  1. Well this explains a lot. Like why you think your math teacher is cooler than me. You just don't know what cool is.
  2. Hmmm. I wonder who voted yes.....
  3. UGH. I hate the idea of helping out the Yankees. That said, just say no to tanking!
  4. If Hanley cannot play first base decently, he would pretty much have to be traded. What else are the Sox going to do with him? It's a shame too, because I think he's going to turn it around with his bat.
  5. I think all the focus this offseason should be on pitching. The position players should be fine with what we already have. If Hanley could be an average first baseman, that would solve a lot of our issues. I think there's a fine line between being patient and being stubborn. When you know you have a good hitter, it's tough to pull the plug on him because he's likely to turn it around at any moment. Last I checked, Napoli was hitting very well since being traded.
  6. RHP R.A. Dickey (10-10, 4.09) vs LHP Henry Owens (2-2, 5.87) I have a feeling we're going to see some balls flying tonight. Go Sox!!!
  7. Left field has already been fixed. Pablo has been playing much better defense in the 2nd half, more like what the FO expected him to do when he was signed. Hanley at first base next season does concern me though.
  8. One should not even consider football until baseball season is over.
  9. And just say no to tanking!
  10. That first baseman is quite possibly already on the team, be it Hanley (though I have my doubts about that), Shaw, or as Spud has suggested, Swihart. IMO, we're in good shape as far as the position players go. We're also looking in much better shape as far as the rotation goes than we were a month ago. That's not to say we don't need that #1 pitcher, but things are certainly looking promising.
  11. I can't see breaking up this outfield for anything. It would have to be a deal that the FO is blown away by to trade Bradley or Betts. Henry has stated that improving defense will be a top priority. Well, it doesn't get much better than what we have right now.
  12. Ha! Donaldson is no Pablo with the glove!
  13. Nice! Papi and Pedroia - don't ever count those two out.
  14. Did you do that on purpose? LOL
  15. Nice post OJ. Thank you for the positive thread. What we've seen in August and September certainly gives us hope for next season.
  16. Cox Cable. Extra Innings has 12 channels on my cable. There are usually not enough channels to air both the home and away feeds. Usually the only time I get a choice is when several teams have off days and there are fewer games being played. I am blacked out on Extra Innings for all Os and Nats game. Therefore, I am forced to watch those games on MASN, which means I am stuck with Thorne for 18 games every season.
  17. Building the organization through the farm system does not mean that all of the team's farm players have to play on the Sox, or that all of the Sox' young players have to have been drafted and developed by the Sox. Having the pieces to trade for team needs is a huge aspect of building a strong farm system.
  18. Dojii, your two main points are absolutely correct - the first one about the importance of defense in improving a pitching staff and the second one about making the moves that give the TEAM better value, not the individual players. That being said, I'm not on board with the idea of moving Bogaerts back to 3B. Is he better suited for that position defensively than he is for SS? Probably, but the numbers, in a small sample, don't bear that out. More to the point though, moving him to 3B seems to have some kind of negative impact on him. Last year he was a disaster. He sees himself as a SS. I am a strong believer in the idea that a player should suck it up and do what's best for the team, but if moving him to 3B is going to have Xander take 3 steps backwards, then that is not going to work out best for the team.
  19. I have Extra Innings, so I usually don't have a choice as to which broadcast I watch. They usually air the home team's feed. I find Buck to be another one of the annoying announcers, though not as bad as Thorne.
  20. Ah. I like it!
  21. He's a baseball GM god. It's impossible to overrate him.
  22. I really wish I was here to see what kinds of things you posted about Theo when he was here.
  23. Not quite the same situation. With Porcello, you're locking up a young player into what should be his prime years, before he can reach free agency. It's similar to locking up Pedroia.
