  1. No kidding. Of course, we all tend to get greedy. LOL
  2. Fair enough on both posts. You really don't have to convince me that we have a good team. I like our team. I don't think we're the best team in the league, but as I've said, I like our chances as much as any other team's chances.
  3. I'm not talking about 'failing' his physical if he is indeed healthy. There seems to be something legitimately wrong with his shoulders that may or may not heal over the off season. If that's the case, I don't see how he would pass his physical. I'm a Hanley fan. I have no problem with picking up his option if he's healthy and can hit reasonably well.
  4. I like this post oldtimer. I think we are in great shape to win the division, but nothing is guaranteed yet and should not be treated as such.
  5. Fair post.
  6. Yes, we have a very good team. I've said that all season long. I don't agree that we are better than the Yankees, but we have as good a chance of advancing as they do if we meet head to head.
  7. Right. That's what I meant. They might be willing to take him for next year, now that they've reset the penalty.
  8. They could have provided the Marlins were looking for a straight salary dump. My point is, what do claiming teams have to lose if they are willing to take that monstrous contract?
  9. This made me literally LOL Well played. I don't hate the long ball. I actually like it well enough. I just don't put as much value on it as you dudes do. OBP is still king.
  10. No, I realize how good a hitter Stanton is. I know that carries a higher OPS than any of our starters. I still think that some people have fallen overly in love with his home runs. And he's having what may be a career year. Or, he could be hitting his prime. We really don't know. My point is that I don't think Stanton worth the contract PLUS the players that we will have to give up. I'll stick with Beni, who is a darn good player in his own right.
  11. No, I don't know that for sure, but to me, it seems logical to presume that. If a team really wants Stanton and is willing to take on the contract, why not take the chance? They have nothing to lose, and everything to gain. They could get Stanton without having to part with any prospects. There are a lot teams that cannot handle that type of contract, or more accurately, don't want to. In the case of the Red Sox, I don't think they'd want the contract this year because of the luxury tax.
  12. The Sox are a good team. The Yankees have been playing well and winning, and the Sox have held them off. That said, I was reading that our last 19 games have been against below .500 teams. That's not to take anything away from the Sox. They have been getting the job done in crunch time. They are a good team and are not to be taken lightly. However, the teams they will be facing are very good teams in their own right.
  13. I will give you boneheadedness on this one. This is another boneheaded play that did not cost us the game.
  14. I thought the Yankees would be competitive all season long, but I thought they would fall a little short of the playoffs. Of course, depending on who you ask, the Yankees haven't made the playoffs yet. It is both impressive and sickening. Let it be known that I will be pulling for whoever is playing against the Yanks. Go Sox!
  15. I hope all is well with you and your family iortiz.
  16. I sent Farrell a text begging him to bat Holt either 1st or 2nd, just for funsies.
  17. It made perfect sense. Farrell is in playoff mode right now, trying to clinch the division. His decisions reflect that.
  18. I'm not trying to downplay the significance of a 100 run difference between last year and this year. However, the fact that we led the league by that much last year is a big reason why I felt out offense would still be a top 3 offense. My feeling was that we could score 100 fewer runs and still be better than the other teams.
  19. I think that is a valid point, to an extent. Our lack of home runs is certainly part of the reason why our offense is down, though I would disagree with the 'mostly'. I really and sincerely think that much of it is unexplainable.
  20. Doesn't Hanley have to pass a physical in order for the option to vest? If Hanley is healthy, I think he will be a very good hitter for us, and we'll want him in the line up. If he's not healthy, then I don't think the union has a case as far as Hanley not getting the PAs. Additionally, how would he pass the physical if his shoulders are all messed up?
  21. The one game we gained on them last night looms very large. In one sense, it kind of stinks that by clinching early enough, we are allowing the Yankees to use Severino in the wildcard game, as Notin pointed out. It would be nice if the Yankees had to go with the bad Tanaka in that game.
  22. We have a winner.
  23. Well, I'm going with the idea that these things have a way of working themselves out. Or we can go with the one about how you can never have enough pitching. A big part of my desire to get another starter is that I am not confident in Price remaining healthy. If I knew with reasonable assuredness that he will not need surgery or that he will not miss significant time, then I would not be looking for a starter. Also, I'm not sure what's going on with Porcello, and I think Pom is due for some regression.
  24. That makes a lot of sense to me. And it seems like such a simple problem to correct, but I guess that's easier said than done.
  25. My wish list includes a #2/3 starter. That would be my top wish.
