  1. He is awful. Unfortunately for me, the Os games are blacked out on Extra Innings and MLB.tv in my area. I have to watch all of the Sox/Os on MASN, which means 18,19 games of Thorne every year. I haven't noticed the name dropping thing, probably because I mostly tune him out. I'll have to pay closer attention to that.
  2. The news on ERod sounds promising. Hopefully, it was just a cramp. Then again, the initial news on his knee injury was that he was likely to be out for 72 hours. Stay tuned.... BTW, he was dominating for the short time he was in the game.
  3. Pomeranz was awesome in his last outing. Hopefully, he will continue pitching like that.
  4. What you hope for out of a spot starter is for him to go about 5 innings and keep the team in the game. Clay did that.
  5. Clay has fallen so far down that he has been moved to the BP. So yes, the expectation from him is no longer that of a #1 or #2, but rather to pitch well enough to give the team a chance. Not that I have lost hope with him, but I no longer have ace expectations with him. To be fair, the fact that he only pitched 4+ innings is not his fault. He has been in the pen and was no longer stretched out. He was on a pitch limit of about 65-70 pitches. He is now pitching as a spot starter. In that role, he did his job. Worth $13 mil? No, but he did his job for that start.
  6. Yeah, I was thinking that. I don't know if Bundy instead of Tillman is a good thing or not. Either way, Price needs to be our ace today.
  7. Yes, he can! Thank goodness for no more drama in the 9th! Have I mentioned how awful Thorne is? He is so much more bearable when the Os lose.
  8. What more can you say about Mookie. Love the guy!
  9. Abad has been awful for us. Despite getting his guy out in his last outing, I really don't like seeing him coming into games that are close. I would not have left him in for the 2nd batter, righty no less, after walking Davis on 4 straight pitches.
  10. The managers do have a lot more information at their disposal to make these decisions than we do. Most importantly, they are with these players day in and day out, and therefore, know these players better than any of the fans do. They also have way more major league experience than any of us do. That doesn't mean that they're always right. They make mistakes, just like any human being does. But it is really a stretch for anyone here to think that they know better than the manager does or for anyone to think that the manager is clueless.
  11. You are allowed to complain whenever you want, right or wrong, whether it works out or not. Just as I am allowed to disagree with you. Isn't that the point of these forums?
  12. If Ortiz was left in the game and got injured or couldn't play for a few days due to soreness, we'd never hear the end of how stupid Farrell was for not putting a pinch runner in for him. Managers often wait until a runner is in scoring position to make the call for a pinch runner. Farrell is not going to win no matter what he decides. You all already have your minds made up about it.
  13. When a pitcher is on the bases.
  14. 1. I have always believed that off field stuff is more important. 2. I have questioned many of his moves this season, including two in last night's game. 3. Will I give him a demerit for those moves that I questioned? No, because they don't make as big a difference as most people think they do, and because I will defer to the manager's knowledge over my own.
  15. Well, what do you know? Farrell managing the players like a good manager should.
  16. Showalter is right up there with Bobby V. Can't stand the Os. They must by taken down. Find a way to do it, just WIN!
  17. I agree with you. IMO, this is something that should change with the organizational philosophy of the team. Similar to players practicing their bunting skills, pitchers should practice base running skills from time to time.
  18. Yup. And as a couple of people mentioned, it was really a low move for Blanton to fake a throw 2nd to begin with.
  19. Outside of Pomeranz, there really was no other option. I'm guessing that Farrell has a fair reason for not choosing him.
  20. I can agree that Pomeranz was probably the better choice, and probably the only other option. That does not mean that putting Wright in was idiotic.
  21. Dempster was a class act all the way. I'd take him as part of my rotation any day of the week.
  22. Wright's injury was a fluke accident. You could probably make that call 99 more times, and it wouldn't happen again, regardless of how much base running experience he has. Or you could have had Dave Roberts out there in his prime, and he could have suffered the injury. Fluke. Nothing more. Wright is a professional athlete. He should be able to handle base running. His injury is not on Farrell.
