  1. That's the thing about long contracts. The quality of the player on the field will eventually decline.
  2. LOL I am, but it's been difficult now that it's the postseason.
  3. Wow, this has been one of the craziest innings in baseball.
  4. No, that was not me reading what I wanted to see, it was me reading and trying to post at close to 10 pm on a weeknight. Pablo or Porcello, the point stands. Their contracts being bad in the first year does not make handing out a huge contract to Price any better of an idea. It's not my money either. I will be thrilled if we sign Price. I just don't like hearing criticism of the FO for not signing someone like Price, then hearing criticism from the same people for signing someone like Price when the contract goes south.
  5. I really, really wish that Maddon were not a part of that team. I'm glad to see the other 3 series go to game 5. Good stuff. I would be a nervous wreck if I were a fan of any of those teams.
  6. Well, I just can't let stuff like that fly.
  7. Hanley's and Pablo's contracts have been terrible to date, and are a good example of how a team can be handcuffed once the contract turns bad. While the chances are good that Price will live up to his contract in the early years, there is no guarantee of that either. Hanley's and Pablo's contracts being terrible are not going to make signing Price to a ludicrous deal any better of an idea. Just to be clear, I am not opposed to signing Price. I would love to have him on the team. But I will still shudder at his contract.
  8. Then you do not know that the data came from Fenway's rigged radar guns. Again, I am pretty sure that it did not.
  9. I'm not sure what the source of his data is. It could be a source that is not using Pitch/FX. Why, I don't know. The point about the use of Pitch/FX is an important and valid one. He knows Pitch/FX does not use radar guns because I posted that not too long ago to explain that there is pitch velocity data is no longer tainted by inconsistently calibrated radar guns.
  10. He was worth 1.5 WAR, with having only played 84 games. And his offense was pretty bad the first half of the year. Considering the situation that he was thrown into, he did a very admirable job.
  11. No, I said I am pretty sure. I can't be sure without knowing what the source of your stat is.
  12. It makes me shudder because I know what tends to happen at the back end of such contracts. And because the contract is so large, the team will be more or less stuck with it, and a potential "black hole" in the rotation for 2-3 years. Short term he should be fine. Long term he could handcuff the team.
  13. It would be very good. At this point, I think we need to take everything that Dombrowski says with a grain of salt, but it sounds like he will be looking to add one top of the rotation starter, plus several relievers, including a potential closer as a back up for Koji.
  14. I forgot about Price and Cueto not being eligible for a qualifying offer. Good point. I still shudder at the thought of the contract that he will receive.
  15. From a business standpoint, I shudder at the thought of giving Price the type of contract that he will likely command. Plus the draft pick, as you mentioned. However, as a fan, I'd love to have him on the team. I tend to think that our #1 is going to come via trade rather than free agency.
  16. Great game going on at Wrigley.
  17. I don't have anything against the Cardinals, per se, other than they've won so many times. Plus, I have a soft spot in my heart for Theo and Lester. I really hope the Cubs are the NL team in the WS. Between the Dodgers and the Mets, I prefer the Mets. As far as the AL goes, I am good with any of the teams.
  18. Hi Kit! Welcome!
  19. Wouldn't it be cool if all four series went 5 games? I wonder when the last time that happened was.
  20. That really is kind of stupid.
  21. I suppose if the offer is one he couldn't refuse, he'd come back. I give you permission to negotiate with him.
  22. Swihart did an admirable job considering that he was thrown into the fire a full year before he was expected to be in the bigs. He had to learn on the job this year. Also, he is only 23 years old. From what I understand, catchers usually don't hit their stride defensively until several years later. He should be very good defensively. That said, I prefer a defensively elite catcher behind the plate. If Vazquez shows he is healthy, I like the Vazquez/Hanigan tandem. At the same time, I do not want Swihart to be traded.
  23. I'm not sure where you got that stat, but I'm pretty sure that it didn't come from Fenway's "fast rigged gun".
  24. They don't bother me as much as they used to, but they still bother me. Having to listen to their obnoxious fans when they win is the worst. The best thing about the Yankees losing is that the obnoxiousness disappears.
