  1. LOL Thunder pulling out the old "jinx". Works almost every time.
  2. Keep the good vibes rolling! Go Sox!
  3. And really, Porcello did not pitch that badly, all things considered. He had a K/W ratio of 7/1, which I'll take any day of the week. The Jays are a powerhouse offense. Donaldson and Bautista will hit almost any pitcher well. Porcello dominated the rest of the lineup, really.
  4. It does already feel different from last year. Last year, being down by 4 runs, or even 2 runs, there was no confidence in the offense to come back. I believe it was Pete Abraham who said that with the risk of going all nutty so early, this team has a 2013 feel to it. I was thinking the same thing after Friday's come back win. All that said, you cannot assess or base anything off of four games, good or bad. While I am really excited about how this offense has started off, I know they are not going to score an average of 7 runs/game. Likewise, I also know that Buchholz, Kelly, and Porcello are not going to have ERAs of 6, 11.25, and 21, respectively. People, do not jump off of the Tobin yet with regards to our starting pitching.
  5. The Os and the Nats are wimps. What do you expect?
  6. Yes, there is a lot of gray area, and IMO, the umpires need to use some better judgment with that ruling. I have nothing against a rule to try to protect players. But goodness, the players have to be allowed to play the game. And they have to be allowed to play hard, without fear of losing a game because they did not "control their slide". In the middle of a late inning rally, a player running to 2nd base is not going to be thinking about slowing down and sliding early so that he makes sure he doesn't overslide the bag. That's just silly. Should we then make a rule where outfielders are not allowed to run into the wall when attempting to catch a fly ball? For their own safety? We certainly don't want them getting injured either. I hate seeing injuries, but they're part of any sport. Let the players play the game.
  7. That was a very good game. Consider me a huge Kershaw fan.
  8. I understand all that. Let me clarify. I am not against the idea of trying to prevent "dirty" slides to keep middle infielders from getting injured. I am against the lack of judgment or common sense that has been used in these calls, particularly Rasmus' slide. The umpires made the correct call, according to the way the rule is stated. I can't argue that. But seriously, ending the game on a double play under this rule, when turning the DP was never going to be turned regardless of the slide, is ridiculous. There was no "dirty" slide there either. There has to be room for better judgment on that play. As it stands, the rule is not serving its intended purpose.
  9. There are a lot of good things happening with this team. The BP has allowed 2 hits and 0 runs in about 10 innings against arguably the most potent offense in baseball. The offense has scored 28 runs in 4 games. Porcello's overall line was not great, but it was decent. Considering the only real damage was from Donaldson and Bautista, who many pitchers struggle against, Porcello pitched very well against the rest of the line up. The calls to start Shaw and Holt are looking very good right now. Those two players are awesome! This team has shown a lot of energy and fight early. They are fun to watch.
  10. Ben says you're welcome!
  11. It's early, and maybe once the players get a better feel for the second base slide rule it won't seem so bad, but right now, I am really not liking it. I understand the need to try to protect the middle infielders from injury. Utley's slide last year was blatant, and that type of slide should be called. But I think umpires have to use reasonable judgment on that call. Baserunners need to be able to break up the double play. That's part of baseball.
  12. My ExtraInnings has the game time listed as 7:27.
  13. I blame Dombrowski for the whole Castillo fiasco.
  14. Yes, let's all call the season for Buchholz after one start.
  15. I always like it when the Yankees lose an early game.
  16. Can you believe it? An actual Red Sox game tonight! Go Sox!
  17. I do not believe it is humanly possible to do that.
  18. Ha. More like Ben knew what he was doing all along.
  19. Castillo may not be dead, but he really isn't going to have a chance to improve if he's not playing everyday. There is no benefit to Castillo in having him sit on the bench. If he's not going to be an everyday player for the Red Sox, he needs to be sent down.
  20. It's kind of like Newton's Third Law.
  21. This sums it up pretty well. Great game all around.
  22. Thank you.
  23. 1. Yes, $$/WAR is from Fangraphs. I do not agree that it's a silly metric. Despite what each team's market is, the $$/WAR is an accurate reflection of how much a win cost through free agency. 2. Thank you for the information. I am pretty familiar with the way Fangraphs calculates WAR, much less so with B-R's and BP's WAR (or WARP). That's something I need to read up on when I get the chance. I did find it interesting that bWAR, even though it makes an adjustment for defense, begins by charging the pitcher for both earned and unearned runs. I would like to clarify that I was not trying to knock Price, if that's the impression that you got from that post. I am confident that he will be worth his contract at least in the early years. 3. Wow, I absolutely did misread that. It's reassuring to know B-R's WAR did not value him so low. My bad.
  24. DVR the game, like I do. That way you don't have to sit through commercials.
  25. I've been looking forward to this game all day, only to get home from work to find out it's been cancelled. Oh well, Mariners and Rangers will have to do.
