  1. Two draft picks, offset by the financial flexibility gained by trading Devers. 😉
  2. Post of the day, Hugh.
  3. I cannot disagree with you. While I'd like to see Mayer get to the point where he's playing against LH starters, a Mayer/Romy platoon ought to be pretty darn good.
  4. Get to the playoffs. Once there, anything can happen. We could be the Dodgers and be out after the first series. Or we could be the last WC team in and win the whole thing.
  5. Colorado has a 0.2% chance, LOL. I think the Yankees will win the division, followed by the Red Sox, though the Jays will give us a run for 2nd place. Obviously, these things often don't turn out as expected. Maybe the Red Sox will run away with the division. 😁
  6. I have always liked the Reds, and like them even more after they brought in Francona to manage. Burns will be exciting to follow. Elly is another one that will be exciting to follow. I'm not sure that they have enough to win the division, but the playoffs are certainly not out of the question for them. And they do have the Francona Factor.
  7. I don't know what the status of Romy's injury is, but perhaps Cora would prefer that Romy DH instead of playing the field when he first returns. I agree, Romy needs to start every game against LH starting pitching.
  8. You guys are probably right. Mayer is the guy that Cora is going to want to platoon.
  9. Yes, I agree that he does have to prove himself. I guess the question becomes, how does he prove that he can hit LHP if he's being platooned? He's not going to get any better at hitting LHP if he's not given the opportunity to face LHP regularly.
  10. Look at that. Fourth best team in the AL.
  11. That makes a lot of sense. I don't want to see a lot of moving parts either. I really would like to see the Red Sox commit to Mayer as a full time player as opposed to a platoon player.
  12. No, I don't think I would do that. I still prefer the stronger pitching over the stronger offense.
  13. I am okay without the addition of a big bat. But I fully admit that the first time we lose a well-pitched game because we couldn't score any runs, I will be (silently) cursing somebody or something.
  14. Sea Beach Fred?
  15. That could be, though Story willingly (I think) played 2nd base to accommodate Bogaert back in the day.
  16. I was thinking A-, which of course rounds up to an A. Starting pitching is always my priority. The Red Sox addressed that very well. We could perhaps have upgraded the offense a little more, but at what cost? The types of moves that Breslow made are the types of moves that are right up my alley.
  17. I'm guessing it all depends on where the Red Sox are in the standings. If we're in it, then they should be willing to go over (or stay over) the 2nd line if needed. If we're not in it, then shed unneeded payroll to get under.
  18. I am never sure who to trust on payroll numbers. If they are over the 2nd CBT, that's even more to the point that the Red Sox are spending plenty.
  19. I'm with you on this Drewski. I like hearing this.
  20. I think most are in agreement that Story at 2B would be a better alignment defensively. I'm not sure why Cora isn't considering it. I don't think Story would be opposed. My prediction is for 91 wins and 2nd place in the division behind the dreaded team that shall not be named.
  21. The Red Sox payroll is roughly $250M, and barring them shedding some salary later, they will be over the luxury tax limit for the 2nd consecutive year. They are hardly the As, Pirates, or Rockies.

    Olympics

I guess no one else is really watching the Olympics. LOL Such great moments highlighting "the thrill of victory and the agony of defeat." Who's with me on figure skating? Curling? Anyone?
  23. Woot! Let's go! Let's get through March Madness, and it will be time for the boys of summer.
  24. I get hugely attached to our players, and I hate to lose them in free agency. That said, IMO, that's the way to go. Enjoy them when they are young and somewhat affordable, but you have to let them walk if their free agent contract is going to be outrageous, which is typically the case. Hopefully, by the time our young stars are ready to walk, the next group of young stars is ready to take their spots. In a perfect world, there'd be a never-ending revolving door of players like Betts and Anthony. Also, I'm all about the better value player over the better player, mainly because I'm so opposed to those large contracts.
