  1. Hanley has officially been shut down for the season. Pablo has pneumonia and it is unlikely that he will return this season.
  2. Seeing as how the GM position is mostly a position in title only, it makes sense to promote someone from within. I like that Hazen has been around during the Theo and Cherington years, worked in player development, and is an analytics guy. Dombrowski is ultimately going to make the moves that he wants to make, but hopefully he will give serious consideration to Hazen's input. Dombrowski is at least giving the appearance of trying to strike a balance between old and new schools.
  3. A guy like Miley, who consistently gives the team around 200 innings and can keep the team in most games is very valuable at the back end of the rotation.
  4. I read today that Miley has a lower FIP than King Felix. LOL
  5. The stinking offense is not cooperating with this idea.
  6. I would not trade Hanigan. Then again, I think this team will be contenders next season if Dombrowski makes a couple of key moves, so the idea of having 2 young catchers who are still learning and developing does not sit well with me. The team will need a veteran catcher to mentor either Vazquez or Swihart through the learning curve. Besides that, I'm a big Hanigan fan.
  7. RIP Yogi. Baseball has lost a great one.
  8. Back to our rightful place in the cellar. Sigh......
  9. I agree about Mookie in CF.
  10. Owens works out of a bases loaded, no outs jam. Now we need some offense!
  11. Mookie airmails one from RF to give the Rays the lead. The Sox have to come back. I can't go back to last place!!!
  12. The Rays are currently in last place, where they belong, and we want to keep them there. Go Sox!!!
  13. Speaking of last place teams, we are no longer one of them! Woohoo!
  14. Who cares about football? Garbage time baseball, as you put it, is better than no baseball. I'm already becoming depressed about the idea of a long winter with no baseball.
  15. I agree that it is very unlikely that both will be catching for the Sox next season. I would like to see Swihart converted to either 1B or 3B, rather than trading him, but I understand the need to give up someone of value to get something of value in return. I read a couple of days ago that Swihart, by far, has the most wild pitches assigned to his pitchers when he is behind the plate. Again, I have nothing against Swihart, but this is yet another reason why I prefer Vazquez catching, despite his lesser offense.
  16. You are implying that if Ben is not a GM somewhere next season, it is because either he stinks and no other team wants him or he is stupid for taking a year off. Sorry, but neither one of those reasons is close to being true.
  17. Hill pitched a great game against the best offense in baseball. No more "but the Rays stink" excuses to take anything away from Hill's performance. The Sox win another series! Good job by Noe and Ross too!
  18. Why would he be stupid if he decided to take a year off? Maybe he's burned out and needs a break. Maybe he wants to spend time with his family. Maybe the right job that he's looking for hasn't presented itself yet. There was a good article by Cafardo today on Cherington's vision finally panning out and how he did not have the luxury of a patient fan base, which is exactly what I've been saying. Also in that article, it was mentioned that Cherington turned down the opportunity to interview with Seattle for the GM position. Despite your beliefs, there is interest in him.
  19. I'm with you Spud! Win, win, win! The other teams will have to take care of their own causes! Go Sox!!!
  20. But you want them to lose? I would not be heartbroken if they lost to the Jays right now, but I am still pulling for them to win. I am glad that they came back and won that game, despite that it helped out that evil team.
  21. So, you honestly think that being away from baseball for almost two years would not make a player rusty? I'm not talking about his mental gaffes. He still needs to work on his mental game. However, his physical game has been coming together quite nicely, now that he's had time to adjust to his new environment and get some regular playing time.
  22. LOL VA. You have my vote for Poster of the Year!
  23. I understand how you feel about helping the Yankees out, but the Sox should never tank.
  24. I absolutely hate that the Sox winning is helping out the Yankees, but I agree. Too bad for the Jays if they can't beat us. Hopefully, the Mets will take care of the Yankees tomorrow so the Sox winning will not allow them to gain another game. It would be really nice if some team could knock the Yankees out of the wildcard.
  25. Go Jackie Go! Maybe this will get him going again.
