  1. Take back what I said about our pitching not being as big a concern as it seems. Though you won't want to hear, Price has become a problem. In his last 8 starts, we've won one game. In his last 13 starts, we've won 3 games. Granted, in a few of those games Price pitched well and didn't get much offensive support, but regardless, that's a problem. It's like when he takes the mound, it's almost a guaranteed loss. I'm so over Price. I'd rather have Buchholz as our 'ace'.
  2. I wouldn't call it a failure, though it was disappointing. Going 5-6 on a west coast road trip is not the end of the world. The Sox have to take care of business at home, and, at minimum, win the next two series.
  3. It seems like Benintendi and maybe Mookie were the only ones who remembered they were playing a game.
  4. I know that you've been adamant about putting the best hitter 3rd. I respectively disagree though.
  5. If I'm not mistaken though, he has not changed teams midseason before.
  6. I have confidence in our offense to snap out of their funk. However, if they continue to struggle like they have been, regardless of the reasons, then that is a concern. 7 of our last 11 losses have been in games where our pitchers have allowed 4 runs or fewer. IMO, the pitching got the job done in those games, the offense did not. I agree that our pitching overall has not been good. However, since July 8th, which is the last time we saw O'Sullivan pitch, our ERA has been 3.26. Pomeranz and ERod have been able to stabilize the bottom of the rotation. I don't think our pitching is as concerning as the overall 4.25 ERA suggests.
  7. David and sk, thank you for expanding on the off field aspects. Good posts. I'm guessing there's a lot that goes on behind the scenes in regards to off field stuff that we have no clue about.
  8. You do not want your best overall hitter batting 3rd. You want your 3 best hitters batting 1st, 2nd, and 4th OBP being more important for #1 and #2, and slugging being more important for #4.
  9. I can't really argue with that. He's had a lot of hype surrounding him which I'm sure can be overwhelming.
  10. I can't imagine that going from the obscurity of a team like the Padres to being thrust into the pressure cooker of a city like Boston is an easy adjustment. Also, it takes some time for the pitcher and catcher to get comfortable with each other. Personally, I think he will end up being a solid pitcher for us.
  11. He will play his last game on Friday, but will serve as a Special Advisor for the team through 2017.
  12. Fair points Bell and a700. That makes sense. I just hope the lack of consistent playing time doesn't hurt him. I still think this being the case, they should have left him in AA until September.
  13. Yes, I believe the offense is in a funk. They aren't going to be as good as they were early in the season. That level of offense was unsustainable. But nor should they be as bad as they've been in the past couple of weeks. I do not disagree with any of your 5 possibilities. I think each one of those things is contributing to the overall play of the team. That said, none of those things are new or unique to this team. Every team goes through those things every year. This is why depth is so important. They have to find a way to fight through it, and I agree that guys like Ortiz and Pedroia need to show their leadership in helping the team do so.
  14. I agree about Beni providing a possible spark. Since he's up, I do hope they start playing him regularly. I'm not sure I get the "ease him into it" idea.
  15. I am okay with the Pomeranz trade because, IMO, it needed to be done. We desperately needed starting pitching help. There is really no explanation as to why Pomeranz has pitched to a 6+ ERA with us. No, he likely wasn't going to be a top of the rotation starter, but he should be better than what we've seen. My guess is an adjustment period.
  16. Well, I don't know whether MLB had anything to do with it or not. But, Rea was the pitcher of concern. When it came out that he had some sort of medical concern that was not disclosed to the Marlins, that part of the deal was rescinded. Cashner stayed in place because he was not a concern.
  17. Our offense on the road is a concern, but our pitching has been better away from Fenway, so maybe our pitching can hold us up? I know, that sounds odd. On the road, we have scored 4.8 runs/game versus 5.9 runs/game at home. On the road, we have allowed 4.3 runs/game versus 4.8 runs/game at home. Let me add that up until this west coast trip, our offense scored 5.2 runs/game on the road. That's still not as good as the home offense, but better than what we've seen on this current trip, in which we've scored just 3.3 runs/game. Maybe the offense is not as big a concern on the road as it looks right now? I don't know, but hopefully it's a slump that goes away soon.
  18. Ha. Great minds think alike.
  19. Crock. No team is 'built to win close games'.
  20. I can agree with the idea that it might be time for a change due to the fact that our offense has struggled, to shake things up so to speak. I have no problem with moving a struggling hitter down in the order to take some pressure off, for instance. But outside of that, making nickel and dime changes to the line up just because someone presents better in another slot is unnecessary.
  21. I don't disagree with most of what you're saying regarding line up construction. The line up that we currently have is not 'optimal'. That said, the bottom line is that line up changes really do not make much of a difference. You can do more damage than good by taking players out of their comfort zones, hence the 'if it ain't broke' mantra. Now, it's quite possible that Mookie will thrive hitting 3rd. It's also possible that he won't. It's also possible that Pedroia, or whoever else is moved to the leadoff spot, will struggle. Farrell has a better feel for this than any of us do, and it seems like he is considering the change. We may get a chance to see how it works out.
  22. All is not lost. If we win today, we still go home with a winning road trip. Here is another game where we need our 'ace' to do what an ace does. Frankly, I'm more concerned with whether our offense can score any runs.
  23. ARod press conference at 11:00. Gotta love it.
  24. I really feel for Lincecum. I was pulling for him.
