  1. Speaking of Lovullo, I like what I have seen of him so far as a manager. If Farrell is not well enough to return, or Dombrowski decides to can him, I wouldn't mind Lovullo staying on as manager.
  2. LOL I had to Google it. I somehow missed the promos that they did during the telecast. I thought it was some hip-hop group who was coming to Boston for a concert.
  3. Well, it should offer some consolation going forward if he plays up to expectations for the rest of his contract, provided that he is not traded. Even without his postseason numbers, he's always been a pretty good player. Maybe not worth his contract, but a good player nonetheless.
  4. The offense comes through! Shut down inning Miley!
  5. It's nice to know I'm not the only one who thought that.
  6. These Rays announcers very annoying, BTW.
  7. Miley has settled down after the first inning. The offense has turned back into pumpkins.
  8. Baseball was not meant to be played in a dome.
  9. He was never worth the big contract that he got. He also was never a gold glover on defense. However, there was no reason to expect him to be as bad as he was the first half. He is coming around now to play more like the player that the FO expected when they signed him.
  10. Oh I know I wouldn't make a good GM. I get too attached to the players. I would never be able to let anyone go.
  11. I like what Dombrowski has done so far in terms of the FO realignment. I was afraid he would go too far in the old school direction, but so far, that doesn't seem to be the case. I also like that he seems committed to Castillo, JBJ, and Betts in the outfield. I have my concerns about him, and it remains to be seen what he does this offseason, but so far, so good.
  12. I have been wondering why there is even a need to hire a GM. Dombrowski is the GM, plain and simple, so why spend money on someone to hold a position in title only? You're probably right. It will either be a good friend of Dombrowski's or someone promoted from within. I've been hearing Hazen's name lately.
  13. Castillo has looked good in LF. I agree that Castillo in LF, JBJ in RF, and Mookie in CF looks like our best alignment. That being said, I think we could go with just about any alignment of those three in the OF and they'd be very good.
  14. Do you not see an improvement in Sandoval's defense the 2nd half?
  15. I know you have to give up good players to get good players, and I know we need pitching, but I would hate to see any of our current big league kids get traded.
  16. It really does. I would have started it, but my run just ended. Come on people!
  17. Until the numbers say otherwise, the playoff are still possible. Probable, no, but possible, yes. I agree with Pedroia that that's the way all the guys should look at it. I wouldn't want to play with a teammate who thinks any other way.
  18. FWIW, I have been very impressed with Xander's defense this season. Both his UZR/150 and his DRS say that he is above average overall defensively. Fangraphs still has his range about 3 runs below average though. That said, you can't put too much stock into one season's defensive numbers. We'll have to see how this trends over the next couple of seasons.
  19. I wasn't expecting him to be a good outfielder, but I was expecting him to be decent, meaning that his offense would be good enough to overcome whatever defensive shortcomings he would have. You're taking an athlete who could play SS well enough not to be an overall liability to his team, and moving him to one of the easiest positions on the defensive spectrum. You would expect see an improvement, or at the very least not see any dropoff from where he was.
  20. I could stat you on that, but I don't want to upset CP. That stats say his range is below average.
  21. This is another statement whic is true only in hindsight. The strategy was good because that's how you build bullpens. You have a good closer and a good set up guy, then bring in a bunch of other relievers and see what sticks. The problem for the Sox this year is that no one stuck. Which is another enigma.
  22. I didn't get it either.
  23. I still don't think it was poor planning. It was a good plan that went very bad on both the offensive and defensive fronts. He should have been capable of playing a decent LF, and he should be one of the best hitters in baseball.
  24. Poor Dustin. The man gets no love.
  25. More power to you. I'm often on an island with my opinions. I don't mind it one bit.
