson in the pen? (He'd have to be added to the 40, first.)
  4. This is the part that made a trade seem like a no brainer. I know they wanted Abreu, but Duran would help them more than Paredes would have helped us.
  5. Indeed, and we still have Tolle, Crawford and Sandoval as possibilities for depth or maybe even pen help, later on in the season.
  6. Uberstine finished off Woo's shutout win: 3 IP 1H 0ER 1BB 3K Ehrhard homered in POR's 4-3 win. GRE got the shutout, too, They won 2-0 and Gartrell & Brooks both pitched 2 shutout innings. GRE pitchers had 17 Ks! They allowed 3 hits and walked 5. SAL completed the farm sweep with a 2-1 win.
  7. Farm starts.... Valera with another gem: 5 IP 2H 0ER 1BB 9K Anderson: 6 IP 3H 0ER 1BB 7K Rivera: 4.1 3H 1ER 1BB 7K Brown: 3.2 1H 0ER 3BB 7K
  8. This winter's Rule 5 List: Marvin Alcantara Jack Anderson Nate Baez Miguel Bleis Caleb Bolden Brooks Brannon Max Carlson Isaac Coffey Luis Cohen Matt Duffy Drew Ehrhard Austin Ehrlicher Freili Encarnacion Cade Feeney Max Ferguson Zach Fogell Johanfran Garcia Ronny Hernandez Nathan Hickey Jojo Ingrassia Nicholas Judice Ahbram Liendo Raudelis Martinez Tyler McDonough Hayden Mullins Trennor O'Donnell Wyatt Olds Jedixson Paez Brendan Rodgers Dalton Rogers Mikey Romero Caden Rose Denison Sanchez Noah Song Isaac Stebens Nelly Taylor Stanley Tucker Caden Vire Braiden Ward Jacob Webb Blake Wehunt Natanael Yuten
  9. Agreed, and so far Gray has aged well. He's actually been better post prime. ERA/FIP 3.51/3.17 Age 32-36 3.78/3.77 Age 27-31 3.42/3,61 Age 23-26 (3.76 minors)
  10. I like our bench, and much of our bench, especially SP'ers carried us, last season.
  11. Day Off today FRI- at STL (Early) SAT- at STL (Suarez) SUN- at STL (Bello) MON- at MIN (Crochet) TUE- at MIN (Gray) WED- at MIN (Early) THU- OFF FRI>SUN- DET (Suarez-Bello-Crochet)
  12. I understand that. I might have given up Mayer & Tolle, but we'd have still needed an infielder. Ideally, a trade centered around Duran or Rafaela plus 2-3 from Clarke, Fitts, Dobbins, Fajardo & Travieso plus Arias or Romero would be best, but maybe that's not enough. I think KMarte was an easier target, due to his contract situation compared to Neto. If teams did not want Duran, I think we could have involved a 3rd team to even it out. I realize this is all speculation, and maybe I'd have said no to what the final offers needed to be, so my "what if" is based on fantasy. I get that.
  13. I liked the Durbin trade and still think it will be a plus upon final grading. I'd have been fine with Durbin, no IKF and a better infielder added, too. Maybe we'd have ended up platooning Durbin and mayer until an injury happened, of Story's time came up.
  14. I think it worked, last year, so they rinsed and repeated. Like last year, they hoped some SP'ers would be used from the pen, but that hardly happened, at all, due to so many injuries, and then we traded Newcomb, who went o to be a very good pen guy- not to mention the Priester deal. 2025 RP innings buy pitchers who were viewed as mostly starters: 19 Newcomb 11 Criswell 8 Dobbins 6 Tolle 5 Bello 4 Fitts 3 Harrison, May 2 Buehler
  15. Yes, and even if we were 5-6 GB the last playoff slot with 9 teams ahead of us, it's way too early to panic.
  16. No chance, because Brez would refuse to give up Tolle and or Early plus more.
  17. It is possible many teams want(ed) Duran, but Brez valued him more highly and could not agree on any returns offered.
  18. From soxprospects,com... Player of the Day: The long-awaited professional debut of Brandon Neely went as well as could have hoped, with the 22-year-old former Florida Gator went two hitless innings, striking out five. Neely dropped into the third round after an uneven Junior campaign in which he posted a 5.13 ERA but struck out 108 batters in 79 innings in a swingman role. He was unable to debut last season because of elbow soreness that he was able to rehab rather than get surgery. He is currently ranked 49th in the system.
  19. Well said. The one thing I wonder about is that with the Suarez signing, I wonder, if we could have traded Fitts, Clarke, Galle plus some guys from the Oviedo and Durbin trade and gotten a better infielder.
  20. Sox are in a 3 way tie for the second worst record in the AL, but two team we are tied with or ahead of are also "contenders" for a playoff slot: 4-8 BOS, DET (and CWS) 4-9 SEA We are 1.5 GM the 6th best team in the AL. 2 GB from BAL and MIN slotted 4th and 5th.
  21. I would have demanded King, Sousa or Janek, but not one for one. Would you have given Rafaela one for one?
  22. Yup, and he seems like a better choice than Buehler was, last year. Same cost, except for the players traded away for Gray.
  23. The Sox have 5 batters doing okay or better and 8 not doing so well: (some really small sample sizes here) 1.128 Wong (13 PA) 1.110 Abreu (49) .875 Masa (24) .859 Willson (53) .790 Rafaela (34) _______________ .656 Roman (52) .598 Mayer (33) _______________ .550 Duran (39) .508 Monasterio (13) .490 Narvaez (28) .391 Story (55 leads team) .391 Durbin .258 IKF (12) _______________ Team splits: .657 v R and .697 v L .642 Away and .692 Home .640 RISP and .644 Men on Base .601 Late & Close and .567 High Leverage .546 1st slot .414 2nd slot .834 3rd .583 4th 1.121 5th .323 6th .739 7th .710 8th .783 9th Our 7-8-9 battera are doing better than our 1-2-4-6 batters.
  24. And Gray is 7th in fWAR over the same time, but of course his age raises many concerns about going forward.
