  1. I don't hate the Mets, but I don't particularly like them either. I'm a David Wright fan though. I saw him in a local HR Derby several years back, along with the Upton brothers and Michael Cuddyer. Good stuff. Cuddyer won.
  2. At the game mojo! Have a great time!
  3. I love the Olympics. I enjoy the human interest stories. I can't watch them all during the summer Olympics because baseball trumps any other tv watching, but I record the Olympics every night, then I can ff through all the ads and any of the human interest stories or preliminary heats that I don't want to watch. I can knock out 4 hours of telecast in about an hour and a half.
  4. Clay has looked pretty good working in relief. I've been a big Clay supporter, but I'm not sure I'm ready to trust him as a starter yet. At any rate, he likely won't get another start unless there's an injury.
  5. I can agree that they are our best 4 hitters, but I can't agree that they should necessarily be in the top 4 slots. I actually think that our top 5 and maybe even top 6 are good enough to be interchanged without losing much.
  6. I agree. It was like a double whammy with Kimbrel, an overpay in both prospects and money.
  7. As I said in another thread, I can't blame Dombrowski for the underperformances of the players. IMO, he overpaid for Price, Kimbrel, and Pomeranz, but acquiring an 'ace', a closer, and a solid middle rotation pitcher were all necessary. All 3 of those guys should have been upgrades. Were there other routes that Dombrowski could have taken instead of the ones he chose? Probably, but we don't know what those other routes were and how much they would have cost. At this point, it's all speculation and second guessing. All that said, I really think that Cherington should have been given more time to see his vision come to fruition.
  8. I agree that if we don't make the playoffs, Farrell is gone. I can't see him being fired during the season. No rebuild whatsoever for this team. Our core is in place with a couple more youngsters knocking on the door. We basically need to fortify our pitching and we are good to go.
  9. I think that that was the expectation.
  10. Thank you. I'm not a big fan of Dombrowski's 'sense of urgency' philosophy, but the players that he added to this team should have all improved the team. Whether they perform up to expectations or not is beyond his control.
  11. I agree with this post 100%.
  12. Needless to say, you can't base anything off of 3 games, but he has looked very good. I'd get him in as much as possible, at least until Young returns.
  13. LOL #Clayforstarter
  14. I think we may see Betts hitting 3rd this year, maybe even as soon as this homestand. Farrell is toying with the idea, and the offense is in a bit of a funk. It wouldn't surprise me one bit.
  15. I wouldn't put him 2nd. I'd leave him 4th because of his slugging. I'm just saying that putting him 2nd isn't as crazy as it sounds. It just goes against conventional thinking.
  16. I have never been a fan of large contracts. I was against this contract from the get go, though I really liked the idea of having Price on my team. He really looked like as close to a sure thing as you can get, at least for the early years of the contract. I guess what I'm trying to say is, although these huge contracts are rarely a good idea, I really can't fault Dombrowski for signing Price. It was an overpay, but Price should have been a huge upgrade. Dombrowski cannot control what happens on the field. Along the same philosophy of large contracts, Encarnacion should not be signed unless he will agree to 3 years max.
  17. And yet, you fret over the money that Farrell is making. Go figure.
  18. If he were pitching like an ace, we'd be in first place.
  19. Putting Papi second wouldn't be the craziest idea in the world. Traditionally, the #2 hole has been the most misused spot in the line up. In recent years, we have seen managers do a better job with that spot. We are starting to see batters that would have been considered taboo not too long ago being put in the #2 spot.
  20. I have not seen anything that has said that the 5th hitter is the most important. I've read that the 5th hitter is more important than the 3rd hitter, but not that he is the most important in the line up. The #1,2, and 4 hitters are the most important and should be filled first. As far as upsetting the L-R crowd, line up changes make such little difference that a manager is probably better off doing the L-R thing to prohibit an opposing manager from using a LOOGY for two lefties in a row than he is making the minute changes that are so often suggested by posters.
  21. Price will eventually be fine. I have little doubt about that. However, we are in the midst of a pennant race and need every win we can get. We can't afford to have our supposed ace whack out on us like that, and we can't afford to wait until next year for him to figure it out. I'm sure I am being harder on Price than I would be on any of the other starters. I'm sure it's about perceptions and expectations. Price was brought to this team for one reason - to be our ace. He has failed miserably at that job.
  22. Yup, that was pretty much all that we had. Hanley and Leon were left on the bench, but you certainly don't want to 'waste' either of them as a pinch runner. Wright looked funny as heck out there with a helmet on.
  23. Agreed. That was the bigger issue over going 5-6 on the road. We can't afford home stands like that. And Detroit has been on a good run since that.
