  1. Enough of this losing to the Yankees BS. Just freakin' WIN!
  2. And yet, our pen is one of the best in the league. 1st in ERA, 2nd in WAR.
  3. I wanted him back (again, emotional attachment) but I would never pay what the Yankees paid for him.
  4. It all depends on what you could get in return, and how you would fill the hole. I love Bogaerts, but then again, I tend to get emotionally attached to our players. If I were going to trade him, it would not be because I don't think he's good enough, it would be to try to get something of value for him before he walks. I think that's the way most of the thinking is here. But as I said, it depends on how the SS hole would then be filled for the short term. IMO, it would not make sense to now hurt the team's short term chances in order to rebuild the farm.
  5. I also think Hanley will be with us full time next year. I would imagine the team will do its best to keep him at DH as opposed to playing 1B.
  6. Correct. Bringing Kimbrel into the 8th inning does not mean he necessarily has to get 3+ outs. If he can also pitch the 9th without risk of overuse, then great. If not, bring someone else in for the 9th. The game needed 'saving' in the 8th. If a lesser reliever blows the game in the 9th inning, at least the game wasn't lost with your best reliever sitting on the bench.
  7. Because dudes dig the long ball.
  8. I agree oldtimer. As a bench player, young is fine.
  9. What about research that refutes what is, in your opinion, obvious?
  10. I didn't really get that point. Actually, I'm not sure I get the point of the entire article. Of course hot streaks and cold streaks exist. That is not and never has been the point of the 'hot hand' debate.
  11. I agree completely. The real save situation occurred in the 8th inning. I don't like saving the 'closer' for a save situation that may never come.
  12. I think that all the unnecessary hand wringing stems from people putting more weight/importance on line ups than they should. That said, I agree that a manager should do whatever he can to eek out every advantage. Sometimes, that may mean placing a batter in a spot he feels more comfortable in than in a spot that he seems statistically suited for. As far as obsessing over line ups too much, obsess away. That's why we're here.
  13. The offensive expectations were reasonable. You can't expect all the players to hit at or above expectations, but they also should not pretty much all be hitting below expectations. For all the problems and complaints the team has had, we lead the division by 3 1/2 games.
  14. No we wouldn't, because I would not be able to build a #1 farm. But with Ben still at the helm, we would have a top farm system AND a contending team.
  15. Losses like last night's are really tough to swallow, but you are absolutely right. Thanks for being a voice of reason.
  16. Being on 3rd would allow Nunez to score without getting a base hit. If there are already two outs, you absolutely don't take that chance.
  17. I agree Max. It was a reasonable attempt. And I'm thinking that if Nunez did not tag, we would be hearing about 'why is Nunez still on 2nd base?'
  18. The Nunez base running play is iffy. If he had made it safely, then tied the game on a sac fly, everyone would be talking about what great baserunning that was by Nunez. Was it a bit too risky? Probably, but I would not call it stupid. As far as Moreland coming in as a defensive replacement, that type of move is made all the time. That is the exact type of situation where you use a defensive replacement, especially when you have a strong pen. And I can guarantee that if Hanley had been left in the game and made an error that resulted in our losing, Farrell would be criticized for not bringing in a defensive replacement.
  19. We can't seem to bury a team when we have the chance. Last night's game was a killer. Our offensive numbers against the Yankees, particularly with RISP are pathetic.
  20. MVP, newly crowned stat geek!
  21. So, research/stats that support your opinion =good, research/stats that don't support your opinion = bad?
  22. Beni will be fine. He is not making up as big a difference as some of us hoped for, but the pitching and defense are making up for it.
  23. We got this! Go Sox!!!
  24. Line ups drawn out of a hat bosoxmal! LOL
  25. Yes, I thought that Sale was a luxury, not a necessity. I was counting on Price to be that guy. I didn't think he would have as great a season as Sale is having, but I thought he would rebound to form. It seems like Sale is indeed the difference maker, which is exactly why I am not the GM of the team.
