  1. The Sox have 45 OOBs, most in the majors. Those are broken down by outs at particular bases as follows: 1st base - 4 (league average) 2nd base - 15 (2nd most in the majors) 3rd base - 9 (5th most in the majors) Home - 17 (2nd most in the majors) By comparison, the Sox had 29 OOBs at home plate last year. There's not that much of a difference between last year and this.
  2. Believe it or not, Hanley is only charged with one OOB according to BR. Our team leader is Nunez with 7. Bogaerts and Devers each have 5. Beni, Betts, Bradley, and Vazquez each have 4. JD and Moreland have 3 each, and Sandy has 2.
  3. When it comes to relievers, it's definitely a buyer's market. There is no shortage of available relief pitching before the deadline.
  4. It's hard for me to say because I can't remember all of the OOBs that were made this year. Just going off my general feeling/impression, I would put it at less than 10%. I could even make the argument that even the ones that seem clearly boneheaded could be attributed to over aggressiveness or trying too hard.
  5. anthony fenech ‏Verified account @anthonyfenech 6h6 hours ago Mike Fiers did not mince words after the game: He thinks J.D. Martinez was scared to face him today. “He ducked me today,” Fiers said. “He had been talking about that all year and I think he told (Red Sox manager Alex) Cora to get a day off against me. Gotta love a guy with a sense of humor.
  6. The Sox now officially have Porcello listed as Monday's starter and Pom listed as Tuesday's starter. ERod remains hopeful that he will return soon. Wright is nowhere close to returning.
  7. You are all right in my book Harmony.
  8. I think the majority of the 'bonehead plays', like being picked off a base, stem from the guys trying to be aggressive. The more aggressive a team is with base running, the more likely they probably are to get thrown out on the bases.
  9. LOL The color guy is Kirk Gibson. Perfect description!
  10. My money is on Sale and the Sox offense today. Win today, win another series on the road. Get it done boys!
  11. Johnson did his job, so that's a positive to take away from last night's game. The offense has been frustrating the last 2 games, starting with Mookie. That said, they did have something like 18 men left on base over the two games which, as frustrating as it may be, at least they're getting the base runners.
  12. Haha. I noticed the same thing. Gibson is one of the most monotone analysts I have ever heard.
  13. If the Sox won that game because they were more determined or more mentally tough, then why is it that they were only able to score 1 run off of a far inferior team?
  14. Good for you Hitch!
  15. My point of view in games like this is that it boils down to randomness or luck more than anything else.
  16. As someone who has had a firearm brandished on me while on the interstate (apparently, for driving too slow), I don't even think about 'challenging' or engaging other drivers. Not that I would anyway. If someone wants to cut in front of me or whatever, so be it. Of course, I am also not testosterone driven.
  17. Very solid post Emp. I would also like to point out that there were many fans calling for the trades of Betts, Bogaerts, or JBJ back in the day. Just like Dombrowski had the intuition not to trade Devers or Beni, Ben had the intuition not to trade any of the Bs.
  18. With Swihart being needed as our back up catcher, the Sox will not play Swihart at other positions unless absolutely necessary. Besides, Devers is being activated from the DL tomorrow.
  19. I just think the OOBs are a product of the team's aggressive base running style. The team is encouraged to be aggressive on the base paths, to take the extra base when you can. With that type of philosophy, you are going to run into more outs.
  20. Good stuff Mal. Keep your stories coming.
  21. I think the ability to give a team innings is often underrated or overlooked. It's the same deal with Porcello. Often times, even when those guys are struggling, they will give you 6+ innings.
  22. It's interesting because the Sox have said that Pom will be reinstated and get the start on Tuesday, but Monday's starter is still being listed as 'TBA'. I am guessing Porcello gets the start on Monday. I haven't heard anything about him being injured.
  23. It was nice to see Price pitch a shutout. Exactly what he and the team needed. That was the longest 1-0 game I think I've ever seen. Way too tense for me. LOL With all of the ugliness in that game, I can't believe the Tigers weren't able to score a run.
  24. The Sox have done pretty well in terms of stolen bases, 1st in MLB at +7.1 runs. The problem has been with other base running situations, like trying to stretch a single into a double. They are the 3rd worst team in baseball in those situations at -6.8 runs. They are also the 4th worst team in terms of avoiding GIDPs at -2.7 runs. What the Sox have gained in stolen bases has been cancelled out by their other OOBs.
