  1. And pay his salary on top of that? No thank you.
  2. I think if the Sox went a little higher on that offer in both years and dollars, along the lines of what Bellhorn suggested, Mookie might bite. I don't think it would necessarily take 10 years.
  3. How Hanley plays next year will dictate whether he gets enough PAs to qualify. If he's good enough to where the FO thinks he can help us in 2019, he'll get a lot of playing time. If he's meh, he won't get the playing time, and rightly so. Unless we have no one better to take those at bats. I'm thinking that Nunez is probably going to cost more than we would want to pay for a supersub.
  4. I am actually starting to believe that Price will make it back this season. If he can't get stretched out enough to start, he could at least help us out the pen. He could be one our new found piggy back pitchers.
  5. I'm with you.
  6. I agree, this sounds very logical. From all accounts that I've read, the penalty will not be harsh.
  7. Good point about the GMs typically handling this type of thing.
  8. It looks like we'll have enough pen pieces for next year, with a lot depending on the health of Smith and Thornburg. Either way, I hope Dombrowski does not spend big on a reliever. IMO, Dombrowski signs or trades for a power bat and a #2/3 starting pitcher.
  9. Moving Devers to 1B and picking up a 3B is certainly worth considering if the market is stronger for third basemen. I wouldn't make the move because of any issues that Devers is having because moving him for that reason seems rather rash. But if we can improve our overall team significantly more by picking a a 3B over a 1B, it should be considered.
  10. Fister has been a godsend. He has an ERA of 1.5 over his last 4 games, courtesy of a .173 BABIP. I have more faith in him right now than I have in any of our other starters, including Sale. It was nice to close out that series with 2 wins.
  11. The fact that the underperformances are so widespread really is rather incredible.
  12. Stay safe, and best wishes for your dad. Also best wishes to all our friends in Florida.
  13. Happy dogs. The look on the dog's face in the 2nd pic is priceless.
  14. I am completely opposed to this idea. 19 inning games can be epic.
  15. They need an ice cream cone.
  16. It ended up being a pretty good night. Anytime we win on a walkoff while the Yankees lose on a walkoff, that's a good night.
  17. The pitching is the reason why we won that came. The offense was pathetic. If not for our pen doing a stellar job of now allowing the Jays to score for so many innings, we would have lost.
  18. I wonder whose brilliant idea this is? Who's the leader behind this?
  19. To state the obvious, this is not good.
  20. Well there you go. I agree, the Sox need to become less predictable.
  21. And to everyone, have faith. We got this!
  22. This is why Farrell can't win. Pretty much no matter what he does, he's going to be criticized.
  23. I agree completely. Many posters seem to think that they are what they are, and this team just isn't very good. Personally, I still think the offensive talent is there, and that the underperformances are puzzling. At any rate, as frustrated as I am with the team right now, it's not as bad as it looks after this recent mini fall. I remain optimistic about this team.
  24. The problem, as many stated, is that the hitters have become predictable. When you're predictable, the opposition can exploit what you're doing. That said, on the rare times when I do see our hitters swing at the first pitch, it seems like they're hitting a lot of lazy fly balls, thereby giving the opposing pitcher an easy one pitch out. That's frustrating too.
  25. As I said with calling up Devers or acquiring some other power hitter, that won't do us any good if the guys we have don't get their heads out of their butts. Of course the team was going to miss Ortiz. Any team would. But his absence is not the reason that we are as many runs below last year's production as we currently are.
