  1. I'm not sure why so many people seem to think we are 3-5 years away from having a chance, and I was the one crying "cliff" 3 years ago.
  2. I'm not against re-signing Eovaldi. I just listed some of the more notable FAs.
  3. 30 Syndergaard 30 Rodon (may opt out if he reaches 110 IP) 31 Manaea 31 Wacha 33 Eovaldi 34 Bassitt 35 deGrom
  4. At $20-21M or closer to $24-25M?
  5. I don't think the stretch will be too long, but please don't let the Yanks win before the next one.
  6. Losing Taylor hurts. Best Sox RP'ers by WAR 2019-2021 2.4 Barnes 2.1 Workman 1.7 Taylor 1.6 Whitlock 0.7 Brasier
  7. Team top 2021 OPS teams' drop from 2021>2022: (Red= improved) .797> .691 TOR -106 .783> .697 HOU -86 .777> .630 BOS -147 .769> .709 SFG -60 .759> .644 CIN -115 .759> .720 LAD -39 .758> .638 CWS -120 .754> .695 ATL -59 .754> .685 WSN -69 .717> .751 LAA +35 .750> .686 TBR -66 .729> .742 NYY +13 .738> .690 MN -48
  8. Indeed, even Lester, the much talked about ex-Sox player was past his peak. Some were not "homegrown" like Beltre & Damon. Many bitched about Ellsbury, especially when he chose the Yanks. Ellsbury was no Betts, but the strategy is not new. That was my point.
  9. Yes, my bad. I was looking through the rosters up to the time of Mookie's departure. I should not have listed him. Still, the lists shows a strategy that has been in place for a while, and long before Mookie and Bogey. The Sox are not afraid to part with their biggest named players, and many times, it turned out well, and or we won a ring afterwards. The post Mookie era is TBD.
  10. My point was we reached "the point" you talked about log before Betts- no need to mention him, since that was my point.
  11. I just named a few guys we did not want to pay. (Granted, some are dubious, but we clearly let a lot of top talent walk away or we pushed them away. I meant Beltre not Beltran.
  12. A "feeling" does not mean a fact. Neither of us know what Devers feels about playing somewhere else at the same money scenario I implied.
  13. We have not just arrived at this "point." We lost... Mueller DLowe Pedro Damon Manny (not all about the money with him) Beltran Papelbon Beckett & AGon (to shed CC's money) Ellsbury (Thank God!) Lester, Lackey & Andrew Miller Kimbrel, Porcello, Price ERod Somehow, we've kept on winning with this strategy.
  14. In Texas, Mask wearing had no meaning.
  15. I don't recall an uproar over "No Shoes: No Service." Man, having no shoes is very dangerous to us all!
  16. I hear you, but I'm glad we let some of our big stars go when we did, in the past. Personally, I think it all has something to do with Bogey's SS D, and his desire to not change positions.
  17. Agreed. I'm not 100% sure Bogey would take a $220M/6 offer from Boston over a $220m/6 offer from some other selected teams, but yes, we kinda knew about Betts. I get the feeling Devers loves playing with the Sox, but maybe he'd love playing in Alaska, too.
  18. Um, I did say "Yes, Nestor is younger." Maybe your reading comprehension skills need more work. What makes Nestor's ERA+ 103, now, is a tiny sample size similar to the one you blasted me for using with Pivetta's recent 3 game stretch. (BTW, I also referenced Pivetta's 2021 season and his full time with the Sox, 100 ERA+ in 192 IP, which is about the same IP'd and ER+ as Nestor has, career 103 in 202 IP.)
  19. They decided no Bogey before the Story signing. Had they not signed Story, they'd have added a SS by opening day next season, anyway. Yes, it sent a clear message to Bogey, but it is what it is. They do not value Bogey like Bogey and his agent do, and like some GMs will do, this winter.
  20. That is a clear distinction, but he had more value at his time of free agency than the other two do/will, thanks to his defense.
  21. No doubt, but we should have over $100M to spend, next winter, and who knows how much after 2023. Just as one example, if we lost Bogey & Nate but signed Judge and 2 from Wacha, Manaea + Bassitt, would you think that was a gain?
  22. I'm not one of those posters. I once suggested offering Betts a 14 year deal, and have repeatedly posted "Devers Forevers!" However, if management thinks they can sign better FAs than these last 3 (Betts, Bogey & Devers), and they pan out, I won't complain.
  23. Nestor's was 94, before this year. Yes, he's younger, but pitchers do get better, often enough.
  24. 2.6 was more than Taillon, last year, as well as more than German & King combined. He might "suck,' if he were a team's ace, but he's our #5. His 2.1 fWAR placed him 61st out of MLB's top 150 SP'ers (30 teams x 5 starters). That means he was very close to being top 60 (or in the #2 SP'er category.) That's not a tiny sample size. How about a bigger sample size? Since he joined the Sox in Sept of 2020, he still ranks 61st out 150 SP'ers in that time frame with a 2.6 fWAR. 2.2 Nestor Cortes 1.2 D German having a guy that ranks as a top #3 starter in MLB as your 5th starter does not "suck."
  25. 33-38 is a 6 year deal. Come on, jacko!
