  1. anthony fenech ‏Verified account @anthonyfenech 6h6 hours ago Mike Fiers did not mince words after the game: He thinks J.D. Martinez was scared to face him today. “He ducked me today,” Fiers said. “He had been talking about that all year and I think he told (Red Sox manager Alex) Cora to get a day off against me. Gotta love a guy with a sense of humor.
  2. The Sox now officially have Porcello listed as Monday's starter and Pom listed as Tuesday's starter. ERod remains hopeful that he will return soon. Wright is nowhere close to returning.
  3. You are all right in my book Harmony.
  4. I think the majority of the 'bonehead plays', like being picked off a base, stem from the guys trying to be aggressive. The more aggressive a team is with base running, the more likely they probably are to get thrown out on the bases.
  5. LOL The color guy is Kirk Gibson. Perfect description!
  6. My money is on Sale and the Sox offense today. Win today, win another series on the road. Get it done boys!
  7. Johnson did his job, so that's a positive to take away from last night's game. The offense has been frustrating the last 2 games, starting with Mookie. That said, they did have something like 18 men left on base over the two games which, as frustrating as it may be, at least they're getting the base runners.
  8. Haha. I noticed the same thing. Gibson is one of the most monotone analysts I have ever heard.
  9. If the Sox won that game because they were more determined or more mentally tough, then why is it that they were only able to score 1 run off of a far inferior team?
  10. Good for you Hitch!
  11. My point of view in games like this is that it boils down to randomness or luck more than anything else.
  12. As someone who has had a firearm brandished on me while on the interstate (apparently, for driving too slow), I don't even think about 'challenging' or engaging other drivers. Not that I would anyway. If someone wants to cut in front of me or whatever, so be it. Of course, I am also not testosterone driven.
  13. Very solid post Emp. I would also like to point out that there were many fans calling for the trades of Betts, Bogaerts, or JBJ back in the day. Just like Dombrowski had the intuition not to trade Devers or Beni, Ben had the intuition not to trade any of the Bs.
  14. With Swihart being needed as our back up catcher, the Sox will not play Swihart at other positions unless absolutely necessary. Besides, Devers is being activated from the DL tomorrow.
  15. I just think the OOBs are a product of the team's aggressive base running style. The team is encouraged to be aggressive on the base paths, to take the extra base when you can. With that type of philosophy, you are going to run into more outs.
  16. Good stuff Mal. Keep your stories coming.
  17. I think the ability to give a team innings is often underrated or overlooked. It's the same deal with Porcello. Often times, even when those guys are struggling, they will give you 6+ innings.
  18. It's interesting because the Sox have said that Pom will be reinstated and get the start on Tuesday, but Monday's starter is still being listed as 'TBA'. I am guessing Porcello gets the start on Monday. I haven't heard anything about him being injured.
  19. It was nice to see Price pitch a shutout. Exactly what he and the team needed. That was the longest 1-0 game I think I've ever seen. Way too tense for me. LOL With all of the ugliness in that game, I can't believe the Tigers weren't able to score a run.
  20. The Sox have done pretty well in terms of stolen bases, 1st in MLB at +7.1 runs. The problem has been with other base running situations, like trying to stretch a single into a double. They are the 3rd worst team in baseball in those situations at -6.8 runs. They are also the 4th worst team in terms of avoiding GIDPs at -2.7 runs. What the Sox have gained in stolen bases has been cancelled out by their other OOBs.
  21. I would think that the starters would be on a shorter leash for this upcoming series, as we are nearing crunch time. That said, I still think that it's a little too early in the season to be managing in a 'win at any cost' mode. When we play the Yankees for two series in September, different story. I am not saying Cora should blow off any game, and I don't think he will. But he also should not do something like pitch Kimbrel for 4 games in a row.
  22. No one is running away with the division. That said, I'd rather be in the position that we are in than in the Yankees' position.
  23. Mal, you are awesome. Simply awesome. Thank you for your service to our wonderful country and thank you for your awesome stories.
  24. I agree with you. I think Price has pitched better, on the whole, than he is given credit for. I think he gets a lot of criticism because he hasn't pitched up to the fans' expectations of being an ace. The team is 13-6 in his starts, a .684 win %, which is pretty darn good.
  25. Amen to that.
