  1. For the sake of my mental well being, I'm glad they don't do that every year.
  2. Matthew Kory‏Verified account @mattymatty2000 38 percent of the Yankees run differential this season (+174) has come versus the Orioles (+66) That is just whack.
  3. It was reported today that the Sox are interested in bringing back Nunez and that Holt is a good candidate to be non-tendered. Not surprising, but I'm thinking that Nunez has priced himself out of a super utility role for us.
  4. I don't think anyone would give up on Devers after basically two months in the majors. However, the team has to consider all of the possible scenarios and consider what the best alignment for the team would be. I would not move Devers off of 3rd unless we are talking about a pretty significant upgrade like Machado (not that I'd want him on our team), but moving Devers certainly has to be a consideration.
  5. FTR, I don't panic. I'm like the antithesis of panic. They don't call me 'Cool as a cucumber Kimmi' for nothing.
  6. Not only this, but having young guys to replace some of the players as they leave helps with payroll. If you don't have the cost controlled guys on your roster, it makes it that much harder to sign free agents if you need them.
  7. The point is not who would help us NOW or even whether these guys would be blocked or not. The point is to have a strong farm system to replenish your roster when current players leave, either by having the prospects fill the roles directly or by trading them to fill holes. I don't have any problem with trading guys away to fill needs. I have a problem with taking that philosophy to such an extreme that it hurts the long term outlook of the team.
  8. I have no problem with having 2 or more aces. Like you, I'm thrilled that we have Sale. Again for me, it's not the Sale trade, per se, but the overall magnitude of what was traded away.
  9. I agree. I really, really don't like Bogaerts leading off.
  10. Devers started off like a madman, but he has cooled off considerably after his first 20 games. He hasn't hit a home run since then, which was back on Aug 19. Since then, he's hitting .224/.283/.286/.569 in 26 games. Not trying to rag on him, but that's really pretty bad. Pitchers seem to have the book on him right now. I wouldn't move him up any higher in the line up, mostly just to keep the pressure off of him as much as possible.
  11. Personally, I want no part of the Yankees in the postseason. We can't seem to win a series off of them. I'd rather take my chances with either Cleveland or Houston. I was hoping that the other wildcard contenders would miraculously knock the Yankees out, but none of them can seem to play better than .500 ball. I really hope the Yanks are eliminated in the wildcard game.
  12. I can't stand Showalter. I can't believe he put the tying run on base to face Sanchez. Even Britton was not pleased with that call. At any rate, I'm sick of losing to the Os. We can officially eliminate them from the division race with a win tonight. Get it done boys!
  13. He is not far off from earning it this year either.
  14. I am with you Moon. The magnitude of prospects we have traded away under the Dombrowski era is astounding.
  15. Well, having scored more than 100 runs better than our closest competitor, I thought our offense would be good enough to still be in the top 3. I also really thought that Price would become the ace that we had hoped for when we signed him. In short, I thought our team was a strong competitor before we traded for Sale.
  16. Injuries are always a concern, and now Mookie was pulled from the game with a hand contusion of some sort. Hopefully, that doesn't keep him out for more than a game or two, if at all. Hanley took batting practice today and hopes to be back during the Baltimore series, not that he was doing much offensively. It sounds like Nunez could be back this series as well. Farrell is being extremely cautious with Pedroia, and not playing him in the field with the artificial turf was well advised. But, it sounds as though our guys should be okay for the stretch run and the playoffs. Believe me, I'd like to have a much larger lead for the division, but we are still in a better spot than the Yankees are. One game at a time.
  17. Price looked very good. It will be interesting to see if he stays in the pen or if he eventually works his way back into the rotation.
  18. In fairness to ERod and Farrell, ERod did get through the 1st two batters of the 6th inning pretty easily. I wouldn't have sent him back out, but I don't think it was a moronic move to do so.
  19. Thank you Birds, for pulling out one game.
  20. ERod did a great job of getting out of that inning with limited damage. On the whole, he pitched well. He did his job.
  21. To an extent. I agree that we needed to acquire a top pitcher in the 2016 offseason. I would not have gone all out on Price, but at least Price only cost money. I agree that we needed to trade for Pom at last year's deadline, and I was fine with that trade, though I thought the cost was a little high. Those things needed to be done. I stand by my opinion that at the time the trade occurred, we did not need Sale. Our rotation looked pretty good. Sale was a luxury, not a need. In hindsight, it turns out that I was very wrong about needing him, but hindsight is 20/20. I also stand by my opinion that we overpaid for Kimbrel, regardless of how good he has been this year. Again, it's not really one particular deal that I have issue with. It's the totality of the farm depletion that I think could have been avoided.
  22. Home runs are nice but they are overrated. Run scoring still boils down to OBP.
  23. Since Aug. 1, which is 9 starts, Sale's ERA is 4.25. There is just reason for concern with him. I'm still picking him as my #1 guy, but I'm not feeling as confident about him as I was earlier in the year.
  24. It's an anomaly, which is why their run has been record setting. That said, Cleveland is a very good team. Not good enough to have a streak of 22 wins without some luck and randomness, but very good nonetheless. They are due to come back down to earth. But here's the thing that is often misunderstood about 'coming back down to earth'. When they return to earth, they should still continue to play at about .600 winning baseball. They are not going to play .100 ball to 'balance out' the hot streak. You are right that now that the streak is over, it doesn't mean anything. In fact, while it was going on, it didn't mean anything as far as what would happen next. It would be a fallacy to predict what Cleveland will or won't do in the postseason based on that win streak.
