  1. A+ post. I have nothing to add.
  2. Well, if the whole thing about service time is true, then perhaps it was a very rational and calculated decision. As you said though, the optics do not look good, especially knowing the setbacks that Weiters faced having been brought back too soon. I have to wonder whether Vazquez would have been called up so soon if the team were not having trouble preventing runs. Perhaps the service time thing is a convenient excuse?
  3. Agreed. I'm guessing that other teams, especially ones who are weak in the catching area, see a lot of value in Swihart.
  4. All early scouting reports said that he should develop into an above average defensive catcher. Many reports stated that he could be a better overall value than Vazquez when you couple that above average defense with his offense. Swihart has two things playing against him. 1. He was thrown into a difficult situation last season rather than being given the proper time to develop and improve defensively. 2. He will never be able to compare to Vazquez defensively, which doesn't mean that he's bad, just that Vazquez is that good. He just needs more time to hone his skills. Varitek sees him as an All-Star catcher. If Varitek sees it, it must be true!
  5. A voice of reason here. Getting Swihart some reps in LF is a good thing. The Sox are not saying that Swihart is done as a starting catcher, by any means. This could possibly be a way to eventually get Swihart and Vazquez both on the big league roster, carry 3 catchers, while maintaining versatility and depth on the bench.
  6. Keeping 3 catchers on the roster never made much sense. Since Vazquez was brought up, the only logical move would be sending Swihart down. Trading Hanigan at this point would be stupid. I love Vazquez. Last night's game, albeit only one game, was a showcase for why he needs to be our starting catcher. For that reason, I'm very happy to see him on the team. That said, the move to call him up still seems a little rash to me. It had only been 8 games.
  7. That was a great game all around. Good starting pitching, the bullpen doing its thing, nice offense from Vazquez in addition to his typical stellar defense, and even a stolen base from Papi. It doesn't get much better.
  8. Porcello ultimately has to make the pitches, but IMO, having a catcher that you trust and have confidence in makes all the difference in the world. Some of it will show up in the numbers, but much of it doesn't. Trusting what your catcher is calling for and not having to overthink, having confidence in throwing breaking balls and knowing your catcher will block the ones in the dirt, knowing that you don't have to be "perfect" in hitting your location and still get a strike, and not having to worry much about holding runners on first all have to have a fairly positive impact on the pitcher.
  9. I like it much better when the sky is falling in Yankeeland than in Red Sox Nation.
  10. Scully is in a class by himself. Extra Innings Package - Best Invention Ever!
  11. Ben's Babes are looking really good! He once again says you're welcome!
  12. Castillo was never given a fair chance. Not that I'm at all disappointed with Brock.
  13. Does nobody care about Kobe's career final game? I realize that he and the Lakers are the "enemy", but for those who are basketball fans, don't you have to give props to a great career and an great way to go out?
  14. I agree as well. I don't like the idea of ads on jerseys.
  15. Welcome! We will be very gently with you.
  16. At this point, putting Fat Pablo on the DL is the best thing for all parties involved. The FO and Farrell handled the entire Pablo situation very, very poorly.
  17. Swihart was thrown into a difficult situation last year, and he handled it very admirably. He could benefit from some more time in AAA to develop his defensive skills. It is far too early to close the book on him defensively.
  18. Do not get me started.....
  19. But when Rodriguez got hurt, it was supposed to be a 72 hour injury. It is turning into a 72 day injury.
  20. Improper use of CERA. You have to look at CERA pitcher by pitcher which means that you are likely to run into the problem of small sample size.
  21. The effect that a catcher can have on a pitcher is very real. Believe it.
  22. Picking up Clay's option was and remains a no brainer. Seriously, the decisions don't get much easier than that.
  23. If it's anyone's fault, it would be Dombrowski's. Or Henry's. Whoever is making the roster decisions, so my guess is Dombrowski with Henry's blessing. So yeah, both of them.
  24. Way too early to throw blame around and way too early to panic. Unfortunately, I think the FO is doing just that. The whole "sense of urgency" thing has translated into a lack of patience, aka "panic". Things may work out, but seriously, I don't know what they are thinking. They have me shaking my head right now.
