  1. If he can go at least 5 innings and keep the team in the game, I will deem this start a success. I think he can do better, but being his first start back, I really don't have high expectations.
  2. I read something this morning where Cora said that JD and Betts both said that they think they're in a slump, and Cora just laughed. It goes to show you how good those two are when they go 3 or 4 games without several big hits and everyone, myself included, thinks they're slumping.
  3. Agreed. I would take a well pitched and well defended pitcher's duel over a slugfest any day.
  4. Agreed. I read this morning that Vazquez is not expected back until September, which answers the roster decision questions.
  5. From May 6, when Leon started improving with the bat, until July 7, the last game before Vaz went on the DL, Leon's slash line was .322/.362/.529/.890. Granted, that was with an unsustainable .414 BABIP. Since Vaz went on the DL, which is July 8, to the present, Leon's slash line is .118/.211/.147/.358. Granted, that is also with an unsustainable .182 BABIP, and both are small sample sizes. The difference in performance might not have anything to do with Leon catching more games so far (he caught 5 days in a row and 7 out of 8 days), but as the season and postseason wear on, it's bound to have an impact.
  6. Excellent play. It doesn't get the attention of a JBJ catch, but it was a very heads up and well executed play.
  7. Not only did Sanchez not hustle running to first base in the 9th inning, he also did not hustle going after the passed ball in the first inning, which allowed the Rays to score a run from 2nd base. If there is anything that warrants a benching, it's that. I just knew the Rays were going to blow that game. LOL
  8. Small sample, but Leon's offense has really struggled since he started catching the majority of games. Not that he was hitting that great to start with, but it seemed like he was on a better roll, until Vazquez got injured. What I like about Vaz and Leon is how well they seem to complement each other as a tandem, with neither one really being a 'backup'.
  9. For the remainder of this season? I can't see it. Cora and Dombrowski seem to be really high on the work that Vaz and Leon do behind the plate. I could see that for next year, IF Swihart shows that he is better overall than one of the others.
  10. If Vazquez returns before the rosters expand, the Sox will find a way to make it work. Maybe Phillips isn't called up before September? Maybe someone goes on the phantom DL?
  11. Definitely more likely than he was about 2 weeks ago. With Vazquez' injury and uncertainty, I think Swihart has to stay.
  12. No, Sale was not in the right there. Come on.
  13. Shaw was absolutely horrible the second half (longer, actually) of his last season with us. I was not sad to see him go. That said, it appears the Sox gave up on him too early, which does make the trade sting. I still hold out hope for Thornburg though.
  14. My DVR has been set up for this since Saturday! But I am recording the rebroadcast from 3:00 - 4:00 a.m. so it doesn't interfere with my baseball games. And The Bachelorette
  15. Swihart has held his own behind the plate. He has not shown me anything that screams "get him out of there"! Good for him.
  16. I have no doubt that Cashman will make a big trade before the deadline. The Yankees need for a starting pitcher is greater than any needs the Sox have. Also, as a manager, Boone is no Cora.
  17. If the Sox have indeed fixed a mechanical flaw with Thornburg, that could be a huge boost to our pen. Either way, Dave needs to get us a solid, late inning reliever.
  18. ^^This. Kelly didn't help himself out after that, but that error might have changed the entire complexion of the inning.
  19. And he saved Devers two errors today.
  20. That's kind of insane, isn't it? At any rate, I'll take it.
  21. I was not aware of that. My apologies to Mr. Gibson for my previous comments.
  22. The OOBs are coming from BR. Here's the link, by team first, then by individual players: https://www.baseball-reference.com/leagues/MLB/2018-baserunning-batting.shtml
  23. I can see why you would consider those boneheaded. I think there's a fine line (and usually hard to distinguish) between stupid and overly aggressive. It seems to me that while we have one of the more aggressive base running teams, we are not necessarily being smart with our aggressiveness.
  24. Hanley being DFA'd has not hurt the team at all. Moreland has held his own and Pearce has been a good pickup. I still do not disagree with the decision to DFA him so early in the season, but this is why Dombrowski is the GM and I am not.
