Believe me, I didn't like that call anymore than you did. That's an example of an umpire that needs to be reprimanded.
As far as that blown call costing the Sox the game, you don't know that. You don't know what would have happened afterwards. I have always believed that blaming a game on one play, one managerial decision, or one bad call is kind of pointless because there are far too many moments in the game that affect the outcome.
Now I'm not saying that the bad call didn't rob the Sox of a chance, but I am saying that it didn't cost the Sox the game.
As I said, I didn't like it any more than you did, but to me, it's part of the game.
