  1. On the topic of BABIP, the Sox team BABIP is currently .347. There have only ever been two teams that have gone an entire season with a BABIP over .330. More recently, the highest team BABIP over a season is .327, IIRC. So yes, the offense is going to regress. However, the regression should not be too significant. In other words, this offense will regress to being merely very good instead of being historically good.
  2. There was a good point brought up in a couple of articles that I read regarding the team's high BABIP being in part due to the high rate at which our hitters are hitting balls to the opposite field. They are beating the shifts more often, and it just becomes more difficult to defend against.
  3. I believe I read today that JBJ said that he is far too relaxed to be superstitious. JBJ seems like the type who would just shrug it off too. I, OTOH, would not move JBJ to leadoff in the middle of this streak, because I am superstitious, though my rational side tells me that that is just silly. However, if JBJ goes hitless tonight, I will not blame Farrell.
  4. I feel good about this game. Clay and the offense will get it done! Go Sox!
  5. Dombrowski gets a lot of credit for the roster moves that he has made. He's playing mostly with Theo's and Ben's pieces, but he is playing those pieces very well. The decision to put Hanley at 1B has worked out much better than I ever imagined.
  6. That's a fair point. Castillo is not helping his cause any. I like Swihart in left field, I just don't like the idea of giving up on him as a catcher. Not saying the FO is doing that, but IMO, he needs to be getting everyday reps at catcher if he's going to develop at that position.
  7. It kept the Sox from overpaying for another starter who likely wouldn't have been as good as Buchholz is when he's Good Buchholz. Again, the injury to Rodriguez threw a kink in the plans too.
  8. I do not disagree with any of this. I don't see the Sox putting Clay in the pen, however. IMO, if Clay stinks again in his next outing and Rodriguez shows he's ready to be called up, Clay will be DL'd. If Clay pitches well, Rodriguez will stay in AAA a little longer.
  9. It was a no brainer.
  10. MVP and UN, I have not seen anything that said that the Sox offered Buchholz to the Mariners and the Mariners said no.
  11. Clay is not living up to his option as of now, but no one is going to convince me that picking up his option was not the right move. The same goes for extending Porcello.
  12. Not buying that. IMO, the Sox were not willing to part with Clay without another viable, reasonably priced pitcher available. It is my belief that they had no better option without paying through the nose for someone.
  13. They wouldn't have traded Clay until they acquired another starter. I'm sure they looked into acquiring one, and deemed the cost too high. Again, having Clay allowed them the luxury of not having to overpay for another starter.
  14. Still feeling good about this series. Go Sox!
  15. I thought the article in the Herald yesterday about Sox fans being miserable was funny. Unfortunately, there's a lot of truth to it for some.
  16. I always thought that Castillo should have been our regular left fielder to start the season. It's in the team's best interest to figure out exactly what they have in him, whether their intent is to keep him or trade him. Not to mention that Holt serves the team much better as a super utility guy.
  17. I would not be the least bit surprised if that is what happened.
  18. Clay's $13 mil for one year should not have been a deciding factor in picking up another starter. The fact that another pitcher was not picked up tells me that there were none available for a price that the FO was willing to pay. Having Clay made it possible for the Sox not to have to overpay for another starter.
  19. I would agree that Buchholz should be the one to get the boot from the rotation, as of now. It just sounded like one of the starters would go to the BP, and I don't think Clay is suited for that role.
  20. I would like to say in Slasher's defense that he is not a troll.
  21. The problem is not in picking up Clay's option. The problem is in not having a solid Plan B to fall back on should Clay falter, which was a very real possibility. Picking up Clay's option should not have precluded having a viable Plan B. I think Rodriguez suffering such a long term injury added to the problem.
  22. I knew there was a reason I've always liked you.
  23. No, sabermetric nerds would look at stats like FIP and BABIP and realize that Price is due for a turn in fortune.
  24. And that is the bottom line.
  25. I really liked this trade for the Sox. It stinks that Smith won't be able to contribute this year, but as others mentioned, the Sox still have several years of control on him. The pen has been holding its own without Smith, so I don't see adding a reliever as a dire need right now. Once Rodriguez is healthy, it sounds like one of the starters will be moved to the pen. After Kelly's last start, I can't imagine that it would be him unless he falters again. Nor would I think it would be Wright.
