  1. Fair enough. "Huge" is a subjective term. To me, it's more about the years than it is about the dollars.
  2. Mark Buehrle, LHP, 14-6, 3.53 ERA vs The Future Ace, RHP, 6-12, 5.21 ERA Pulling for our Sox, as always, but here is one time I can honestly say I won't be heartbroken if the Jays win. Happy Labor Day everyone! Go Sox!!!
  3. LOL Well done sir.
  4. EBJ? Am I missing something?
  5. That makes sense. It's odd that it goes back and decapitalizes words that have been quoted though. But not all words. There doesn't seem to be a rhyme or reason for how the decapitalization is selected.
  6. It's always fair to question these things. Questioning is not the same as making a blanket statement that Ben has done an awful job developing the farm, when the facts say otherwise. I think a lot of the pitching question can be explained by draft position and by the idea that the Sox draft the best available player, so they are not necessarily looking to draft pitching.
  7. I expected your pitching to be very good, if healthy. My point there was that it's not Tanaka who has been the difference maker this year, but rather the "lesser known" pitchers. Your offense coming alive was not predictable. McCann hitting a career high in HRs? McCann, ARod, Teixeira, and Beltran all bouncing back as well as they have? Your offense has had pretty much everything go right for them, which you need to have a strong season, but it certainly wasn't predictable.
  8. Believe it or not, it is usually the depth guys that make the difference between making the playoffs or not.
  9. LOL Please. We have several kids playing in the bigs, and we still have the best farm system in baseball. I get that you don't like Ben, but give credit where credit is due.
  10. I would really hate to see either Swihart or Vazquez traded, but I'm guessing one of them will be eventually. I realize his value goes down as a 1B, but I'd try Swihart out there, or maybe even 3B. I really like the idea of having a 3rd catcher on the team, just in case. But then, we'd have to figure out what to do with Hanley or Pablo.
  11. The above post was a test. Interesting....
  12. Yikes! I didn't notice that. I went back and looked, and the "I" in "I've" was also not capitalized in the quote. Weird.
  13. No, it's not. It only seems huge right now because he pitched so poorly this year.
  14. I likely won't be longing for Cherington, but I don't think he gets enough credit for the things he has done well. OTOH, if Dombrowski dismantles the farm in the next couple of years, then I just might be.
  15. Well I keep saying, and I honestly believe, that Cherington did not have the luxury of going into full "rebuild" mode. He had to try to keep the team competiive while rebuilding - not an easy task. To win a WS while "rebuilding" is actually quite an accomplishment. As far as the "huge contracts" are concerned, there were none issued until this past offseason. Really, the only one I consider huge is Panda's. Even with that, things should not have gone so badly this season.
  16. Trade speculation with Matt Harvey has increased because of his comments about possibly not pitching in the postseason. I don't know what his cost would be, but this seems like it is something right up the Red Sox' alley.
  17. People are speculating $210/7 yrs for Price. The number of years might even be greater. That is scary! I'm guessing that he will stay with the Jays. He really seems to like it there. Greinke has some kind of social anxiety disorder. It doesn't seem to be affecting him, but I would be cautious about his ability to handle the scrutiny in Boston.
  18. As I said before, this is all in hindsight. In hindsight, I don't really disagree with anything in this post. If Panda and Hanley had performed up to expectations, however, this would be a completely different conversation.
  19. I know I'm in the minority, but I still think it wouldn't be a bad idea to let Rodriguez start in AAA. He may not have a lot left to prove at that level, but some more seasoning wouldn't hurt. He would almost certainly get called up soon enough.
  20. I read this tweet earlier this morning, which IMO is spot on: Red Sox Stats ‏@redsoxstats 12 hrs12 hours ago At some point next year we are probably going to be like, wow we dumped Cherington as he was on the goal line of building a monster. Okay, maybe "monster" is going a bit too far, but what many people fail to realize is that Ben has set this team up well for the foreseeable future. If Dombrowski makes the right 2 or 3 key moves this offseason, we should be in very good shape for several years. As I've said before, his long term plan is coming to fruition. And while the last two years have been misses, he managed to bring us a World Series Championship while "rebuilding". Go figure.
  21. There is no way anyone could have foreseen Panda being the negative WAR player that he was the first half. People can dislike the contract all they want, but at least acknowledge that there was some good rationale behind signing him, and it wasn't just his postseason numbers.
  22. His signing, in hindsight, has not been helpful to the team so far. He might not have been worth his contract value, but he definitely should have been helpful to the team. Even those against the signing recognize that he should have been a fair improvement over Middlebrooks. Despite the resources that the Sox have, signings can certainly be disastrous.
  23. JERAD EICKHOFF (Who?), RHP, 1-2, 2.84 ERA vs The Rookie, LHP, 8-5, 4.25 ERA Prepare those brooms, ladies and gentlemen. Go Sox!!!
  24. OK, on the topic of yesterday's game, kudos to Miley for pitching a great, complete game. I know it's the Phillies, but these days, that is quite a feat nonetheless. Also, despite the team's record, the kids are playing with a lot of energy and excitement. Great stuff!
