  1. I have always preferred acquiring players for "just money" versus having to give up prospects plus money. I certainly hope that Dombrowski will not sell the farm this offseason. That said, I think that the Sox have enough spare parts that they could deal and still keep their farm system relatively intact. Also, I am really wary of signing Price to the type of contract it will likely take to sign him, not that I would complain if the Sox do sign him. I hate the Hot Stove season. It's so stressful for me. LOL
  2. LOL Garbage time nothing! We are on an all important quest for 3rd place! Let's go!
  3. Go figure. Our stinky pen pitches 9 innings of shut out ball. Woohoo!
  4. LOL Consecutive errors by Machado on Bogaerts' at bats. Pile on Sox! Thorne is not nearly as annoying when the Os are losing.
  5. I would prefer that we add 2 starting pitchers myself, but I think we'd be okay adding just a #1. #1/Buchholz/Porcello/Rodriguez/whoever really doesn't look bad at all. That said, there must be enough quality depth to step up in the case of injury/underperformance.
  6. Congrats to the Cubbies. I can't stand Maddon, but I'm pulling for Theo and Lester. The Cubs will have their hands full with the Pirates in the wilcard game in Pittsburgh.
  7. It really is tragic. Another reason why that stat is so stupid. No pitcher has deserved a win more than Breslow did today!
  8. A complete pitching overhaul is not needed. A #1 pitcher is needed. That does not constitute a complete pitching overhaul. The BP does need a near complete overhaul, that I will grant you. Regardless, this team is set up in good shape for the next several years. You have to be able to see past the short term of the past 2 years to realize that Ben is not the boob that many think he is.
  9. A little known rule in baseball: OverTheMonster 2m Pretty sure there are rules dictating that if a team wins a game started by Craig Breslow they're automatically put in first place.
  10. Breslow has a no-no going through one.....
  11. Speaking of GMs, for anyone who couldn't wait to get rid of him, Theo is still THE MAN.
  12. I wasn't trying to compare Shaw to Middlebrooks as hitters, but rather I was just trying to point out that hitters can look very good in a small sample, only to struggle in a larger sample. I don't know what the answer will be. I won't be upset if Shaw is given the job. I also won't be upset if Hanley is given the job if the FO determines that he is capable of playing the position defensively. Lovullo and Dombrowski have both indicated that they think he can. I have serious doubts about that, but I will defer to the expertise of the powers that be. Whichever route they decide to go, I just don't think it's a position that they need to spend a lot of additional money on.
  13. Shaw has definitley made his bid. That said, I'm not convinced that Hanley is gone next season. He could be, but he could also be the Sox starting 1B next season, with Shaw being Plan B.
  14. I don't want to disappoint you.
  15. lol
  16. I LOL'd Bellhorn's comment because it was funny.
  17. Despite what most people think, Cherington left this francise in very good shape for years to come. If Dombrowski makes the right moves this offseason to acquire the pitching that we need, while not dismantling the farm, we will be contending for a title next season and for years to come. Most fans just don't have the patience to wait for a long term process to pan out. Not to mention that during that long term process, we won a World Series ring.
  18. Breslow will impress, I have no doubt. Go Sox!!!
  19. Just because the Os feed did not do it justice, here is a link to Mookie's catch. The NESN feed covered it so much better, from several different angles, including a nice shot of the now famous bullpen policeman. Not to mention that Orsillo's call of the play was so much better than Thorne's. http://m.mlb.com/bos/video/topic/vtp_player_tracking/v502563183/bal-bos-betts-goes-83-feet-to-make-a-great-catch
  20. Shaw is certainly making his bid for a big league roster spot. I love what he has done since being called up. I am just hesitant about giving him the full time job based on his AAA numbers and such a short sample in the bigs. I think he could do the job, but I also think there needs to be a viable Plan B at first base in case Shaw turns into Middlebrooks 2.0. If Hanley can stick at 1B, Shaw would be a great backup and defensive replacement.
  21. You should try something positive for a change. Really shock the board! LOL
  22. lol
  23. Dombrowski stated earlier that he values continuity, which IMO, is the only reason he "promoted" Hazen to GM. To me, it feels like a move for show more than anything else right now. Wren will no doubt be Dombrowski's right hand man. Apparently, Dombrowski is making a lot of changes within the scouting and player evaluation areas. That doesn't sound like much "continuity" to me.
  24. LOL You guys are cracking me up about Breslow.
  25. His hammy is improved, but he is still feeling it. It may or may not affect how he pitches, but it's something I'd be wary about.
