  1. There's no stopping that UN mojo! Wright's got this! The offense will be on a mission after last night. Go Sox!!!
  2. Wasn't Thunder banned once before from making game threads? LOL
  3. They said that they were having technical difficulties with it. Just Say No to Robot Umps.
  4. As does this statement.
  5. Believe me, I didn't like that call anymore than you did. That's an example of an umpire that needs to be reprimanded. As far as that blown call costing the Sox the game, you don't know that. You don't know what would have happened afterwards. I have always believed that blaming a game on one play, one managerial decision, or one bad call is kind of pointless because there are far too many moments in the game that affect the outcome. Now I'm not saying that the bad call didn't rob the Sox of a chance, but I am saying that it didn't cost the Sox the game. As I said, I didn't like it any more than you did, but to me, it's part of the game.
  6. The Lackey trade looks really, really bad. And yes, that one is on Ben.
  7. The Sox are going to go with a 4 man rotation until June 18, so that helps a little.
  8. Fortunately, the Sox do have the luxury of waiting to acquire more pitching help, though at times it may not feel like it. Teams are just not readily willing to part with any major league players, namely starting pitchers, of quality this early in the season. Dombrowski said today that he was ready to make a trade. Finding a trade partner, however, is a whole other story.
  9. It's not preventing fairness because every team and every player deals with the same human aspects of umpires.
  10. 100% agree with this post. Well said.
  11. He also gets extra credit for being the father of a newborn.
  12. That makes sense. You wonder when opposing pitchers are going to start "pitching around" those two in big spots. I guess it's kind of hard to do when virtually the entire lineup is hitting as well as they are.
  13. Well yeah, that goes without saying.
  14. Over time, robot umps would become a non-issue, just like every other change to the game, at least to the point where I could accept it. On a similar note, I am really not like the new 2nd base slide rule right now.
  15. And I have no problem with catchers being able to "trick" an umpire into calling a ball a strike. In fact, I like the idea that framing is such a skill. Most of those pitches are fairly close to the strike zone. No, it's not going to be as close as a robot, but such is the nature of human beings. Umps that are purposely making spite calls or performing below a certain standard should be replaced. If the umps were held more accountable, I think the error rate would improve. No, not to perfection, but to a level good enough where most of the missed calls would be borderline to begin with.
  16. They were extremely frustrating losses. It's tough for the offense to fight back, only to have the pitching staff squander it away again.
  17. Well, the Sox are now only on pace to win 96 games rather than 99 games. So yeah!
  18. Enough of this losing crap. Get it done boys. Go Sox!
  19. It's a matter of personal preference. Just because we prefer something different than you doesn't make us wrong or crazy.
  20. And I understand your point of view as well. Believe me, I don't like having an incorrect call go against the Sox. The game that we lost against the Yankees on that "spite" strike call against Ortiz ate me up.
  21. In terms of the strike zone being clearly defined, IMO, it goes back to holding umpires more accountable. If they were held to a certain, higher standard, the error rate would improve. No, it's never going to be as good as a it would be with a computerized zone, but I'm okay with that.
  22. Fair enough. Umpires making incorrect calls, ie human error, is part of the game for me. It's part of the sport. Just my personal preference.
  23. LOL I am far more a traditionalist in many ways than people think I am. In terms of the way the game is played on the field, I like it just the way it is and am opposed to making changes to it. I very likely would have been against the lowering of the pitcher's mound and the introduction of the DH had I been around when those changes were made. I did not like it when they got rid of the "fake to third, throw to first" play, as trivial as that might seem, and I am also opposed to the idea of not making a pitcher throw 4 balls if a manager calls for an intentional walk, to name a couple of examples. Baseball is a beautiful game. Leave it the way it is.
  24. The team who plays better often does not win, and that has nothing to do with the umpires.
  25. Of course they will. But I also enjoy the emotions that surface with the umpires.
