  1. I remember. He has said the same to me when I defended you.
  2. Ha. It's really difficult to throw $30 million more than any other team at a free agent. Try building a strong farm system, something that Dombrowski has not been able to do. #BaseballNapoleonComplex
  3. What does that have to do with anything?
  4. I am talking about the benching of Pablo and Castillo, along with the related release of Murphy.
  5. Henry only has himself to blame for most of that wasted money.
  6. Being an eternal optimist is better than the alternative.
  7. Actually, they are favorites to make the playoffs. Not THE favorite, but favorites. In most cases, as a WC team, but even as the division winner in some cases.
  8. It's not a love for Ben. It's a strong agreement with his overall philosophy of building baseball teams. Ben is gone because Henry panicked.
  9. Of course they will. It will actually take even longer to know the full effect of Ben's impact to this team.
  10. It may be smug, but IMO, they are acting rashly. Rash decisions are based on NOW, with little concern about future ramifications. I have said all along that I have concerns about Dombrowski's overall philosophy, in particular with the long term outlook of the team. Those concerns have not been allayed.
  11. You are making assumptions about how much work Pablo put in. And Pablo's terrible defensive numbers from last year strongly suggest some regression. He has actually made progress defensively in the last couple of games, in particular on coming in on those slow rollers. Of course, no one bothers to mention that. The point is, for many reasons, it is in the team's best interest and well worth giving him 1-2 months to sink or swim. If he fails and is then benched, the same message is still sent.
  12. If Pablo and Castillo were starting and were playing like All Stars, we still only have Young, Holt, Shaw, and Hanigan on the bench. Regardless of the contracts of Pablo and Castillo, there is only room for one middle infielder on the bench. So once again, no clog. And the fact that Pablo and Castillo still have multiple years left on their contracts is exactly why they needed to be given a chance to prove themselves in real games. None of you, including Farrell, Dombrowski, and Henry, are considering long term ramifications. Panic, panic, panic.
  13. This is the reason they should have kept Murphy, so that Castillo could be sent to AAA.
  14. I don't know where the recent great Dojji posts are coming from, but I like it. In addition to weakening the bench by making Holt a starter, Pablo is virtually useless as a bench player.
  15. Of course we're not clogged. Having to eat large contracts is not something that any team should get into the habit of doing. It's terrible business. But the philosophy that Henry and Dombrowski are currently operating under means that there are no clogs. Just another excuse to gripe about Ben. #BringBenBack
  16. Sure, but why was he willing to do that? Because he knew that doing so would not cripple the team long term because of the cost-controlled players that are currently on the team and the ones that are 1-3 years away.
  17. They are "clogging them up" even more by not giving Pablo and Castillo a chance. It might be a different story if they were in the last year of their contracts, but they aren't. Regardless, you are the one that's always saying that the Red Sox are a big market team and that they won't be hamstrung by big contracts.
  18. The "totally wrong headed philosophy" happens to be the right philosophy. It just didn't work out. Regardless of whether you agree with the philosophy or not, the moves that Ben made or did not make were mandated by Henry. He is the one who did not want Ben to sign an aging pitcher to a large contract, though I'm sure Ben agreed with that philosophy. Henry did an about face with his philosophy this offseason. He panicked, as is his MO.
  19. Correct. Henry knew that Dombrowski would be aggressive, but I don't believe he thought that aggressiveness would manifest itself this way.
  20. Sorry, but I can't believe that Henry envisioned both Castillo and Pablo being benched on Opening Day.
  21. The moves that Dombrowski made this offseason were only possible because of the strength of our farm system. Henry was able to give the go ahead for Price's contract because of the cost-controlled players that we have. The long term contracts have not yet prohibited other moves from being made. Despite what a700 says, they are not blocking the prospects. And as UN pointed out, Porcello, Hanley, and Castillo could still be worth the money. None of those contracts are unreasonable.
  22. I'm not so sure about that one Bell. I think Henry likely gave Dombrowski the power to do what he sees fit, but I think the approach stems from Dombrowski.
  23. Why would it be a surprise if the Sox make the playoffs? Questionable decisions aside, it's still a very good team. And Ben once again says "you're welcome".
  24. If he's not starting, he absolutely needs to be in AAA. And that being the case, releasing Murphy was a stupid thing to do.
