  1. Last night's game really stunk. It ended our quest for .500.
  2. I agree Spud. And while we're at it, we need a rule against crooked caps!
  3. LOL mvp. Some of the things you post are just so wrong, and yet so funny.
  4. This is a fair point.
  5. Statisticians do everything possible to eliminate human error and bias. They will never be able to be 100% free from error or bias, but implying that the data is corrupt is nonsense. First off, statisticians will readily admit when there is any kind of noise in their data. Secondly, they are frequently testing how reliable their data is and making improvements from it. If the data is not reliable, they typically don't publish or use it. And if one statistician or group publishes some data, you can be darn sure that it is being cross-checked and re-tested by other statisticians. No stat is perfect, but seriously, the newer stats like UZR are very good, despite the flaws. UZR and +/- are head over heels better than fielding percentage or errors. I can also guarantee you, though I have no proof, that the stats are less biased than the scouts are.
  6. And what the heck Gibbons? This is no time to be resting your players!!! Don't you know that there is a very important battle for 3rd place going on? Thanks for nothing.
  7. Very nice game thread run VA. Taking 6 out of 7 from the much hated Os and the even more hated Yankees was very enjoyable.
  8. There is no correlation between how a team plays in September, or in the last week or two of the season, and postseason success. In other words, momentum means nothing entering the postseason. The adage that the playoffs are a crapshoot is true.
  9. I am sure that you and everyone else is right that Rodriguez will be in the starting rotation to open the season next year. He deserves it and I have no issue with that. However, I would have no issue with him beginning the season in AAA either, as opposed to getting rid of a couple of our good pitchers because there is no room for them on the roster, then not having the quality replacement pitcher when needed. Let's say Dombrowski signs a #1, then trades Miley or Kelly and does not pick up Buchholz's option. Our rotation would be #1, Rodriguez, Porcello, Owens, Miley/Kelly. Who fills in when one of those guys inevitably needs a DL stint? Heaven forbid 2 of our starters get injured because that depth looks really thin.
  10. I agree with all of the above posts! Go Red Sox!!!
  11. We're talking brownies. I think it's impossible to go wrong, regardless of temperature or piece selection.
  12. Why wait for them to cool? Warm brownies are the best, as are warm cupcakes.
  13. Shaw is the man! Nuff said.
  14. Either Kelly or Miley are likely trade candidates. But there's also a good chance that Kelly goes to the BP. Again, I would put Rodriguez in AAA if we have too many starters. We would have two new pitchers, Buchholz, Porcello, and Miley in the rotation to start the season. Rodriguez and Owens as depth when needed. Another poster pointed out that he would also sign Hill, and worry about having too many pitchers later. I tend to agree with that.
  15. I am not defending Hanley's play or whether he was worth his contract. He was terrible this year. I am defending all of the unfounded accusations that he refused to play first base, that he was a cancer, that he faked injuries, that he quit on the team, etc. Criticize his play all you want. The criticism on his character this past year is nothing more than speculation, based on people's interpretation when "reading between the lines".
  16. We must not give up our 3rd place position! Go Sox!!!
  17. Porcello pitched great after the first inning. Sometimes, it just takes a pitcher an inning to settle in.
  18. Poor Hanley is so misunderstood. And IMO, false accused of not wanting to play 1B. No one said that he will definitely be much more productive next season, but there is a very good chance that he will be. I get that no one wants him back next season. He is being paid a lot of money for negative production, plus the team has played so much better recently without him. However, I don't think that he deserves all the vitriol that is being spewed his way.
  19. Ben turned down the opportunity to interview with the Mariners. It's not like there aren't any teams who are interested in him.
  20. If Buchholz is healthy, picking up his option is a done deal. Last I heard was that if Buch comes out of his next BP session with no pain, then the option will be picked up.
  21. VA for president! Let's keep it going! Go Sox!!!
  22. Unfortunately, the Sox have been officially eliminated. So sad.
