  1. Yes, and they can sit him much easier in AAA. It's easier to skip a few starts in AAA, than it is in a major league rotation.
  2. That's true. But if, at the end of August, the Sox are three games out of first, with no shot at a WC spot, how much pressure will there be on the club to keep running Rodriguez out there? I'd much rather have him pace himself until the end of the year. If the Sox need a little extra help to get in the post season, he's available. Again, no team is running away with the division. The Sox can afford to get a clearer picture of what Kelly can do and to be cautious with Rodriguez.
  3. Yup, if the Sox are in the mix and he's still showing the command he did last night, they'll find a way to use him. I just don't want to see the kid abused for the sake of trying to keep the team in contention, or to provide the fans "something exciting to watch".
  4. Yup, the most innings he's ever pitched was 145 in 2013. Last year he only pitched 120. The Sox might push it to 180, but I'd be surprised if it's anything past 150.
  5. Kelly is going to get at least another start or two. Rodriguez will be sent back to AAA until after the break, because, as sk7326 stated in another thread, it's much easier to manage his innings there. And his innings DO have to be managed, in spite of what's happening with the Sox rotation.
  6. Don't you know it's more important to be honest with the fans, than it is to have your pitcher's back? If he were honest, fans would be calling him a lousy teammate.
  7. Yup, tough to say a pitcher is being held back, when he hasn't pitched an inning in the majors.
  8. Did "they" not include Farrel in the conversation? The lefthander will join the Red Sox in Texas and make a spot start Thursday in order to give the rest of the rotation an extra day's rest. Manager John Farrell told reporters in Minnesota no starter will come out of the rotation and that Rodriguez will be sent back down to Pawtucket after his start Thursday. http://www.masslive.com/redsox/index.ssf/2015/05/eduardo_rodriguez_called_up_to.html
  9. Supposedly, Rodriguez will just get one start. I'd be surprised if he's going to take over someone's spot now.
  10. Another game where the pitching is very good, but they can't buy a couple of runs. At least Buchholz isn't totally collapsing after running into trouble.
  11. I think they took a gamble with the rotation with the idea of using a AAA arm if need be and making a trade at mid-season, if necessary. I think they knew it was possible one or two of their pitchers wouldn't pan out. I don't think they were all that impressed with this year's free agent crop and are keeping their options open for next off-season. The only locks they have for next year are Miley and Porcello.
  12. And judging by the tendency of fans to think long term, I'm sure there wasn't a single member that wanted Lackey gone after 2011. Too damned funny....
  13. "Short term" is an understatement. Some can't see past yesterday's game.
  14. Thurl Ravenscroft couldn't have said it better, SoxHop. Yesterday's game was putrid.
  15. Kelly looks like he's still a work in progress. Before yesterday's disaster, he pitched two decent games. I doubt very much that the Sox are going to give up on him now and send him to the pen. Two weeks ago we had to get rid of Miley, this week it's Kelly. Oh, and fire Cherington, while we're at it! That'll change things for the better!
  16. Missing Don and Jerry yet? LOL
  17. Hey! We could always go back to the Sox of the early 90s! Finishing 15 out every year was awesome!
  18. It probably has more to do with Pedey and Napoli having nothing better to do on a long flight than watching batting film, than it does with Davis not doing his job. I'd prefer that Davis spend his time working with the younger players anyway. The vets have been playing long enough to figure this stuff out for themselves.
  19. And, thanks to the Yankees yacking up their lead, one game closer to 1st
  20. Yup, the pitching staff is still going to have bad games, but a team ERA in the low 4s is more in line with what I expected. When your top hitter is the utility guy and the next guy is .030 BA points below that, you got issues. Napoli is definitely the most disappointing of the lot. After the spring training he had, I though he was ready for a big season. Just goes to show how misleading ST stats can be. Can we start with not sucking at Fenway any longer and go from there?
  21. Not totally accurate. The Sox have knocked a full ERA point of the the team ERA so far this month. Team ERA for April was 5.04, good for dead last in both leagues. Team ERA for May is 4.07, middle of the pack. The offense has been absolutely brutal. They need to snap out of whatever is causing the funk, before another AL East team gets hot.
  22. But,... but, he's not a "#2"!! I'm still trying to figure out why a rotation number is so important.
  23. I don't know if Masterson really has a physical issue, but it does sound like Farrel is about ready to pull him out of the rotation. A short rest, followed by a lengthy "rehab" in Pawtucket might help. If not he's out. It's too bad. I like the kid.
  24. Pretty good. The A's have hit about as well as the Sox, so far.
