  1. Pomeranz has really stepped it up. Credit to Farrell for that argument he got into with Pom in the dugout.
  2. I did not notice the look on Hanley's face. I'll have to go back and look at it. But yeah, that was a weak at bat by Hanley. I'm thrilled with what we've seen from Devers so far.
  3. Rightly because it's his money, and like I said, it's not like he's been a tightwad. He is spending like a big market team. Again, the fans can expect and demand whatever they want, but Henry is going to spend whatever he sets as his limit, not what the fans demand. As long as he's spending around the luxury tax limit every year, and willing to go over it to a reasonable extent, I'm good with that. I hate losing our players to free agency, believe me. It will break my heart if Betts walks. From a fan's perspective, I would be thrilled if the Sox give him a 10 year deal in order to keep him, but that kind of contract goes against every ounce of rational thinking that I have. And probably more so because we are set to lose several cost controlled players at the same time.
  4. He's too young to know any better.
  5. Much as I hate to admit it, this is a fair point.
  6. Interesting thread...
  7. Well, don't get me started on the whole 'save' and 'hold' stat. Those are not the key stats for which a reliever should be judged or paid.
  8. IMO, the current AL MVP is Sale. Thanks Dave!
  9. Good stuff sk.
  10. My man. Which is exactly why advanced stats are needed.
  11. ^^ This, times 1000.
  12. Keep the faith Moon, keep the faith.
  13. Yeah, it would be. I'm not sure that's still possible.
  14. His defense was projected to be above average as a catcher. In that regard, Swihart was hurt by 2 things. One is that he was called into action before he was ready. Two is that he was never going to match up to Vazquez' defense. But many felt like he could be the better overall catcher between the two. The FO really messed up with his development, IMO. I realize the ankle injury has changed to course of action, but prior to that, they needed to make up their minds about whether he was going to be a catcher or not.
  15. If he had been thrown out, there would be several posts about how stupid the base running was, but since he was safe, it was heads up base running. That's the thing about aggressive base running. You're taking a risk. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose. We have won more than we have lost.
  16. Fans can demand it all they want, but Henry has every reasonable right not to do it. It's not like Henry is a tightwad. If he had a payroll of $100 million every year, then that would be one thing. But he doesn't. He has shown time and again that he is willing to spend his money and even eat tens of millions of dollars, which is no small thing. I can understand people wanting to lock Betts up, no matter the cost. I wouldn't do it if it takes 10 years, but I can understand people wanting it. Just understand that Henry does have a spending limit, and rightly so. Therefore, spending huge on Mookie will result in less money being available elsewhere. Without foreseeable cost controlled players being available to take over roster spots, that could be a problem.
  17. I did miss that memo! Thanks for sharing!
  18. I also want to point out that Holt's aggressive base running led directly to our first run scored. Things like this tend to go unnoticed or at least unmentioned in the game thread. But this why our aggressive base running has helped us more than it has hurt us, despite all the OOBs.
  19. Post of the game thread.
  20. LOL Merloni went on a nice little Farrell rant last night. I am concerned about the message that Farrell is sending to Reed - "I don't trust you." At this point, I don't blame Farrell for not trusting him. I just hope that Reed can bounce back from his shaky outings.
  21. Friday nights game was a heart breaker, but the last 2 games have been sweet redemption. 2 out 3 ain't bad.
  22. I will never say another bad word about Dombrowski and his panic moves again. (Or at least until tomorrow.)
  23. Many well hit balls that didn't get down for hits last night.
  24. Not as many as the vaunted Yankees bullpen has blown.
