This might actually work. With the 2024 buy-out, Barnes is owed slightly more than the Dodger portion of Price's deal. He does have 2 years to get his act straightened out, but the Dodgers would probably do this. The only gain we get is budget relief in 2023.

I'm not good at predicting what FAs will get, but I think Bogey gets $200M/6 or more.

We gave them Betts to cancel out just half of Price's deal, we should get something thrown in, too.

That was absurd, especially in light of what Baez and Story got. I think we have to view that contract as an outlier, but maybe Bogey is not viewing it that way.

I'm not so sure. Maybe if Wacha and Hill remain out for longer than expected. Pivetta seems to be turning things around. I guess, maybe if he costs nothing, he might be the 5th starter until and if Paxton or Sale ever return, this season. Make Houck and Whitlock the 1-3 inning closers.

It's hard to know. If you go by the Baez and Story comps, $200M/6 is too high, but I think he's got better name recognition and maybe the ability to generate more fan excitement than the two similar comps that signed, this winter. fWAR from 2018-2022 17.4 Bogey (18.7 bWAR) 16.6 Baez (18.8 bWAR) 15.8 Story (19.5 bWAR) 15.6 Semien 15.1 Correa (who is younger) 10.3 Seager (who is younger)

Stacking the farm would also allow for trading some of the farm to fill some gaps that might be too expensive or risky to fill via gree agency- like finding a good young catcher. I'm not quite ready to start seriously looking at fire sale possibilities. It's too early for that, but I do think our extended future could be greatly enhanced with a mega fire sale and a busy winter.

I think we might make strong runs at Devers and Nate. I think the others walk. I think JD will sign for significantly less than $40M/2- maybe $40M/3 or $30M/2. I would not be surprised to see Kike back, either. Wacha might become too expensive. Finding a good catcher won't come cheap. It will be interesting to see who offers Bogey the most, and if it will be over $200M/8. Do you offer Bogey $200M/8 and tell him he's playing 2B, or do you stick with Story at 2B?

OPS Against as a starter: .467 Wacha .622 Hill .627 Whitlock .663 Houck .702 Nate .795 Pivetta As a RP'er .304 Schreiber .384 Whitlock .411 Strahm .556 Valdez .588 Robles .647 Danish .651 Sawamura .714 Brasier .721 Davis .745 Houck .782 Barnes .857 Diekman .997 Crawford Take away those bottom 3, and the other 11 have prettyb decent to great OPS Against numbers. 11 should be enough to work with, when we have an 8 man pen. If our starters ever get all healthy at the same time, our pen could be okay or better.
