  1. And right on cue, he commits another error...
  2. I don't hate Pablo. I'm really pulling for him.
  3. We had our starting line up for Opening Day. We haven't had it since then, I believe.
  4. Have to stop squandering those opportunities. How many double plays have we hit into?
  5. I like this place much better than BDC.
  6. Agree 100%. I hated all the new threads started at BDC.
  7. First off, WAR is in terms of Wins. The positional adjustment is in terms of Runs. Therefore, your math in getting Betts to a WAR of 16.5 before the positional adjustment is not correct. The way BR does WAR, in short: oWAR = batting + positional adjustment dWAR = fielding + positional adjustment WAR = batting + fielding + positional adjustment If you just add oWAR and dWAR, you are counting the positional adjustment twice. Also, the positional adjustment is based off of 150 games. The adjustment has to be prorated according to the number of innings played.
  8. WAR is a very good descriptive stat. It correlates very well with actual team wins.
  9. ERod has been activated and could be used out of the pen tonight, if things go awry with Porcello. This will be Porcello's bounce back game. J-Bay mojo going strong! WIN!
  10. You have become rather insulting and very presumptuous. I don't like it one bit. I'll tell you the same thing that I've told others. If I'm boring you that much, the ignore feature is a beautiful thing. Use it.
  11. Yeah, I don't get that connection at all. These people have clearly never watched a game with me.
  12. This post is wrong on so many levels.
  13. As I said, it might be a fine line, but there's a difference. Players 'psyche' themselves out in many non pressure situations. You have a mini slump during the regular season, you start second guessing yourself. You start pressing. You change your approach. That has nothing to do with it being a high leverage situation or high leverage game.
  14. To your first statement, no. To your second statement, double no.
  15. It's not the criticism of Pablo being out of shape that bothered me. It's the assumptions about his character that bothered me.
  16. Toronto's offense has been really bad. I mean really bad. So, that either bodes well for Johnson or Johnson will be the guy that gets their bats jump started. I'm going with the former. WIN!!!
  17. Well, I can live with all of that. That is not the same as some of the other things you were claiming.
  18. I'm going with the statistical evidence on this one. If you show me strong statistical evidence that rules out any of the other number of things, then we can narrow the list even further.
  19. I have stated many times that mental and emotional factors do affect performance. I can't prove it, but I firmly believe it. It might be a fine line, but IF Price is pitching poorly in the post season due to psychological reasons, I don't see it as choking. IMO, it's more along the lines of a batter who starts pressing when he's in a slump.
  20. No doubt. Randomness is not the answer to everything. I know I use the term a lot, but I also understand that there are things going on in baseball that have explanations that are just not 'discovered' yet. I don't believe clutch is one of those things though.
  21. I am happy to admit that he is proving me wrong.
  22. I am far from pessimistic. I am a homer who sees everything through rose colored glasses, or have you forgotten that statement already?
  23. This is exactly why I've been so defensive about Pablo. I don't like his contract either, but I still believe that there were unfair comments made about his character.
  24. If we win a World Series within the next 3 years, then everything Dombrowski did will be worth it. If we don't, then let's hope the farm is replenished in the meantime to keep us competitive. A lot can happen in 3 years. I'm willing to give Dombrowski the benefit of the doubt as far as saving us from the cliff goes, but regardless, I am not a fan of his modus operandi to date.
  25. You are making a lot of unfair assumptions about those pitchers. Pretty much any pitcher is going to pale in comparison to Sale. Sale is an ace. The others are not, nor are they supposed to be. Price is supposed to be an ace. He has paled in comparison to Sale so far. If Price does not do his part this year, then yes, we will absolutely have needed Sale.
