I think the new OPS Mendoza line is .600 not .700, and too many Sox players are pushing .400's.

I don't think WAR factors in how well pitchers do with one catcher vs the other, and only a few posters seem to care or think it matters.

I'm fine with breaking traditions, and yes, I started these threads way back on the old site, and nobody has to stick to my rough guidelines on when to start Part III. I usually go with the trade deadline, since the team often takes on a new look, but I've gone before that, when I think the team is no longer in contention, and in that sense, I think MVP jumped the gun, but he might have different reasons for starting it, now.

Right now, as bad as it has gone for the Sox, we are 5.5 behind TOR, 6.5 behind TBR and 9 behind LAA. I think we will finish with a better record than the 2nd place Central team, but with a tougher schedule, that may not happen.

NYY, TOR, HOU, TBR I think CWS win the Central, but MN might beat 'em out. I think LAA wins the 3rd WC over MN & the Sox.

I expect there won't be a Part IV and "A realistic Look at 2023" will start before 2022 is over. That does not mean I'm giving up hope. It is not unreasonable to think we can squeak into the playoffs.

Yes, meaning a whole lot of times, which it really was not, unless you mean times you finished first and made the payoffs and we did not, but that hardly means "eliminated." You still won't clarify your meaning- something else commonly done when one party of the conversation asks for more specifics, but I would not expect a Yankee fan to understand any of that.

Like just finish ahead of the Sox or do they have to win the game that knocks the Sox out of the playoff race? Either are "countable" feats, BTW.

Like when they beat the Sox to mathematically eliminate them for the season? Surely, that number is not "countless," but now we'll hear a lesson on hyperbole.

You clearly don't know how a conversation or debate goes. That is clear, to me. Of course the Yanks eliminated the Sox in a countable number of times during the many seasons they played, but that was not what was being discussed. It's not that tough to try to follow along in a conversation, unless people are not being specific and clear within the context of the subject at hand, which was playoff eliminations.

It was not clear that's what you meant, since you directly responded to a post about playoff eliminations. You also did not say, "season" or division playoff elimination games, either. Usually, when you want to expand the debate or take it in another direction, you try to make it clear.

We really did not finish in last place too often from the 70's through the 90's. I think 1992 might have been the only time. It's funny, because I used to tell my fellow Sox fans, for decades, "I'll take 10 last place finishes for just one ring." Well, we may hit 10 last place finishes in my lifetime, but 4 rings is 4 times all I ever hoped for in all of my sports fandom. We might even reach 10 last place finsihes from the 70's on, before we reach 10 rings, but to me, the 4 outweighs them all, and my guess is we reach 5 before I'm in the ground.
