I get the impression that Cora has been able to get the players to buy into what he is selling. That's very important, IMO. He has convinced the hitters to take a more aggressive approach. He has convinced Bogaerts to start pulling the ball more rather than trying to slap the ball the other way like he was doing last year. Also, it's been noted by many players that the feeling in the clubhouse is different this season. That's a direct reflection on Cora.

Maybe Dombrowski adds a couple of solid relievers and we go with a BP day, like the Rays. Sale, Price, and Porcello are usually pretty good at going deep into games. If Johnson can hold down the #4 spot, then Pom on a short leash, followed by the BP could be an option for the #5 spot.

Before the 2nd wildcard was added to the playoffs, I would have said health is definitely more important than winning the division. With the one game playoff for the wildcard teams, I think chasing the division is more important.

Has the tailspin been remarkable, or expected? I am neither pulling for nor against your Mariners. I have no dog in that fight. I am hoping for a good battle between the Ms and the As (who are also playing above their Pythagorean W-L record). Best wishes to you also for the remainder of the season.

Cora's influence has more to do with the improvement of Betts and Beni than JD does.

Don't look now, but what was once a comfortable 7.5 game lead for the 2nd wildcard slot is now down to 3 games. Also, the Mariners are an astounding 19 games over .500 with a -2 run differential. The Astros should be 22 games up on the Mariners. Instead, they are only up by 5. What's the difference, you ask? The Astros, arguably the best team in baseball, are 14-16 in one run games. The Mariners are 26-12 in one run games. I might also point out that the Astros, arguably the best team in baseball, are 23-4 in blowout games, while the Mariners are 10-13 in those games. Randomness at its finest.

Perhaps some of you were right all along. I 100% agree that handling the clubhouse is the most important job of the manager.

I get that, and it's a valid point. Sometimes, a player will choose to stay with a team longer than his opt out date for one reason or another. It's also possible that if we had one of those guys in AAA and they were pitching well, we would have found a way to call them up. The other thing is, you never know when you will catch lightning in a bottle.

Yes, I have heard that. He also said that none of our players would require surgery after last season. As I said, I wasn't buying it before. With the need for a starting pitcher, I think it just might happen now. Personally, I wouldn't do it. Doing so still wouldn't guarantee a ring, and it would further harm our long term outlook.

Of course it ended up being a poor decision. Two reasons why I can be on board with the decision, both dealing with long term effects: 1. Saving the BP some innings. (Yes, I know that he ended up having to go to the pen anyway). 2. Showing a vote of confidence in Porcello to work his way through it. -
Before the season started, I posted that it's too bad that we wouldn't have the chance to see what this offense would do this season without JD. Note: I am not saying that's it's too bad that we signed JD. They were going to improve either way. Of course our offense, as a whole, would not be as good without JD as they are with him, but the other guys in the lineup would have seen marked improvements even if JD had not been signed.

I really had no issue with Farrell last year and didn't think that he was a problem. However, many comments were made in ST and early this season about how guys were not having fun last year and similar types of things. Perhaps Farrell's management was a bigger issue than I realized.

Unless the Sox are going over the luxury tax limit, a pure salary dump isn't going to do us any good either. Until the ERod injury, I was sure the Sox would not go over the limit. With our need for a starting pitcher, they just might do it.

LOL I am not trying to poke fun at Mal, but this had me giggling pretty hard. We all make typos. Some of them end up being pretty funny. I have the utmost respect for Mal and for Oldtimer and very much value their contributions here. Speaking of Mookie, I didn't get a chance to comment on his epic at bat a few days ago. That's the kind of baseball moment you live for.

Just going by the trade rumors I've heard. Maybe they're looking for more experience on the team? Maybe they're going to trade Andujar for a pitcher?

^^This. ERod is going to be out for a while. Wright is nowhere near close to returning. Who knows what we'll get from Pom when he returns? Johnson is now our #4 starter, with a big ??? on who #5 is. We need a starter.

There is no reason whatsoever for the Sox to be in on Moose. Unless they are trying to drive up the price for the Yankees. The priority is now a starting pitcher.
