  1. Not as long as he keeps spending big and winning every few years.
  2. I picked his entire time with the Sox. You want to highlight his Philly career and first 4 starts of 2022. We both are cherry-picking but one is lying about the other’s sample size choice.
  3. Sound about right. Likely not enough to win the bidding.
  4. I can see passing on Nate, at his age and with his history, but a 3 year deal is not a killer. He was such a big part of the 2018 ring, and his clubhouse presence is worth something.
  5. Who would be? he'll take $27M.
  6. Losing 1 is understandable. Losing 2 is a shame. Losing 3 is unforgivable.
  7. I think people forget it is free agent money, not pre-arb player money, and within the context of the debate about extending or re-signing Devers or replacing him with some other FA, the numbers are relevant. .
  8. Locking yourself into career numbers is missing the forest for the trees. Players often take time to develop into decent pitchers. He still walks too many batters, but he makes it up on allowing fewer hits. He was good last year and has been good the last 3 starts, this year. Don't let his first 4 starts and his career in Philly outweigh everything else. Now, that being said, he can certainly revert to his old self, but he may not. I never said Pivetta is great, but he does not suck. A 4.26 FIP since joining the Sox is pretty damn good for a 5th starter, and beats many team's number 3 and 4 starters.
  9. On a team that can spend over $200M, every year, we can afford to keep 1 or 2 of our best players for the long haul. Devers will be younger than most FAs, so replacing him in kind, via free agency, later on makes little sense for 2024 and beyond. Just extend him or re-sign him. He's worth it. (Plus, don't give the Yanks a chance to get this lefty!)
  10. Again, your reading skills are lacking. I posted... "Freakin' Chris Sale!" from day one (LOL!)
  11. 1. Pivetta does not suck. 2. If you went by injury history, the Yanks would be in need of a rebuild, now. 3. We finally have several decent pitching prospects in AA and AAA. 4. Sale was is not "very injury prone." 5. $110M goes a long way when adding pitchers.
  12. 43 minutes for Harden. 11 pts. No free throws. Cancer. Nuff said.
  13. DEVERS FOREVERS!! He's going to get even better!
  14. I never get why you guys keep thinking a rebuild on a team spending top 5 in MLB is going to take years and years. The farm already has good players who will be called up in a matter of weeks or months NOT 2-3 years.
  15. I picked, three as well. Offering him a deal, now, makes sense with his injury history, he might take a little less. Would you offer $75M/3 or more?
  16. Jimmy Butler da-MAN!
  17. You jinxed your pen, today.
  18. Groome ends up with... 6.2 IP 2 H 2 ER 1 BB 7 K His ERA dropped to 4.26.
  19. Personally, I'd go a bit higher, but I think he likes Boston. $300M/11?
  20. And, what did we spend that winter (2020-2021?) We stayed under the tax line and spent only $10M Richards $7M Kike x 2 $5M Perez $3M Renfroe $3M Marwin $2M Andriese $1.5M Sawamura x 2 + adding Ottavino's contract with Frank German That's just over $30M in free agent money and about $40M counting Ottavino and 8 slots, total. If we spend $110M on 7-8 slots, next winter, we should be able to keep pace with Bogey, JD, Eovaldi and a few other key role players. And, that's not counting on much from the farm.
  21. Why "lengthy," unless we go back to trying to reset the tax? Are you assuming Bloom will swing and miss on half or more of his FA signings, this winter? $22M JD $20M Bogey $17M Eovaldi $16M Price $7M Kike $7M Vax $7M Wacha $5M Hill $3M Strahm $2M Plawecki $2M Robles $2M Sawamura (option) That's about $110M for about 6-7 major slots to fill: SP SP RP C 2B DH OF If the farm can fill 1 or 2 of these slots, or roles like back-up catcher, 6th starter, 6th man in the 8 man pen and utility roles, we might get by needing to sign just 4-5 major free agents. $110M can get you very good talent. In the past, Bloom has been given $35-40M to spend on 8-11 slots, and this past winter, he spent: $23M Story $10M Paxton (more about 2023>) $7M Wacha $5M Hill $4M Diekman $3M Strahm $2M Robles That's about $55M for 7-8 slots. (THe JBJ trade added salary, as did taking Vaz's option) I know we can't assume what Henry will agree to pay, this coming winter, but if he keeps the budget near what it is now, there is no reason to think we can't "rebuild" a formidable team by 2023. Here is the remaining framework to work with and back filling 8 slots: SP1 _______ SP2 Whitlock SP3 Sale SP4 Paxton SP5 Pivetta SP6 Bello, Seabold, Winckowski, Groome, Mata, Walter, Murphy CL _______ RP2 Houck RP3 ______ RP4 Taylor RP5 _______ RP6 Diekman RP7 Schreiber RP8 Barnes, Sawamura, Brasier, Davis, Valdez, Danish, German, Crawford, Feltman C ________, Wong/RHernandez/Cottam 1B Casas, Dalbec (TReed, Binelas 2B _____, Downs, Hamilton (Yorke) 3B Devers SS Story (Arauz, Lugo) LF Verdugo (Granberg, JDavis) CF ______, Duran (Rafaela, Jimenez) RF JBJ (McDonough) DH ______ (Granberg, Koss
  22. He might take $280M/10.
  23. I'd start with $25M x 9 and would try $25M x 10, next. I'd top out at close to $28M x 10. He's still young, and he's a pure hitter. I think his bat will age well.
  24. So, 2 people would offer nothing? Why? To not dishonor him with a lowball offer?
  25. Through 4, now. You did not jinx him, yet.
