    And those offenses haven't been what they used to be either. I still think he'd get killed, pitching in Fenway on a regular basis. Besides, we both know pitchers don't improve, once they hit the ML.

    Exactly. Shields record at Fenway is 2-9: 5.42 ERA; 1.44 WHIP At Yankee Stadium, (both) he's 4-9 5.07 ERA 1.33 WHIP. Wouldn't that be fun to watch on a regular basis?

    Sure, unless the price of said pitcher includes one or more of the kids that's helping to spark the offense.

    I guess it depends on what "ace" we're talking about and who the Sox would have to give to get them. On one hand, Hamels probably wouldn't saved this team on his own, but the Sox would have him in the rotation going forward. if the Sox were to give up one or two players that are now on the ML roster to get a TOR pitcher, there's every chance that the Sox would be in even worse shape. Betts and Bogaerts are two of the few bright spots of this dismal season. Frankly, I don't think Hamels or Shields are elite enough to have taken any pressure of the the rest of the staff. Scherzer, maybe...

    You can say that about any free agent, but what's the point? And if you consider it quibbling, don't reply. No one is forcing you to continue.

    Now you're reaching. The Sox didn't want to give Lester a 6-7 year contract because he'd be 36 or 37 years old. It had nothing to do with well or badly Lester took care of himself. The Giants were never Sandoval's first choice because, among other things, they were on him about his weight and he didn't like it.

Doesn't sound like the same situation as Lester at all.

    That's your opinion. The money is no big deal if I lose, but I admit having to give someone like you money will bother me. I usually don't bet with someone I have no respect for, but it's my own fault for being hasty. And, I wasn't the one trying to weasel out of the bet at the beginning of the season. That would be you. And quit crying to the mods. You sound like a little girl.

    If they are convinced they're not going to compete this year and can get decent prospects in return I'd do it. But, they had better be ready to spend on free agent pitching next year.
