  1. ESPN Sunday Night games have to go. It's 10:00, and we're in the 4th inning.
  2. Price is not pitching. Five runs will be enough.
  3. What boneheads are you talking about?
  4. Shaw has looked very good defensively, IMO. The metrics say he has been very good, although you really can't take anything from 3 weeks worth of data. OTOH, there is reason to be less optimistic about his offense. His K rate and his BABIP both say beware of when he returns to earth.
  5. The Sox, recognizing their weakness in developing pitchers, hired Brian Bannister to be the Director of Pitching Analytics and Development. Rich Hill is supposedly a Bannister "product". I don't think the Sox are going to mess Espinoza up, and I think we'll see better success in drafting and developing pitchers in the coming years.
  6. Amazing. I think that has been the Astros problem this year.
  7. It's been a rough 2 weeks for some. Perhaps the rest of the rotation and bullpen and Farrell will settle in nicely just as Price and Kimbrel will. Point being, it's too early to start making rash moves.
  8. Ultimately, yes. But that doesn't change the point about whether a signing was a smart move at the time it happened. And if you're going to evaluate a deal in hindsight, then wait until the end of the deal. We are only 1 month into a 4 year deal.
  9. FredLynn, I believe it was you who was arguing for Porcello in one of the game threads. I did not get a chance to respond at the time, but I agree with you. I made many of the same arguments at the time he was signed that you did, about him being a #2 pitcher in 2014. Unfortunately, no one agree with me. I contend to this day that his extension was a good deal, if you take your hindsight glasses off.
  10. Trading Clay would not be a wise move.
  11. Don't ever, EVER, mess with mojo.
  12. It's odd, really. If Price and Kimbrel had been their usual selves in their outings in which we lost, the pitching would not look nearly as bad. If I recall correctly, I think that would be a difference of 3 games in the W-L column? Don't get me wrong, I'm not the least bit worried about either of them, but had we won those games, big difference.
  13. Hey PINSTRIPEZAC! Your favorite Red Sox fan is here!
  14. Actually, only one. But it would be unfair to single out that one.
  15. Hi King. It stinks that the Globe is shutting down its forums. That said, there are a lot of good posters there whom I have missed and would love to be able to post with again. I've noticed a lot of familiar names popping up at the bottom of the main page. I haven't been here that long myself, a little over a year. I have to say that all of the members here were very welcoming when I joined and they made me feel right at home. They are an awesome and knowledgeable group. And to the long time posters and mods (who are awesome), I can also vouch for the BDC members who are looking for a new home. They are a good group and knowledgeable too. Welcome!
  16. And this is why I have repeatedly said that you are an awesome mod. I'm not just blowing smoke either, as we all know that I don't do that.
  17. Ha. 90 wins baby! You heard it here first!
  18. Not only that, but Shaw did a great job of deking Altuve into thinking that a play was not going to be made.
  19. I agree that it would be difficult to carry two weak bats in a line up, but that depends on a lot of factors. At any rate, it is too early to pull to consider pulling the plug on either of those guys. Personally, I am willing to sacrifice offense for their elite defense.
  20. Indeed it was a no brainer to pick up his option. No matter how bad Buchholz may pitch this year, that will not change the no brainerness of that decision.
  21. I thought Young was a good pickup, mainly in case Castillo failed. Castillo should have been given the chance at the job before handing it over to Holt. With Holt being our starting LFer instead of being our supersub, our roster construction is really a mess.

    The Cubs

OK, this really cracked me up for some reason.
  23. Please, NO on the unbanning of former posters. Seriously.
