  1. I would think that the starters would be on a shorter leash for this upcoming series, as we are nearing crunch time. That said, I still think that it's a little too early in the season to be managing in a 'win at any cost' mode. When we play the Yankees for two series in September, different story. I am not saying Cora should blow off any game, and I don't think he will. But he also should not do something like pitch Kimbrel for 4 games in a row.
  2. No one is running away with the division. That said, I'd rather be in the position that we are in than in the Yankees' position.
  3. Mal, you are awesome. Simply awesome. Thank you for your service to our wonderful country and thank you for your awesome stories.
  4. I agree with you. I think Price has pitched better, on the whole, than he is given credit for. I think he gets a lot of criticism because he hasn't pitched up to the fans' expectations of being an ace. The team is 13-6 in his starts, a .684 win %, which is pretty darn good.
  5. Amen to that.
  6. I think both the Red Sox and Yankees will take care of business against the other teams. There are 10 games remaining between the rivals, 7 at Fenway, 3 at Yankee Stadium. Those games could be the difference, with those being the Yankees' best chance of gaining ground on us. If the Sox at least split the remaining games with the Yankees, I think the division is ours.
  7. Mapping it out, Price is currently scheduled to pitch Game 3 against the Yankees. With the injuries to ERod, Pom, and Wright, I really can't see the Sox scheduling Price to miss that series. Even without the injuries, I think it would be a bad idea to skip Price's turn against the Yankees anyway. For one, I think it sends the wrong message to Price. For two, the optics all around would be bad. For three, we need Price to be good in high stakes games. The only way to do that is to throw him right back out there.
  8. According to both Baseball Prospectus and Fangraphs, the Yankees have the 2nd easiest second half schedule, behind only the Guardians. The Sox are roughly middle of the pack in terms of remaining schedule.
  9. LOL Post of the day Oldtimer.
  10. He does seem to be unduly criticized.
  11. Boone is obviously afraid of the Sox, as he should be.
  12. #Letthestatgeeksvote I can understand the love for Trout, but I don't understand such a wide difference between the votes for him and Mookie. I would like to give a shout out to Trout for the way he has handled Manfred's comments about not making himself more marketable, and also for placing more importance on playing baseball over marketing himself. Nicely done.
  13. The funny thing is, we have a Yankees poster here with the username "Meh". If I were him, I'd be afraid. Very afraid.
  14. If/when Pedroia is ready to retire as a player, making him a coach with the same pay is a great idea. I get the impression that he is not ready to do so yet.
  15. For all of my eye test loving peeps, here is some analytical support for you regarding JD's defense. Enjoy. JD Might Not Be As Bad Defensively As Kimmi Thought He Was
  16. Yup. It would have been terrible had he gone to the Yankees.
  17. Exactly. He stated very early that he wanted to see more aggressiveness. I don't remember the exact numbers now, but it was amazing how many middle-middle pitches our hitters took, and if I recall correctly, Mookie and Xander were at or near the top of the chart. It's a completely different story this year.
  18. I am very glad that the Machado sweepstakes are over, and I'm very glad that he went to the Dodgers. I also have to think that the Dodgers feel that they will be able to lock Machado up long term.
  19. In all honesty, I typed this reply with 'meh' before I read Soxhop's rant. That said, if the urge hits me to use the word 'meh' in a reply, which I don't do often so it's kind of ironic that I did so here, I will use the word 'meh' in a reply. Soxhop, I give you permission, in advance, to go off on me.
  20. I agree that it usually makes more sense to wait until midseason to see how players are performing and to see exactly what our needs are when you're talking about big league contracts. That said, adding the dumpster dive depth type pitchers on minor league contracts really doesn't hurt anything. They may amount to nothing, but they might actually end up being able to contribute.
  21. Nicely done. I would really like to give a shout out to Barnes, who I think it doing much better than some give him credit for. In terms of WAR, Barnes is on par with Kimbrel.
  22. I get that a rental won't affect the coming years, but I would also hope that if the FO does choose to go over, it wouldn't be for a rental. Meh, I just think it would be a bad decision all around.
  23. Personally, I think that people who were not necessarily the best players can be great coaches/managers. Aside from that, I'm not talking about Cora fixing or tweaking the mechanics of any of the batters, but rather changing their approach at the plate.
