  1. I would have to agree with this sentiment.
  2. Once upon a time, our bench was one of our strengths.....
  3. So inverted "S" stands for "awesome"? LOL at Smyly. Let's go Kelly! Go Sox!
  4. The trade for Carson Smith was a very good trade. Props to Dave on that one. Hope he comes back soon.
  5. I believe we're 6-6, not 7-7. Not that it much matters except that I was going to post that we were 7-5 after 12 games last year. #BringBackBen! Seriously though we've faced some tough competition and it's not like our team has looked overmatched. Our team looks pretty good, if you ask me.
  6. These are the kinds of games that really hurt. It figures that when we get a very strong starting pitching performance, our pen and our offense (somewhat) let us down. UGH Very frustrating because we could have swept the Jays, and should have at least won 3. Oh well. The good news is that we have seen some pretty good starting pitching performances in this last turn. Still too soon to determine anything, but it's encouraging.
  7. I'm glad you watched it and can appreciate a great sports moment, even if it involved a team that you do not like. It's kind of like Jeter's last game. As much as I dislike the Yankees, as a baseball fan, I have to appreciate that moment for him.
  8. We are discussing Swihart, but the philosophy of showing some patience really applies to all three. Think of all the players that fans have wanted benched or that fans were sure were washed up, but the manager stuck with them, and they ended up being really good.
  9. It was clear that the Sox would want Vazquez as their starting catcher eventually. Just not 8 games into the regular season. They said many times that they would not rush Vazquez back. They said repeatedly that Vazquez needed more reps after being out of baseball for a year. That in no way sounds like an 8 game venture.
  10. SK does humor just fine. I thought his post was funny. What's not funny is all the Fat Pablo jokes.
  11. I retract all of my "Pablo hate" posts and apologize to anyone who I offended by them. I was wrong to make that assumption.
  12. Commenting on him being out of shape and how that might impact his ability to field his position are fair game. Many of the other comments have been unfair.
  13. According to ESPN's Home Run Tracker, 99 mph.
  14. 1. We had and still have Koji, who has arguably been as dominant as Kimbrel so far. It was a very good move to get another closer due to Koji's age and last year's injury. However, saying we had a very serious and immediate need at closer is hyperbole. 2. I will put my posts in the thread of the post I am responding to.
  15. The problem with getting Young into games, as a very astute friend of mine pointed out way back when Young was signed, is that there just aren't that many left handed starters in our division, who roughly 45% of our games are against.
  16. Wright did his job. The BP and the offense, not so much. Go figure. You have to give credit to Sanchez. He dominated our lineup. Oh well, win tomorrow and all will be well!
  17. I don't get it. I also don't understand why Farrell (and other managers) decide to rest 3-4 of their starters on the same day. Wakefield used to get the B lineup all the time.
  18. Yes, it's speculation. And I can see why the Sox would sign Pablo, though I did not think it was a good move. Ben might have gone along with ownership's desire to sign Pablo. Or ownership might have simply insisted that Ben make some splashy signings since they were not signing any big name starting pitchers. I strongly believe, however, that if Ben had the autonomy that Dombrowski has, Pablo would not have been signed.
  19. If the team wins the WS this year, then the "win now" mentality is absolutely worth it. If they don't, then things remain to be seen. Also, the "long-term" might be as soon as later this season. The moves of starting Shaw and Holt, and calling up Vazquez, look very good right now. A lot can happen between now and August. Anyway, I'm very happy with the way this team is playing right now. That's the bottom line.
  20. I do not disagree with this at all.
  21. I am not arguing who is the better option at catcher. I've said many times, going back to last year, my preference is Vazquez. I am also not arguing against the decision to call Vazquez up and send Swihart down. I'm just questioning that it was done after only 8 games.
  22. Your opinion is pure speculation also. Perhaps if this move were made in and of itself, I would be more likely to believe the "plan" based on service time. Taken with the big picture of other "aggressive" moves that have been made, along with the FO's sense of urgency this year, it looks more reactionary than anything else. No worries though. This will end up being a good move.
  23. Umm no. Perhaps you're the one that's wrong? Seriously? You think that teams should make moves after 8 games? Dustin Pedroia says hello! I don't think there's a person on this board who is more against long term guaranteed contracts than I am. What does that have to do with showing some patience and giving a player a fair chance?
  24. The thing is, you can determine nothing after 8 games. On your second count, I agree. This move will benefit the team and Swihart. It's still a reactionary move.
  25. We don't know that. And I am in no way saying that I'm unhappy with Vazquez being called up. Given the choice between the two, Vazquez has always been my guy. I have no way of knowing for sure, but I would be willing to bet that if Swihart had played well, which means the pitching staff had pitched well also, Swihart would still be up. I think most people would agree with that, if they're being honest.
