    You can't be serious. Rafaela's deal is a bargain, and every GM in MLB would gladly take him and his contract. His 4.1 fWAR is top 30 in MLB. His 8.0 fWAR since 2025 is top 25. (bWAR 10.6) He's owed: 27:$3.5M, 28:$5.5M, 29:$7.5M, 30:$10.5M, 31:$13M, 32:$16M club option ($4M buyout)

    Mookie was a generational talent and a good guy. That was as low a point as losing Fisk, Lynn, Burly and others in the 70's.

    It was Early? (We know it's not Mayer... LOL) Maybe we trade Anthony? Nobody is even near the Betts-Devers level, except maybe Tolle.     Actually it was Bogey, but since he didn't put up great numbers, the talk died down. (There was also the Sale trade, too.)

    He's been in the bigs for parts of 4 seasons on 4 teams. In this sense, he's no Grissom- more should be known about him. One big issue is he never showed much offense, until this year, so doubts about it being for real or not is a legit question to ask. Des[ite missing about half of 2026, he still has his most career PAs (329,) That's pretty legit, but not long enough to be sure about anything. 17 HRs and 35 XBHs in about a half season has gotten me excited- perhaps overly so. (I'm not afraid to say I'm a homer with optimistic tendencies.)

    I'd say... 50% he's on the opening day 26 man roster. (He won't be on the 40 and not 26 for obvious reasons.) 40% he's in AAA as we keep 40 players we like, and wait until Story gets hurt or sucks, or Mead gets hurt- tehn add him to the 40 & 26. 10% he's traded with others for a bigger bat SS (1-3 yrs of control)

    Like it or not, I think Brez might be counting on Arias more than he ever did with Mayer.

    I know you don't trust Mead. I suppose he could be the next Grissom, but I'm thinking he's be one of our top 3-4 batters next season and maybe 1 or 2.

    I get it. I'm always for more pitching, especially high quality pitching. I'm also for pitchers who pitch. I wasn't sure Sale could ever reach high quality again, either. I didn't see paying $27M for a big question mark as being a sure keeper. We needed a 2B real bad. My point has been there was some logic to the trade- not that it was riskless or even a good trade at the time. Initially, I did not like the deal, so really, I get your points and don't disagree. There was a chance Sale never pitcher 100 IP in a season again and or never went under a 4.00 ERA again. There was a chance Grissom would solve the 2B issue- kinda like a chance Jeter Down would be our SS, except Grissom had some MLB production under his belt already. The deal ended up being the worst one in half a century. Maybe Bagwell beats it out.

    +$6M IKF and $9M Sandoval, and it still seems way off.

    At the time, Grissom seemed more promising than anyone else we had, and I had hopes he might fix a position in flux since the Pedey injury. We swung and missed at a position we needed badly.

    I've heard that report. I'm not defending the $17M, but Sale at full salary for grissom was never going to happen.

    That pretty much made him a $10M/yr pitcher for ATL, which seemed about right, when you factor in he might have had 4:1 odds against 100 IP. It's hard to know what Grissom's value was, because the ide was he was not good at SS but could/should be okay at 2B. Turns out he wasn't, and his bat heroics year one looks like a fluke. We needed a 2Bman. We needed to get away from hoping injured pitchers come back (like Kluber, Richards, Paxton, Buehler, Sandoval...) where everybody is screaming stay away from those types! Remember, Kluber was a CY Young winner, too. This whole rag is based on hindsight. I know some didn't like it day one, including me, but my opinion changed after a few days. Yes, the $17M seemed excessive, but we did save $10M.

    I fully grasp all the reasons to keep Sale. I was the one who coined the "Cris Freakin' Sale" nickname, when we got him. I loved the trade. I loved the extension, unlike many. I believed and believed and believed and believed, then I gave up. It would be like trading Story and then he hits .310 with 40 Hrs.

    That does curb my initial wish for a BLowe, some. Maybe Suzuki is our #1 target- like with many other teams. I just don't see us trading more prospects, at this point, but I'm fine with trading some for players with 4-5 years of control (3 if a stud.)

    He might have some upside on his bat, but he will most likely never be a big plus on O. His wRC+ was an even 100, this year, and his .710 OPS was below average among the top 270 batters in MLB (30 teams x 9 batters and 168th out of 270.) His OPS+ is 101 for his first 1100 PAs in MLB. There is room for growth, and for those who value more recent numbers he hit .798 at the 50 game mark and beyond. 3B is an area we could improve offense, but I think at his age, with his defense and upside on offense, I'd choose to upgrade LF/DH or 2B/DH or SS before I looked at 3B. I know you position on positions, but it is important to catch and throw the ball. Trading Durbin plus more for a better 3B is fine by me.

    Soagard, White and Gasper are replaceable, but since their trade value is not high, keeping them is a good idea. I just wouldn't call them must keeps. Sogard> 1B Romy, Casas, Mead, 2B Seigler, Monasterio, Cheng, Story/Arias, 3B Monasterio, Cheng, Eaton Gasper> 1B Sogard, Romy, Casas, Mead, C Wong, Jo Garcia, DH Yoshida, Casas/Sogard-Jones/Romy White> Jones is also out of options, Duran, Campbell, Eaton, Ward

    B Lowe or Suzuki I would not sign Arozarena or Bichette.

    Agreed, and pitching depth is essential, but we have a very nice, young 5 under control for a long time. We have decent 3-4 deep depth (Oviedo, Crawford, Houck & Paez,) but will need more at some point- maybe even 2027. Maybe Oviedo will come through the way Bennett did. For 2027, we need to boost the offense, first. I'd love to replace Gray in kind, but I'm not sure we have enough to do both.

    My point is there was never a mantra that stated that he'd be 100% healthy and do better than .800 in his first 500-1000 PAs. Sure, there was hype that he'd end up being a star, but nobody I know said he'd be an all star from day one. I doubt anyone said it here, either.
