  1. And here is Exhibit A of what I stated in the previous post. What if Cabrera and the Mets had failed? You wouldn't be posting anything about them being more focused. It's never a good idea to 'retaliate' when the game is on the line. You risk putting a runner on base, which then increases the chances of the batting team scoring runs.
  2. I can't speak for sk, but I don't think he's talking about being able to recognize a big moment. It's making the determination after the fact that a particular player was 'in the zone' or 'dialed in' or whatever you want to call it because he came through in the big moment. No player or fan ever talks about how they were 'in the zone' after they failed in the clutch moment.
  3. On this we agree. Sometimes the real save situation occurs in the 7th or 8th inning. It seems kind of pointless to have a 'lesser' pitcher come in and blow the game in the 8th, while your best reliever is sitting on the bench waiting for a save situation that never comes. That said, there is the issue with having your closer warming up and ready to go in 8th inning in case he's needed.
  4. Nice. Do you command or control your choke?
  5. I have many times stated that our current team is a championship caliber team. We are very good, and should be for the next 3 years. The state of our short term is not the issue. I love our team. I just think we could have a championship caliber team and still have a strong long term outlook.
  6. Agreed. One reason that I was not as concerned about the BP as some were is the ability of our starters to pitch deep into games, even more so once Price returns. Of course, we can have those outings like Wright had last night.
  7. Nice avatar BTW Nick. The cliff edge is coming!
  8. Except that had he stayed (and not gotten injured), there's a very real chance that he could have been the #4 starter.
  9. I completely understand the desire to get under the luxury cap, but starting pitching depth was and still is a concern for me. I was not as in favor of the trade as most people here were. In hindsight, Dombrowski made the right call.
  10. I don't care how, just WIN!
  11. No they aren't. I've tried listening to a radio broadcast while watching on tv, but the two are never quite in sync. I guess I could go to just listening.
  12. I read earlier today that our BP had the best BA against and the best SLG against. Matt Barnes has really stepped it up so far, in a very, very, small sample. Maybe our pen won't be the weakness that some think it will be.
  13. I think you and I are mostly on the same page here. Whiners Unite!!!
  14. He got 4 hits, each of which had an exit velocity under 90. LOL That's a record of some sort. Perhaps he can be Pomeranz' personal caddy and lead him to the Promised Land.
  15. First off, I am far from a Doom and Gloomer. I am allowed to have concerns about the future of our team. Secondly, our FO is most certainly operating at a win now at all costs philosophy at the expense of our future. They went overboard. We already had a contender without needing to going over the top. All that said, I am withholding final judgment on Dombrowski's reign until all is said and done. However, I listened to criticism and negativity about Ben and Theo for years. I am darn well going to voice my displeasure with Dombrowski's farm gutting.
  16. I was thinking more in terms of the difference in production and saves of a top closer versus a good closer. I realize that 'saves' are not a good stat by which to measure a reliever, but the bottom line is whether the closer was able to save the game or not. A good closer may not be as 'flashy' in getting the job done as a top closer, but a good closer will still save the vast majority of games. In short, to me it doesn't make much sense to pay a high price to get a 'top' closer when you can get virtually the same amount of production for a much cheaper price. Use the money and/or prospects in other areas.
  17. I didn't like what we gave up for Pom, but I felt like the trade was necessary and I was, therefore, good with it. I don't get the criticism towards Pom. Maybe he will flame out and be as unreliable as Buchholz, but I think he will end up being a solid starter for us. I'm not talking ace, by any means, but a solid mid rotation pitcher. Yes, I know I'm wearing, my rose colored glasses.
  18. There is no such thing as Clutch Command or Clutch Control. Only Choke Command and Choke Control.
  19. I'm in southeastern VA, not too far from NC. Orioles games are blacked out on the Extra Innings package, which forces me to watch MASN and listen to the ever annoying idiot Thorne. Eff the Orioles. WIN!
  20. It is largely a myth. Pitchers may approach hitters differently, but it really has no effect on the batter's overall production.
  21. A man after my own heart. Thank you. I mentioned this in another thread somewhere, but no one agreed.
  22. Cannot stand Buck, and we agree completely about Thorne. Bunch of whiny babies!
  23. How much of an actual difference is there between a 'top' closer and a good closer? (Rhetorical question, BTW, since I already have the answer.)
  24. Absolutely. Duquette gets much of the credit for 2004. All I'm saying is stop acting like Dombrowski magically transformed this team into a winner all by himself. Ben and Theo deserve much, most, of the credit for our current team. I'm not talking about you specifically, but some posters.
  25. I more or less share Youk's sentiments regarding the Os. They are almost as bad as the Yankees. I can't stand Showalter, and Gary Thorne is the worst. That being the case, the Red Sox need to kick some butt tonight! Pomeranz for the Win!
