  1. Workman has not had a good September, but he was very good in July and August.
  2. Enter it. Boneheaded play that did not cost us a game. Even if the Sox had lost, it would be a boneheaded play that did not cost us a game.
  3. With a runner on 3rd and less than 2 outs, we score the runner 50% of the time. League average is 50%.
  4. It was good to see Swihart back on the field. It was even better to see someone on our team lay down a good sac bunt (which turned into a hit). He did a good job behind the plate too.
  5. We blew a couple of great run scoring opportunities in the 11th and 12th, which I was afraid would come back to bite us. I kept thinking that the Rays, a good home run hitting team, are one swing away from a walk off. Thankfully, the pen did its job. Great win!
  6. Credit to you southpaw, you have been on the Vaz bandwagon since before the season started. Good call.
  7. Yes, we were. But now we have a cliff.
  8. Whether one is a more aggressive hitter or a more patient hitter, I think the key is to be a disciplined hitter. Don't take pitches just for the sake of taking pitches, and don't swing at the first pitch just for the sake of swinging at the first pitch. A disciplined hitter usually knows when to take some pitches and when to come out swinging, all while staying within his game.
  9. You never win or lose a game on one play, one decision, one mistake, etc. It just can't happen.
  10. I really think the great majority of these 'bonehead' plays are just overaggressiveness. It doesn't make them any better, but it's part of the package if your team baserunning philosophy is to be aggressive.
  11. Moon, there are many instances where runners have successfully made it to 3B on a ball hit in front of them. Mookie has done it at least a couple of times this year, with the reaction that he is such a smart baserunner. It's not an automatic 'don't run' situation. There are a lot of factors to consider, such as how hard the ball is hit and where the shortstop is playing. It is sometimes a judgment call, and if a player is trying too hard, he might use poor judgment in that situation.
  12. Word on the street is that Hanley's shoulder(s) is(are) flaring up again. I'd give him several days off.
  13. I personally really like JBJ batting 9th.
  14. As far as Price pitching out of the pen, I have no problems with that. Give it a try, what could it hurt? My understanding is that he will be used for multiple innings and will be somewhat of a 'piggybacker' should one of our starters not have it on a particular day, like Fister in his last start. Maybe if we have a comfortable lead, that would allow Farrell to pull Sale after 5 and give him a bit of a blow.
  15. I know for a fact that they scan sites like Fangraphs and Baseball Prospectus, and rightly so. They have hired many former contributors to those sites to work in their organizations. Perhaps someone in the organization scans Talksox (I really don't think they do), but if they are, I'm not sure that we are enlightening them to anything they don't already know or have already considered.
  16. The thing is, organizations have some very good and very smart people working for them, and lots of them. It's what they do for a living, unlike us who do baseball as a pastime. I'm not saying that people here aren't baseball smart, but I am extremely confident that if we think of an idea here that is worthy of consideration, it has already been considered within the organization.
  17. Price's does. He has a magic elbow.
  18. I think he can bounce back next year, but not to Cy Young level. I think he can be a good #2 pitcher. That said, I'm not sure why he has given up on using his sinker more often and has become more of a fly ball pitcher.
  19. Baseball is not meant to be played in a dome. Tip of the hat to the Rays organization though for their efforts in helping out their community shortly after landing.
  20. As I've said before, we will be getting no help from the Yankees opponents, especially the Roll Over Os. The Sox need to take care of business. Get it done boys!
  21. I'm not getting that vibe at all. Maybe he won't be 'happy', and I don't think any starter would be, but he'll do what is asked of him to the best of his ability.
  22. They have since announced that Price will be pitching out of the pen.
  23. This is actually true about not minding Manny on the Guardians. It's more like I would have hated him if he played on the Yankees.
  24. You are right about not counting our chickens before they hatch. Until they are mathematically eliminated, the Yankees are still very much in this thing. That said, I feel pretty good about our team.
